Overcrowding

if there's ever a fire there will be trouble in ANY of the clubs. and quite possibly not only on the island, but in a lot of nightclubs worldwide. let's be realistic, that we have to be aware of I think.

Agree. It is a horrible thing, but one day this is sadly going to happen when you consider the volume of parties. How it hasn't up until now is a miracle. It doesn't even need a fire, just a "panic" (inflatable in Pacha catching fire for example, or smoke from a light / LED screens etc) and a stampede starts and things get very very messy! If people ever did die the likes of Pacha / Amnesia / Space who do preside over massive over-crowding on some nights will have an avalanche of every man and his dog in the media saying "I told you so". Doubt they would ever recover.

Anyway....Man this is all a bit depressing.....

There are quite a few fire exits in Amnesia, just take a few minutes to locate the closest to your spot. I personally always find good spots that isnt too crowded, and I have been to pretty much all of the busiest nights :)

The Kiss Nightclub fire in Brazil springs to mind, 242 died there - one entrance \ exit, no fire exits.

I find Cream to be a PITA as ive said on numerous occasions just because they have the DJ booth near the entrance / exit to the Main Room.
Like Ben i usually just go in the main room so this shouldnt be an issue but as ive gone VIP the last few times it can take an age to get through to the terrace to access the VIP (I dont think there is access from the main room?)

I think the scary thing is IF there was a fire (let's face it, people smoke all over Amnesia and there's decorations galore hanging all over the place etc etc) then there would almost certainly be large number of deaths as there doesn't seem to be a Health & Safety plan or a Plan B.... There really doesn't seem to be any evidence that if a stampede happened that people would get out safely... Quite the opposite!!

Also, just out of interest (as i've never been in July or August) but is it busier than the Closing??

EDIT: didn't see page 5 before i posted this....

The bottleneck between main room and Terrace in Amnesia is an accident waiting to happen especially since they put the bloody stage there. What genius thought of that ffs?!!?

What genius thought of that ffs?!!?

the stage is only on this side for a few parties. but I have to agree, it's not ideal. it's there simply because this end of the room there's more space to put the stage as there is no VIP overhead.

I've been to Amnesia Cream last year in mid August, for me heavily to packed. We've been also on the VIP balcony but where told, that we've to walk thru the dance floors to go home (we could not enjoy the party, so we wanted to leave). As it was that packed that night, my GF had panic / fear to walk thru the dance floor (it was like a wall of humans when you came down the stairs...). BUT: we got the permission to exit through the emergency exit, AND all the doors where open. So at least, they do not block / or close the doors.

But I will never again go for Amnesia, unfortunately as I would love to see Cocoon once...

you would have thought after that incident in the Madrid Arena (last year?) that they would at least try to change things

But in any case this happens in every club in every country. Try seeing Armin at Ministry or Villalobos or Sasha at Fabric. Maybe not to the same extent, but close enough

I'd love to know how Health & Safety go about determining the capacity for a venue!?!? Do they work it out on the basis of a certain amount of space between each person or something?!!? Or is it just a random guess?!?

I'd love to know how Health & Safety go about determining the capacity for a venue!?!? ...
are you dreaming ?
they obviously give a F !
... bet these useless greedy bastids go through backdoor-entrance straight upstairs to amnesia´s shitty "vip"-area and sip free champagne all night

in the US it is based on a certain # of people per area. All venues have a stated max occupancy. Now many regularly go a bit over and its not a big deal as the stated occupancy isn't close to feeling uncomfortable. But i've seen venues shut or front doors closed by the fire marshall due to overcrowding. If its the same in Ibiza to calculate max occupancy... it appears they are not enforcing it at Amnesia and other places.

We only do the closings now. So the last couple of closings we done,(pete tong closing, pacha) the place quite empty when nervo were playing but was heaving by the time laidback luke came on. Tongy came on at around 4ish and stayed rammed til about half 5ish then the club was about half full. did together/amnesia last year and the main room was full throughout with chase and status and nero etc but the terrace was just over half full until sander van doorn came on, then emptied quite quickly after his set.

serious problems regarding security in certain ibiza clubs !!

"...
08.23.2014
ibiza access controllers and security guards have complained to the city councils of Ibiza security problems in the clubs of the town where they say you are exceeding the permitted capacity, security plans are not met, there is insufficient control personnel and is sufficiently prepared .

The president of the Association of Drivers Access and Internal Environment of the Balearic Islands, Francisco Cruz, and the delegate of the Union of Private Security Professionals Association Alternative Ibiza, Edgar Baez, have denounced these deficiencies in a letter to the municipalities of Ibiza, Santa Eulalia, Sant Josep and Sant Antoni de Portmany, which call for more inspections.

According to the two companies, in the clubs, "beach clubs" (beach clubs ") and similar establishments in Ibiza is in breach of regulations in force regarding capacity and develop activities" potentially very dangerous for the large crowds that cause. "

"As we have seen, in many cases the law is violated emphasizing this potential danger," said the letter.

Representatives of the guards and porters say that in most entertainment "and is marked or the maximum permitted capacity is met, there is not enough staff admission control and environment and, in some cases, these vigilantes have the degree that certifies them to the role entrusted. "

The entities considered "particularly serious" that "by choice or by corporate taxation" security personnel "do dereliction of duty to control the capacity."

Safety plans of these facilities are adapted to a maximum capacity that "does not correspond to the actual occupancy that occurs several times," leading to "a significant risk situation" warn.

"To our associations are concerned about this and we believe that the competent authorities should take action on the matter, before we have to lament misfortunes such as have occurred elsewhere occur," says the letter.

Institutions reported that municipalities are not conducting "a thorough and permanent control of the activity of these establishments to ensure compliance with the order to give security to users and tranquility to its neighbors."

The written claim to the four municipalities of Ibiza to ensure that the permitted gauging, protocols and emergency plans and safety in entertainment are met.

They also ask that check and inspect the security personnel and access controllers have the specific qualifications, both to avoid the intrusion and the risk involved in performing these tasks the people without specific training.

Both entities are considered to be in breach of the Act 7/2013 of 26 November on the legal regime of installation, and pursuit of activities in the Balearic and claim that extreme vigilance to ensure that the entertainment of Ibiza are always installed a plaque at the entrance indicating the maximum permitted capacity and never exceeded.

Considered essential that establishments have security plans tailored to the reality of the activities developed, controlled by suitably qualified personnel, the security features are in perfect condition and that the sale and consumption of drugs is prevented in both within the establishment and nearby.

Also requests that municipalities take steps to avoid the crowds of vehicles entail serious circulation problems in the areas where they are located as entertainment.

I agree completely nowadays. Came as close as I ever have anywhere to actually punching peoples' lights out when I got trapped in Room 1 during one of his sets and couldn't get out because people would not move to let me through. I get a degree of claustrophobia once crowding exceeds a certain level and rather than turn to panic it turns to anger and aggression driven by self-preservation instincts. Trying to control it is extremely difficult - this sort of thing is 'wired' into you so I try very very hard never to put myself in that position.

I remember seeing Sasha at Fabric on one occasion many years ago (no idea what year, they all merge into a blur at my age and can't even tell you which decade half the time once something is more than 5 years back - but around the time of BT's Dreaming so probably 1999/2000ish). Even then, the only place you could dance comfortably was at the very front of the raised stage but it never got to the point where you have to stand in one spot and try to maybe sway a bit because you're crushed on all sides. Just can't see any point at all in that. Horrific.

Pure Pacha in August was ridiculous, no room on the dance floor, stairs or roof terrace but probably not comparable to Insane
