That is great news! That means you will no longer be harrassed by British teens trying to drag you into a bar againts your free will? They should have done this years ago. Btw does that inclue flyer distributing too? My friend was planning to go there to do that.

Bar Publicity

At a recent council meeting in San Antonio, it was agreed to curtail the practice of PRs who, in return for a commission, encourage potential customers to visit certain bars and discothèques. The Councillor for Tourism, Josep Ramon Serra Pilot, stated that the handing out of tickets in the streets and the display of posters had largely been controlled, so the problem of the PRs now needed to be tackled.

The new legislation will allow the municipal authority to close bars breaking the rules for up to ten days, with immediate effect.

Last year a total of 149 official complaints about PRs were lodged, whereas there were just 19 complaints about ticket sellers and only one for the posting of flyers.

So is it in effect this Summer? Not quite sure if I understood it right that handing out flyers is still allowed?

"...San Antonio Beaches
A word of WARNING TO DOG OWNERS using the San Antonio Promenade!

The local police are becoming very hot on fining people
letting their dogs run on the beach.
They do not wait for dogs to do "their business" before talking to owners,
but are handing out on-the-spot fines.

For several years there have been "No Dogs" signs on the beach,
but they have basically turned a blind eye,
but not anymore!

Pub Crawls

The San Antonio Residents Association and the opposition PSOE political party
expressed their concern about the decision made by the Town Hall
not to ban pub crawls, but to “regulate” them.

This practice, according to the spokesperson, was made illegal in a by-law in 2006
covering “all-inclusive” deals, which “prohibits the practice of offering customers
as much as they can drink during a certain amount of time and at a specific price”.

The Residents Association is disgusted by the way that the “pub crawlers”
are encouraged to “shout, sing and commit scandalous behaviour
while travelling from one bar to another” and the fact it has not been consulted
by the Town Hall, as they are aware of their animosity.

The new “regulations” permit a group of no more than 20 party-goers,
visiting no more than two bars per night.
This agreement has been made with the tour operators
and the businesses in the Town.

Public Relations

A group of twenty-four establishments in the West End of San Antonio have signed an official complaint concerning the illegal employment of “public relations” people. Under new laws, each business is only allowed to employ one person for every seven workers who pay National Insurance contributions, to PR for them, and to pay a licence fee of €1,250. They are also only allowed to hand out flyers and talk to passers-by immediately in front of the business they represent. Disobedience of these laws can mean closure for the offender, if there have been three official complaints made to the Local Police.

According to a representative of the twenty-four, “this system works well as long as everyone adheres to it, but there are currently many abuses”. They hope that the authorities will be strong with offenders, and commented “that the only way to deal with weeds is to pull them up by their roots”.
