Overcrowding

i never found Manumission per my memory (i went in 96, 99, and i think 2003 or so) to be as bad as Carl Cox has been this and last year. And i refuse to go to Music On just based on the pictures - no way i could tolerate the packed floor like that and not paying the stupid $ there for a table. In the US I can guarantee the fire marshalls would not allow the clubs to get that busy - I agree that there potentially would be a big problem if heaven forbid there was an emergency. Paradise didn't seem horrible to me last week granted i left at 3ish due to having to check out that morning for our flight back home. I think Solomun was the 2nd most packed night i saw the week it just spent on the island.

I agree - the manumission nights back in the day were busy but there was always somewhere you could get relief, albeit on one of the balconies, up behind the swimming pool etc. Plus, most people came for the sex show, once that had been on they all headed back to San Antonio no doubt, post 3am the place was always easy to get around and fine on the main dance floor. Space and DC-10 this is not the case this year. From midnight until close its horrendous, there is nowhere to breathe and they are inviting trouble by over selling to this extent.

We Love always got a little hectic on the terraza back in the day, but as soon as the sun went down people went this way and that and even remember sasha & digweed circa '04 not being bad. I would never have said it was dangerous.

my two cents on the subject:

my ibiza history 'only' goes back 13 years (means 2004 was my first time). my view is that there were always nights that were extremely crowded. as ollie says above, manumission was definitely just as bad as circoloco, carl cox, elrow and a few others are today. I also remember that back then cream in the main room (when trance was still huge) was rammed. we love was also extremely busy week after week. a few nights at pacha too.

so in my opinion, it's probably true that nowadays there are more nights that are that busy in comparison to 10 or 15 years ago. but that's simply because ibiza nowadays has more tourists than ever before (this is a simple fact). also, those 'packed' nights normally change after a few years. years ago pure pacha was a good night, but not one you felt claustrophobic. today it's an extremely busy night from mid may to start of october. or an example that's the other way around, when cocoon still had all the tech gods as residents (2006-2009 ca), there wasn't one night all summer you actually had 'enough' space to dance. now it's mostly just perfectly busy.

to sum up, I don't agree that the overcrowding has gotten worse per se. but it's true that nowadays, more nights are very very busy while years ago it were just a few.

Stivi, I've been to about 30 odd Carl cox parties at space over the 15 years he's played there. I know closing was always going to be busier for longer, but I've never known anything like that. I certainly don't buy the fact that because there are more tourists, more nights are busy. I've being going to the same nights at the same clubs for years (Friday music on, Sunday's space, Monday dc10 & amnesia, Tuesday space are all locked in before we book). Fact is some of these nights have a lot more people at them than they used to and the clubs haven't got bigger. The capacity of the discoteca is 2000, I'd be surprised if there wasn't 3500 in there, and the terraza, sunset terrace AND upstairs terrace were busting at the seams on Tuesday. The only place my mates could dance easily was in the salon!

yeah but honestly, are you really surprised that carl cox was bursting at its seams every week this year? I'm not.

Yeah Manumission late 90s wasn't remotely as bad as Revolution latterly (been a couple of times in last 5 years or so and both times it was just about intolerable to me) or a packed out Circo Loco. One CL closing party experience I think in 2012 was my idea of absolute hell and was so bad that year it sealed my resolve never to put myself through another Ibiza closing session again. I also had a long Cocoon hiatus because it got ridiculous for many years as Stivi says - actually I think it was Stivi who finally twisted my arm to go back a few years ago and I really had an amazing time that night, it really had got "just right" again.

My Cream days didn't endure that much beyond the first 6 years or so, from the very early ones at Ku/Privilege in mid-90s. I was already done with Cream by the mid-00s. Nothing remotely like today - music aside wouldn't even consider it now. I went to Music On once the first year it started and that was already way too much for me, before the night had even really kicked off in terms of numbers.

All that said I am naturally more than a little claustrophobic and have even had panic attacks in Fabric Room 1 with crushing, it's not just Ibiza which has / has had overcrowding issues....

Talking of over crowding mrs, if you find a man squashed up against you next week wearing sunglasses and slightly(maybe more) over weight using the crush as an excuse to get up close with you I'll apologise now in advance
Lol is your body as fit as the pic hahahhaha
....good excuse that its too overcrowded, cant no room to dance...blah blah heard that one before;) remember i am gonna act like i dont know you:eek:

As much as I a massive Coxy fan for the last 20 years my Ibiza journey only started 2013. I did 2013&2014 closings, August in 2015 and this years Opening party.

There was no way I was going to this closing as surely your experiences would have told you exactly how busy this was gonna be.

As Stivi said. I am not surprised.

Some people are "closing party people" who are happy enough to squeeze into sandwiched dancefloors through the main party hours and others simply aren't. The only good thing for me about closings is if the nights go into extended hours as you can usually enjoy the final hours pretty comfortably, as long as you can go in very late and the atmosphere then can be amazing. It's a handy time to see lots of people because so many go out at the same time in theory, but then most people are usually so mangled there's rarely prospects of spending any significant 'quality time' together and hooking up can be more of a good idea than a reality in practice unless you get your act together pretty early.

As long as you know what you're getting into, are determined to have a good time no matter what and have the right mindset for putting aside all the negative aspects and crushing then I'm sure there are some great times to be had and that's brilliant for those people who like things that way. If you are adversely affected by those things the decision is simple - just don't go clubbing during the closings as you're probably not the right match. There's so much hype about them every year it's easy to think you're probably being the odd one out but truly, they're not for every type of person.

I'm not surprised. Like I said, I expected it to be busy. We've gone off topic a little though - my original point is that these nights are worse than I've ever known them to the point of being dangerous to the punters. Is it going to take a Hillsboro type disaster for the promoters and club owners to wake up. Because I've been in football crushes before and this is almost worse, as not only is it packed, it's stiflingly hot and a lot of people aren't totally with it, either due to drink or drugs.

it's not only often too full in ibizan clubs this year, they are also full of people completely clueless about the music, which is really terrible for the atmosphere!

I saw it among my own friends and work colleagues: people who would normally go to all inclusive clubs in tunesia or crete and rhodes were going to ibiza this summer for the first time,
because they were afraid of terror and financial crisis/refugees. people who NEVER go to an electronic music club at home were standing around in pacha and amnesia as a tourist attraction :/
