The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

the closes we get to this here are villa afters ;) maybe not THAT obscure and dirty, but hey - it's ibiza, a sunny island in the med! :)

^exactly this. I come from Brooklyn where there are more sketchy "underground" after hours spots then there are legit parties most of the time. If I wanted that and only that then I would stay home or like others said visit Berlin (which I do and love). But it's a beautiful island with monster clubs and massive sound. Would love more off beat after parties/villa parties but I am still going to Cocoon or Solomun +1 in the end.

Black Coffee is a very smart booking for Hi on Saturdays...his sounds is more "Old school" so you can grab the older house crowd and where are the young underground crowd going on a saturday? El Row? Ants? Zoo Project? They may as well give a chance to the new venue for an artist who has been a resident at DC10 the last 2 years and surging.

I think the only time I have gone out on a Saturday was for free at Space bc Michael Mayer and Miss Kitten were playing the terrace for Kehakuma/El Row and we had comps

Agreed tho, Black Coffee is a little cheesy for my taste but can be fun.

when I first went to Space I was appalled that they were selling merchandise inside. my inner hippy just melted. so I came on here and ranted about it and was made to feel like I'd blasphemed (thou must never slag off Space). I know fabric had a cd dispenser but does berghain have a shop inside? can anyone confirm?
Berghain has a shop in the club and an online store.

Hopefully a bit of DJ Sneak in the mix too? I think he's played with Black Coffee a few times and is an Ants regular. I love a dirty old set from the second fattest DJ in the business.

I really like the sound of Black Coffe although I never same him live. Nevertheless I don't think that he's very famous in Europe and pulls a lot of people because of his name. I saw tickets start at 45€? I know that Ibiza's wired differently, but I cannot vision it yet...

99% of house is techno and 99% of techno is house

Im not one to start the war of words, but that couldnt be further from true. You couldn't possibly compare the likes of say Roger Sanchez or like a Pete tong to what Rodhad, Ben Klock, or you're from NY, what you would hear at a Bunker party (you couldn't possibly call that house). I did get your point of just umbrella'ing it, but its not really a good fit.

Separately, I dont follow Black Coffee much, but i did see him in 2015 at the Brooklyn edition of Time Warp and it was a pretty proper techno set. Was the only time I've seen him live, so I'm a little confused by the cheese comments but my assumption is that set may have been the exception rather than the norm for him.

Black Coffee at BlkMarket was a total day time dance in a circle and sing-a-long party. Same vibe during his set I heard at DC10 a couple of years ago (I went to the main room for some TECHNO  ) . Time warp from what I remember had its techno moments but also had its fair share of classics. He remixed Alicia Keys and wants to produce hip hop. I like it and respect it but also understand the vibe people may get from that.

You picked out extremes like Roger Sanchez and the bunker as examples. Although I have seen house sets thrown down at the Bunker for sure when it was at Public Assembly. Josh Wink has played a bunch of times and his productions run the gamut but the focus is in acid house. And Prosumer is totally considered house by techno purists.

There are a lot of artists, especially those playing parties in Ibiza that the lines are very blurred...What is Sven Vath? What is Dixon? I personally rather lump it all into a techno party then start calling things tech house, deep house, deep tech, yada yada yada.

And what about when Rodhad and Klock drop legit classic house tracks, vocals and all?
Even Rodhads RA blurb "Rødhåd has been socialized by Berlin's looptechno nights and always finds the perfect balance of timeless techno to lift the dancefloor higher and higher. His style is always deep, powerful and melancholic - from dub to techno and back to house."

If we are having a convo about a specific track, party, artist...sure we can get into techno vs house. But for the sake of Ibiza parties and not calling it "underground" I say call it a techno party and leave Roger Sanchez and Pete out of that grouping.

Great music through out history, has generally come from a bored, aggressive, skint, pissed off youth with no future... So now should be a perfect time for them to wake from their slumber?

this 1000%, but I'm not holding my breath. The Corporations seem to have too firm a grip, and wherever a subversive sound or party crops up, it's either bought up or stamped down pronto. No time for a scene to develop into anything resembling a threat to the status quo. And sadly 'the kids' don't seem to have the substance to push against whatever The Corporation decide is good for them. Hi Ibiza is definitely part of the problem rather than the solution. I would love nothing more than to be proved wrong though...

Is it the clubs fault?
Because really I don't go to a club for the club. I go to a club to see a certain DJ....so the DJ is what makes a night popular rightt

Speaking about UK here, but lots of people used to go the same club each week regardless of who was on. They had the residents and trusted the programming to be right. A face to nod to became friendly faces that became great friends and that helped a great atmosphere/scene prevail

spot on. it was like this for me too.

the reason ibiza won't go back to basics though is that the careers of a vast army of marketeers, branding consultants, PRs and other similar parasites all depend on the cult of DJs to keep them in business. have you noticed how every DJ has their own logo now? Calling Chris Morris...

Doesn't have the history yet. But I think with the way Brixton is going, this is going to be a venue which is still around in a decade's time.
