Global Gathering 2011

I know what DMT is I was asking about DXM but I've just found out it's cough medicine - how bizarre :)

It's not cough medicine. It's used *in* cough medicine, but you'd need to drink lots of cough medicine to get the buzz, which would be unwise given all the other stuff in cough medicine. You can buy it as a raw ingredient.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dextromethorphan

Since their introduction, over-the-counter preparations containing dextromethorphan have been used in manners inconsistent with their labeling, often as a recreational drug.[6] At doses higher than medically recommended, dextromethorphan is classified as a dissociative psychedelic drug, with visible effects that are similar to those of ketamine and phencyclidine (PCP). It can produce distortions of the visual field, feelings of dissociation, distortions of bodily perception, excitement, as well as a loss of comprehension of time. Some users report euphoria. Dextromethorphan usually provides its recreational effects in a non-linear fashion, so that they are experienced in significantly varied stages. These stages are commonly referred to as "plateaus."[

the likes of Tinie Tempah and other pop stars stop me from going, like Dizzee Rascal stopped me from going last year, Guetta has stopped me going to Creamfields this year also.

If they stop putting 'artists' like these on I'm sure more people with taste would go, instead of the young, tone deaf crowd!
Guetta still is a huge dance dj, just gone really really really commercial, it would be foolish for creamfields to NOT book him considering 2 years ago they had to close the tent he was djing in because it had maxed out and so many were trying to get in!

He is a man which does sell a stupid amount of tickets.

first he is a pop dj, and second once the music becomes all about the money then it all goes down hill

Think how many Guetta fans you could nuke in one go. :D

Well, it is a true fact ;)

Hmm. Doubt I'll go to global though, sadly. Ibiza will ruin me.

Well it isn't actually, if they didn't have the cheese, then more people with good taste would go and they would be able to get the better acts, if they downsized the festival to say 20,000, only had good acts on, then they could sell the tickets to people who arn't tone deaf, therefore still be able to pay for the good artists.

Once they became greedy, hiring a 50,000 venue/field thing, just to make more money, they lost touch with why they should be doing a festival to begin with, and instead of saying "right we have to get bigger better acts in, say Chemical Brothers or Faithless for example to keep that festival vibe going, they didn't they said " why don't we just pay over the odds for the latest pop star, get all the idiot chart going kids to attend, because that is what the masses are forced to listen to by radio stations and all that kind of commercial bollocks"

Look at the European festivals, their line ups are amazing and not a cheese sandwich anywhere! They don't have to get a pop star to perform just to get a crowd in, at least they know what a festival still is!

Andy - just as a matter of interest......can you tell me who your favourite DJ's are, what your fav night in Ibiza is, and what is your fav UK club.

I'm just interested.

But isn't Electronic Dance Music more wide spread in Europe than it is over here? That's my understanding of the situation, anyway.

Global Gathering is about making money, as almost all UK Festivals are. Look at Leeds and Reading. Both rock / indie festivals, but they still had Deadmau5 play last year (or the year before, can't remember which), and have 2manyDJs and the streets playing this year, neither of which are rock/indie. Festivals are expected to be big. And they'll only get bigger. It's commercialism for you. Every year, the big brand festivals find new ways to make themselves bigger, to attract more people and make more money. And the bigger the festival, the more it needs to diversify to make money.

Yes, Creamfields could not have Guetta, SHM, etc and Global could not have Tinie Tempah, etc. But they'd loose alot of their fans, and leave a fair few of the people who went thinking 'It wasn't as big as last year'. And thats damaging to the brand.

The big festivals aren't really festivals anymore. They are more about putting out the big brands to play and making sure the campsites are full.

Yup, it's all about money and not the music which is sad

Is this a trick? :p

Let's see my favourite dj's, going off Ibiza last year were Louie Vega, Wally Lopez, 2000 and One, Felix Da Housecat, Miss Divine, Simon Dunmore, Andy Baxter, probably a few more.

Favourite night in Ibiza would have been doing shots with Louie Vega in Cafe Mambo 8), or club night was probably Defected @ Pacha, they had Bob Sinclar headlining which was a bit meh, but Simon Dunmore & Miss Divine rocked the place, also One Night With....Wally Lopez @ Space just blew me away.

Favourite UK club would be World Headquaters in Newcastle, 600 Capacity over two rooms, laid back vibes and you don't get the normal d1cks in since it's just outside the city centre! 8)

Andy I've just come to the conclusion that you and I are definitely not on the same level

You're choice of favourite DJ's are people I'd avoid at all costs apart from Felix cos he's a fellow feline and I suppose Louie is tasteful just a bit boring
