The Olympics

Please no one project their moans onto London today. I can't bear it.

The olympics are bloody amazing. 8)

I have to agree, you Brit are doing a great job. I have watched events that I had no previous interest in (handball, table tennis, and field hockey).

Byte size sport = ideal for my Weatherall ravaged flea brain over the weekend.

LOVING the judo and swimming - so much more entertaining than blimmin' football.

Also: comedown day today and spirits lifted by a sunny morning on the Roman Road runway including sightings of a lean, muscular jogger (& coach?) and an old lady working a pink barnet finished off with a bright blue stripe. Fierce. 8)

Been a superb show so far - so much security though. Went down to Stratford on Saturday, you couldnt get near the Olympic Park, ringed with security. Was at the boxing Saturday night -came down from Custom House DLR station and counted 7 different blokes in handcuffs, all touts. Some amount of police and security around.
Very impressed with the opening ceremony as well.

Danny Boyle nailed it in so many ways. This was such a British affair and enough to bring on a wave of patriotism - even for me. 8O

The dry humour, realness and self deprecation was evident throughout (unlike the Bejing equivalent when child models were used to mime when singers weren't deemed attractive enough). Punk spirit and socialist values permeated the whole affair, with bold political statements about the NHS (much to the dismay of Tory MP, Aiden Burly, who branded it ‘leftie multicultural crap' - no surprises there) and even a nod to the sex pistols - with the Queen in the house! Her entrance was priceless.

Sign “O” the times - this wouldn't have happened in the 80s. The acid house generation have grown up and those that could be found munted at Shoom, Spectrum, Clinc St, BoysOwn, Sunrise and the Hacienda are now fancy ad agency execs.

In came the marching athletes to a mix of British disco and early progressive house (cue Underworld, ‘Dark & Long'). The only annoying moment was Dizzie Rascal and ‘Bonkers' - reeeeeally???

Cut to the Queen checking her fingernails for dirt when Team GB were on the runway - so perfect it's almost as though Boyle had scripted it this way.

yes i watch Netherlands v Beligum hockey match yesterday.spent a few hours last night trying to find the dutch kit online for Mrs 74.:spank:

You managed to Grindr any athletes yet, Robder?

 no.

Still in my mobile amnesty phase.

Considering getting an android soon but it's hugely presumptuous on my part to assume that a strapping athlete would want anything to do with a feral Bethnal Green creature like me.

There's a reason we are the only nation to hold the Olynpics for a third time. I've been reading a few American editorials that claim the opening ceremony was boring. Man, they really are bitter about their little history when compared to ours.

The NBC coverage was laughable. I'm sure most people loved it, the media delivery was uneducated tosh, that's all.

If you don't have a ticket you can't win a prize.

I have it covered , my jogging route goes past the stadium and I have my own flat on Victoria Park.

No athlete in their right mind is going to want to get nasty on home turf. They're packed in like sardines.

My understanding with the whole Dizzee Rascal thing is that he is actually from Hackney, hence why he got the nod.

Yep.

But my take on this is that grime was a momentary flash in the pan, like this rehashed breakbeats formula commonly known as 'dubstep'.

OK so it's current and the kids/pirate radio stations were all over it a few years ago - but still, bonkers is mass produced van helden $hite and represents nothing about the genre. A fact that is made all the more evident when surrounded by such carefully selected music from Underworld. 8)

Rave was much more revolutionary - where were the Castlemorton and kill the bill vids? Surely they'd rank alongside the sex pistols?

Loving the Olympics here too!

Actually quite surprised at how much I'm getting into it - I think BBC's viewing options via red button are great :) Taking the time to watch things you have no idea about and realising you've been tuned in for ages = 8)

Thought Dampney and Mullin on the beach volleyball yesterday were great to watch (perhaps for different reasons than some ha!) - the crowd down there were really getting into the party spirit, despite the rain.

Opening ceremony was immense and gave me a real lump in the throat, well done Danny Boyle! Yep, I'm sure there were elements of it lost on our international friends, but that made it all the better having some things that our nation could come together and enjoy with a wee nudge nudge wink wink ;) Muscially brilliant, and as you say Robder just brilliant seeing the likes of Sex Pistols blasting with the Queen in the house  Guilty pleasure for me though on the Bonkers inclusion  but what an instantly recognisable sound to cut through and get the masses dancing! Hmmm not so great on Paul McCartney's start and I know a few who complained about his inclusion/choice of song, but again something that brings everyone together.....no matter what language you speak I'm sure the majority can sing along with the na na na na's

So impressed with the opening ceremony myself. The industrial revolution and NHS bits especially. This is probably the only time in my life that London will host the Olympics, so I may as well enjoy it. We probably won't see it back in the UK in our life time.

Summer games host country1904, 1932, 1984, 1996 winter games host country 1932, 1960, 1980, 2002. The USA cities bid for the Olympics not the whole country. Don't know which news outlets you read but just like in the UK we have crap that is suppose to be news.
The NBC coverage was laughable. I'm sure most people loved it, the media delivery was uneducated tosh, that's all.
ESPN would have been better for sport, NBC is just so so. The games tell there own story.

Get you grindr on end the ban;)

Ok, a glaring factual error from me there! Thank you for clarifying! I'm blaming the commentary for that one!

But to call the ceremony boring...

I'm loving it! I was in town Saturday and Sunday and the amount of people walking around with 2012 t shirts on and Union Jacks is unbelievable as well as other nationalities wearing their kit
