 the owners of idea will knock down the structure and let the land be used during five years as a parking
the demolition is imminent, the council assures, although the negotiations continue.

as one of the readers of DDI says, you can tell the elections are coming up..... i'll believe it when i see it ! !

btw, in case you didn't know it..... the so-called "bar m parking" is actually owned by the same people (cabau family) who let the ayuntamiento use it as a public parking

I noticed last year there was a man in a hi-vis vest charging for parking at the "Bar M parking" in the evenings.

Any idea whether this is legitimate or just a chancer?

The Ibiza Sun:

Ses Varidades

Part of the large area of land behind the “sunset strip” has been transformed into a leisure area for the inhabitants of the town. Different sections include playgrounds for the youngest members of the family, others for slightly older children and an exercise area equipped with keep-fit apparatus. Many shrubs and trees have been planted, including olive and cypress, lavender and aloe vera, and other flowering plants. The garden area took up a fair proportion of the €275,000 budget, which had a drip watering system incorporated.

It will be very strange not to see Idea's skeleton when I arrive in July, there again it will be strange to see something other than wasteground and dog poo on the ground between Mambo and Kanya.

Not a Bad Idea

Last Wednesday the Town Hall finally ordered the demolition of the structure of the Idea discotheque near the entrance to the town to begin. The roadway was cordoned off to allow access for the heavy machinery to carry out the work.

The building belongs to the heirs of Xavier Cabau and has been the subject of much discussion for many years. The family wanted to ensure that they will be allowed planning permission if they removed the eyesore, but the Town Hall was tied by local by-laws. An agreement has now been reached allowing the demolition work to go ahead. It was in 1987 that the metal structure was erected, when open-air discotheques were banned because of noise pollution, just one of the problems which eventually forced the project to be abandoned.

The owners have ceded the land to the Town Hall for ten years, to be used as parking for 150 vehicles. This ten year agreement is renewable, but the owners would have to repay a proportion of the demolition costs, said to be in the region of €40,000, which is now being funded by the Town Hall, if they terminate the agreement. This would be on a sliding scale, depending on the amount of years which had already passed. The same proprietor has agreed for a further plot of land, again measuring 2,500 square metres, which is situated in Calle Londres, very close to the new health centre, to be used for parking. In this case the agreement will only be for a year at a time, with the proprietors only liable to give one month's notice if they require the land for other purposes. The two new car parks will not be paved but be constructed with compacted earth and should be completed by the end of this month, giving free parking for an additional 300 cars near the entrance to the town.
The Mayor of San Antonio, José Sala, who has just over a month to run on his term of office, expressed his pleasure that one of the few remaining electoral pledges made in 2007 will now be completed. As he said at the time “we will be able to recover the aesthetic line just in front of the sea”.

From this weeks Ibiza Sun, I think this is a bit much tbh:

The West End
A suggestion has been made that young tourists arriving in the town should be handed a pamphlet to advise them that there are protocols and forms of behaviour which should be adhered to and it is not a question of “anything goes”. Egged on by some unscrupulous tour operators and the night spots which are keen to make money, the idea is that youngsters should be made aware of the fact that there are many other holidaymakers and locals who find their behaviour unacceptable.

Over the years, with stricter laws in place and more policing, the West End has improved considerably, and the number of street brawls has decreased notably. Back in November the Neighbourhood Association handed in a petition with 2,500 signatures to the Town Hall, demanding that the bylaws are followed rigidly. They are worried that the average young tourist, a large proportion of them British, is misled into thinking that loutish behaviour is permissible. The Hoteliers Federation sees the idea as positive, but goes further, in that the problem needs to be tackled at source, with more uniformed officers on the streets at night to lend an air of authority, and stricter sanctions imposed on miscreants.

Court Case
The Public Prosecutor is asking for a possible five year prison sentence for the proprietor of two “Sunset Strip” bars, Café Mambo and Savannah for committing environmental crimes. These noise pollution crimes date back to between 2003 and 2008, during the five months between June and October. He is accused of ignoring all instructions given by the San Antonio Town Hall and “disobeying all orders by the authorities”, and playing very loud music on the terraces of the two bars without valid permits. Two families living in the vicinity with small children claim that they have suffered from insomnia, nervousness and stress, and have lodged official complaints on an almost daily basis. The Prosecutor is seeking €10,000 compensation for each of the children affected.

the sentence condemns the owner to two years in prison, avoidable by paying 126.000€

A criminal conviction and jail sentence for noise pollution and nothing for a Boat Captain who left a boy to die in the sea.

Now that's Justice...........

Excess Noise
For the first time in Ibiza's history, a judge has imposed a criminal conviction for an environmental infraction involving the level of music which was being played in two music bars in San Antonio between 2003 and 2008. Café Mambo and Café Savannah, on the sunset strip, consistently defied orders to lower music levels in the open air, and the administrator has now been sentenced to two years imprisonment, which he can avoid by paying a fine of €126,000 and he has also been disqualified for 18 months, although the two offending bars may remain open. There were several families living close by which continually made official complaints to the Town Hall as they maintained that their lives had become an absolute misery during the summer months. However, they did not want to press charges and it is thought that they have possibly sold their properties to the proprietor of the clubs, and no new complaints have been made since 2008, either to the Town Hall or to the police.
