No way can they enforce that! They would have to lock up hundreds and hundreds of people a day for god sake

Cant think of any other holiday destination that has this law!

Isn't there similar bans in Barcelona & Monte Carlo with swimwear about town?

Barcelona bans bikinis on its streets 31/5/11

Tourists who attempt to stroll bare-chested or in swimwear through the streets of Barcelona will be ordered to cover up or face fines of up to £260 under a ban that came into force this week

New Broom
On her first day in office the new lady mayor, Pepita Gutiérrez, announced that she was preparing drastic measures to crack down on the amount of prostitution, unlicensed sellers and “illegal PRs” who hand out tickets for the various clubs and discotheques, and she has remained true to her word. In just over a week the Local Police have acted in 300 separate cases where sex was on offer on the streets, 50 in the case of publicity being handed out in unlawful places, and almost 100 against the “looky-looky” men. Amazingly in that week more incidences occurred with prostitutes than in the whole of 2009, 15, and the first seven months of 2010, which was 32.

During the election campaign, Gutiérrez received repeated complaints from the towns-people about these three factors, and she has appointed Xicu Cardona to collaborate with the police force and he went as far as to join a patrol in order to better understand the problems that the law-enforcers have to face on a daily basis. Cardona explained that these “ladies of the night” do offer sexual favours, but in many cases it is just a cover-up to steal holidaymakers belongings, as while one is keeping the victim occupied, others take the opportunity to remove wallets and money, especially in the early hours of the morning when the tourists had had “one too many”. Unless robbery can be proved or the girls are in the country illegally, there is nothing the police can charge them with, although they are forced to spend the evening in jail and lose a night's earnings. The idea is to make them fed up so they soon move on to other areas when they realize that the police officers are going to make their lives impossible. They are also patrolling in different districts of the town, as once the word gets round they then move elsewhere.

Car Parks
The new car park which has been provided on the site of the old ‘Idea' Discotheque was officially inaugurated last week. Adequate lighting, which will illuminate the area throughout the night, is being installed at the moment. The land which was also conceded by the heirs of Xavier Cabau near the out-patients clinic in Calle Londres has also been opened for cars to park gratis. A total of 1,000 spaces are now available to park in the town free of charge and there are 500 bays in ‘blue' zones and 300 in the underground facility in Plaza d'España. In Ses Païsses work is currently being carried out to provide 250 new parking spaces in an area which has more than 5,000 inhabitants.

The demolition of the ‘Idea' structure was much more complicated than originally envisioned, as it was supposed that by removing most of the concrete pillars it would fall down on its own, but it had been so well constructed that eventually two enormous cranes had to be employed to support the superstructure while welding torches were used to dismantle each piece.

I agree, the looky looky men can be a nuisance, I know like everyone else theyre trying to earn a living, but just wish when you say no, they would go away, but a few of them wont take no for an answer

The girls who stop you near Linekar's (last year anyway) and try put beads on your wrist are bad aswell, if you dont let them do it they start acting like youve been racist to them!

West End
Lidia Prats, The Environment Councillor, invited the press to accompany her on a visit to the Sant Agnès Street in the heart of the West End early one morning last week. She was meeting representatives of the company which holds the concession for cleaning the borough, FCC, to see for herself the state of one of the main streets at the end of a typical night of partying in the town. Added to the 64 FCC employees in San Antonio, a further 34 people have been contracted by the Town Hall as part of the Govern's plan to take people from the dole queues to train in a different field.
Lidia and her band of followers arrived at 7.00 a.m. to find the roads being cleaned (there is only one hour – between 5.00 a.m. and 6.00 a.m. – out of the day's 24 hours when there are no cleaners on the streets), removing hundreds of plastic bottles and glasses and numerous residues of fast-food meals which have been consumed ‘on the hoof' and discarded when they have been finished with, in addition to piles of vomit. Most of the rubbish on the streets comes from the fast-food outlets, which is the reason why the mess must be cleaned as soon as possible. In less than half an hour there was no evidence of any rubbish and the colour of the paving stones could be seen, although an unpleasant aroma hung in the air, but soon it was the club and bar employees who began to haul large bags of refuse to the pavement to provide more work for the cleaners.
The party passed one man who was cleaning the pavement in front of his bar who commented “we have to turn a blind eye – we make our money from these holidaymakers”, but did admit that more than once he had turned his hosepipe onto revellers who were answering the ‘call of nature' nearby.
