The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

There are a lot of artists, especially those playing parties in Ibiza that the lines are very blurred...What is Sven Vath? What is Dixon? I personally rather lump it all into a techno party then start calling things tech house, deep house, deep tech, yada yada yada.

And what about when Rodhad and Klock drop legit classic house tracks, vocals and all?
Even Rodhads RA blurb "Rødhåd has been socialized by Berlin's looptechno nights and always finds the perfect balance of timeless techno to lift the dancefloor higher and higher. His style is always deep, powerful and melancholic - from dub to techno and back to house."

I know the response is the late but as you suggested i used extremes in my examples like Sanchez and Rodhad, I would say that guys like Sven and Dixon really really blue the lines. Sven sometimes plays straight techno settles with little let up and sometimes plays super groovy sets, while Dixon far less "techno" but of course still depends on the night/setting. While i totally get your point about Rodhad and Klock dropping classic house tracks and they definitely do at times, its still far and few between for what you normally get from them so i would never call anything they do house with the exception of maybe one or two tracks they'd play in a night that can be categorized that way. I've seen Rodhad quite a few times and last summer's Bunker/Unter party in Brooklyn was probably one of the best of the whole year for me, 8 hour Rodhad set and there was definitely no house tracks to be found in that one.

Space made Cox, not Cox Space.
Amnesia made Väth, or Sankeys made Solomun and there are more.

 hahaha
That may be true for Ibiza, and Ibiza only. Contrary to the view of many here Ibiza is not the world and also not the whole world of electronic music.

It's ridiculous to say that without amnesia sven väth wouldn't be the popular and well paid DJ that he is (or Carl Cox for that matter).

right, back to hï.

martin garrix is doing TWO residencies

thursdays at ushuaïa
mondays at hï

discuss....

What The F**K! Is the kid that good? Didn't think he filled Ushuaia the last few seasons did he?

SO....... Is Guetta no more at Ushuaia? Or moving from a Monday? [EDIT: Sorry just saw you said Garrix at Hi on a Monday]

There is no way Pacha would let him do Hi?

garrix does monday nights at hi so guetta can still do monday evening at ushuaïa (and style wise it's a good transition)

but yeah, does he fill two venues every week?

it makes sense to have him after guetta at hi but then why add him on a Thursday at Ushuaia when he's got competition from craig david at IR during the day and the guetta in pacha.

If people wanted to see him and guetta they would go on Monday surely where it makes sense to follow on the party at hi and not trapse around to pacha and pay extra money.

yeah agree. I think they will just have to master getting people to go across the road. But I am guessing the Guetta sort may not feel the need to flock somewhere post midnight in the same way that Ants people will flock to Black Coffee etc.

I don't mean to sound a d**k but what is the age range of the Guetta crowd at Ushuaia? I imagine the 'pit' being mainly a 17-25, alcohol drinking crowd who will go out 1 or 2 times during the week in Ibiza, and then the VIP being groups of men 30+ trying to get girls under 25...

I done Guetta at Ushuaia and it was a young crowd

A lot goes into the production for Guetta. Fireworks, confetti, Hats and sticks given out, People floating about above the crowed

Typical big room carry on of EDM

lot of cheering and little dancing

Regarding guetta I think time of year also affects crowd demographic. Done the opening in June/July and it's a young crowd. When went to it in closings it seemed to have more of a mix of old people.

Regarding Martin garrix, is he gonna just play same stuff at both venues or gonna mix it up a bit? If it's the same stuff not entirely sure it will work, even if there are "low ceilings" in one venue.

Guess time will tell. I'd prefer ferry Corsten at Hi, but that me

Same Stuff? Does he has a Techno Alter Ego?

Well dunno but could be a reason/excuse to try something different, not necessarily techno, but something less pop edm as I'd call it. Maybe some 70s disco? :D

Edit: iirc he's also a producer now? So perhaps like "guetta and friends" night where he promotes new djs/artists and so a different sound? I dunno, guess only the organisers do know. His +Multiply night when saw it at ushuaia was pretty good tbh, wasn't just playing animals or calvin harris mixes lol.

Thursday at Hi? Without anybody giving anything away..... ;) Could it be EDM or a man who had a night at a nearby club moving to Hi?
