What's going to happen to SPACE after 2016?

If the Ushuaia people really do change it to a Ushuaia club, I really hope Space finds a new home in a very remote part of the island. I think it would be a bad business move though taking down the Space sign and replacing it with Ushuaia.

What's your view Stivi - good thing or a bad thing if Space moves and Ushuaia mk2 or similar pops up?

it'll certainly be the end of an era as discussed on here previously. even if they'd keep calling the current venue 'space' (what I personally doubt as they already have the new name ready apparently), it won't be the same. and even if they open up space elsewhere on the island, it won't be the same neither. I think that much we have to accept - things will be different after the end of the next season (latest).

if it's a good or a bad thing? we'll see. of course I have my feelings about that, but it's too early to tell without knowing the full details.

The Ushuaia club bit is a revelation. Thats now primary evidence in my book! Fact! Fck!

The only good news to come out of this is the absolute must go and say good bye motivation we will have to get a good crew out there next year. I'm sure closing parties for some of the nights there are going to be emotional!

As much as I dislike this along with the majority, it makes perfect business sense for Ushuaia to turn it into a club of their own. Not exactly sure how double residencies and things like that would work, but think about having both the day party market cornered (5pm - 12am as their current events are) and then having people pay again to go into your club (12am - 7am) with potential for them to sell combo passes for days/weeks/weekends etc. They could make a killing and I dont think most of the younger generation will care that much what the name of the club is. I've only been coming to Ibiza for 4 years so I dont have the nostalgia of Space say 10 years ago, but it is my favorite club on the island in its current format so any change to me is big negative.

Space is just another club on the circuit now, it uniqueness as a venue was when it had no roof/net roof and its opening times being afters and daytime.
Pushing the “Ushuaia” brand by re-naming Space would make sense as one team pushing two brands seems like extra graft to me. If they can get folk to toodle across to Ushuaia Night after being at Ushuaia Hotel/Tower/Day they are doing a good job. However, will people with combo tickets go to Ushuaia Day a lot later, which is not what the owners will want. How many folk who currently go to Ushuaia go straight to Space, judging by the taxi ranks not many imo. How many folk currently go to Zoo, Ushuaia or Ocean Beach then do a club? Combo tickets sound great but they are not for majority folk imo. Won’t the majority of us say if Ushuaia Day headliners are on at Ushuaia Night say screw the day gig I am going to eat greasy food, scratch me nads, have a few siestas and go to Ushuaia Night? That’s just me isn’t it!

Space going elsewhere, the options seem to be Privilege or Eden. Privilege would be the better location to retain the Space crowd it currently has. If Space moves to Eden, the nights would have to suit the British more with maybe more Spanish/British offering on a Friday/Saturday. With a weak Es Pardis it could clear up. Also us San An folk could invest our taxi funds into our night out!

All the above is my waffle as I stare out of the window looking at lots of folk from New Zealand, Scotland and South Africa walk through Newcastle, spotted the odd Tongan as well.

All very true. In all honesty the island and scene has been in a constant state of change and we all keep coming back.

Let's just enjoy it while we can and see what happens.

Just a thought, but what's everyone's views on a scenario where another club, Amnesia for example, owned the lease and was about to create Amnesia MK2??

I know i'm personally totally gutted that Space will close/change but i'm also angry because it's going to Ushuaia PLC and the steaming lump of dung that that comes with...

Would everyone be as annoyed/depressed/angry if it was going to another club??

I hope it goes to privilege and has success there. Eden could work too but yes the clientele could change a lot at Eden. I th8nk that space will move to another venue, it will be difficult though it's hard to say how it will work, maybe privilege would be too much of a risk.

Privilege needs a cash injection if they were to make this work. It's too tired. I would love nothing more than 'Space' to move and actually come up with something better and fresher than Ushuaia Club.

Maybe Carl Cox will come up with something special for us.

ric - understand your comment above very well. but that said, I honestly can't really imagine myself any other club taking over one of the other clubs if that makes sense. in any case things would change drastically. I work very closely with the clubs for 8-10 months a year and the differences in administration/approach/ideology etc is huge from one club to the other. we know it's going to happen now in the 'space taken over by ushuaïa group' example, but everyone here on the island knows that things will be different. but...it would be different in any case. I get your point though that some people wouldn't mind so much if it was venue x taking over venue y instead of the case we're talking about.

as a side, it is not unusual for a commercial lease (particularly lengthy ones) to stipulate that, at the end of the lease, the lessee returns the property to the lessor in the same condition as it was originally let. Someone mentioned that it was originally let as a conference facility with annexed nightclub. Clearly there have been various additions over the years and it is not inconceivable that these would need to be removed as per the lease terms. Conversely, the lease may stipulate that any additions transfer to the owner at expiry of the lease. Or, it may be entirely silent on the issue (which could be problematic). Just a thought, but i'd love to see the lease

Reckon he might stay at whatever it turns into as he needs multiple rooms for his night to work... Or else be like We love, and cut about 75% off the line-up...
