Women in dance music...discuss!

Yeah, that whole Mikaela thing was proper weird. Is she gonna be back on the scene this summer?

Came out of nowhere and was very vocal about how "underground" she was. Me thinks she doth protest too much.

Sorry again mate. You must have thought I'd gone mad.

Yeah, I agree. She has been around Ibiza for a few years doing parties at bars in pdb. Then suddenly landed her own night at space. I actually like the line ups 'she' put on at onyx but the marketing budget behind her is quite phenomenal. She takes out pages and pages of adverts in mixmag and other publications in the U.K and clearly they gets them onside. There is a lot of investment in PR in Ibiza too. It's all quite bizarre. Cacazu is another outside Ibiza but doesn't quite have the money behind her that mikaela does.

Like I say, these stand out. But it really is no different to the edm scene and certain male djs.

Yeah, one of my current favourite DJs.

Great to see so many women really standing out from the crowd at present (other examples include Shanti Celeste, Lena Willikens, Helena Hauff, Courtesy, Apeiron Crew, Moxie...) which will hopefully help to balance things.
yeah, good shout, Helena Hauff's Essential Mix from a couple of weeks back is brilliant. Best one I've heard in ages.

Patterns Brighton just announced their Spring programming, and it reads like a dream: Willow, Shanti Celeste, Avalon Emerson all prominent alongside peers like Axel Boman, Joy Orbison, Move D, Horse Meat Disco.

I need to get down there again. Not been since they stopped calling it Audio

Do you live in Brighton too? Patterns in great and the sound far better than when it was Audio. I ran a few Vanishing Point parties at Patterns in 2015 & 2016, although it's currently on a break as I'm too busy with my day job! Booked Optimo, Denis Sulta, Justin Roberton, Michael Mayer, Ivan Smagghe and Krystal Klear. Plus the fantastic up and coming DJ Tina Paz too!

Although Patterns themselves had booked most of the female DJs I wanted to book for their in-house nights!

No, I'm in Kent. But Brighton is so short a drive-away (40mins on a clear run) and there's consistently good nights on most weekends and it's absurd how much cheaper door tax is in Brighton compared to here (which is effectively London pricing)

I wish I went more. In fact, no, I wish I could convince everybody else to be as keen as me to go more!

I'm in the process of buying a house down there. Will need to hit you up for a few tips when we actually complete!

Excellent choice! I've lived down here since 2010 and love it. Great place and thanks to Patterns and Mono, the clubbing scene is improving too.

All the best with the completion too.

@Clara please post in the forum when you are next throwing an event. I'm well game for poppin' along. Can try to wangle a review for you if you wish
