The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Slightly off-topic, have you had the misfortune of visiting any of those speakeasy places? Like a joy-vacuum. Full of the most uninteresting, soulless people known to man.

Actually this is a good point. In my younger more wild days when Vauxhall was just a bus station with some semi legal gay clubs I thought I loved it until I looked around and realised that the people were just sad, soulless and the opposite of fun. And then I went to Ibiza and everyone was happy.....

How do you know when it's time to go home?
When you find yourself in Vauxhall on a Sunday morning trying to cling desperately onto the weekend as it starts disappearing over the horizon.

True fact.

I think people obsess far too much over what is "underground" (and what is "commercial").

If it makes your feet move, go with it.

Some ppl are soooo obsessed with being into the most minimal, cool-as-f*** obscure music, I really wonder if they actually enjoy it. Or whether they just want to feel exclusive.

you'll always get sheep who latch on to what they consider cool but true nerds invest their lives, incomes and nervous systems into finding perfect music/parties - the pursuit of this is as much a drug as any narcotic

I think sometimes you can try too hard looking for something. Fortune. Love... Parties...

pretty much everyone I know in music scene is obsessive. it's true, you can lose perspective especially if you're continually hoovering gear - but I've been exposed to so many amazing records and got to experience parties which blew my mind. I guess you can't help it if you're passionate. I certainly prefer that to people cynically rehashing tired music for the money. obviously it can get cliquey on a small scene - but one person's clique is another person's extended 'family'. I'm lucky to have friends in music everywhere - the one thing we all have in common is a genuine love for dance records going back to the 70s

Just don't go chasing the great white buffalo.

In search of perfection. Whether it be the perfect woman. Or the perfect party. You will end up disappointed because "perfection" doesn't exist.

You've gotta find the one/s which ticks most of your boxes and you accept the flaws that come with them.

Don't get too busy chasing perfection, that you forget to have a good time. Or it might turn out too late.

I think it was Gilles Peterson who called it 'searching for the perfect beat' and a very expensive hobby it is too

I think the snobbery isn't intended - what happens is that people, especially creative types are always restless, ambitious and get easily bored.

at the end of the 90s lots of people got really bored with big production house music and the whole electro/minimal thing emerged from that and now in a way I think a lot of forward thinking people in music are bored with what came out of that - dubstep fizzled out, EDM is a joke, whilst 'tech' got boring, so maybe there is a dearth of new ideas at the moment? certainly a lot of DJs I know slowed down to 122bpm, that whole 'chuggy' house thing I'm into is good for an older crowd but probably seems boring to kids with energy to spend. I dunno, am way off the pulse now... anyway rambling

ps George Michael was ace.

So Dubstep and EDM is sort of my Era growing up and I think Dubstep got popular due to Skrillex and then there was a few other tracks but as a whole it was a real 5 minute thing no?

EDM again became world known due to Guetta and then it took off

As everything it just takes one person or one tune to really kick it off and go viral

What I do miss though is those trance tunes such as Ayla or from the likes of Chicane. I can say they definitely don't make them like they used to

Under current username, have never been obnoxious to anyone. Provide examples or see me in court.

Back to the discussion. it's encouraging to see quite a few people on this thread are on the same wavelength. I reckon this debate transcends just a few moany old men on the internet. An awful lot of people in Spain are not happy with how things are going, how their identity/culture is getting smashed up by nu-tourism. Which is why we need to harness some positive energy from threads like this and lobby the authorities to protect old Spain, and that means its historic club and music scenes too.

I've missed what the previous usernames being used were, can someone enlighten me?

Bloody Hell! That is pretty good. Is he THE only resident?
Probably a good idea of HiUsh to focus on ONE artist as opposed to a super-market of DJs like Elrow etc

I have to say I am surprised that he has his own residency. I've listened to a few of his sets and have enjoyed them. I also caught him at Ushuaia closing and he was great. But personally I wouldn't have thought he would have the pull to have his own night.

I am also very interested to see he's guests, given that his main association in Ibiza lies with Circo Loco - although I am aware he has been a guest at a few other nights.
