Too much is made of the EDM thing imo. It is dying out. Look at Miami Ultra this year, much more has been made of the underground house & techno stages having strong line ups, where as a lot of big EDM names are missing and a lot of American sheep kids are moaning that their paying $350 for a weak EDM line up.
Look at Tomorrowland main stage line up too, Joris Voorn, Carl Cox, Luciano, Paul Kalkbrenner all on the main stage for the first time.
With the above in mind I'd be surprised to see Hi throwing loads of money at EDM nights seeing that is the opposite of what is happening elsewhere?
Agreed about the global downturn of EDM.
But I think Ushuaia/Hi will put faith in EDM nights simply because they need to play the percentages:
a) underground clubbers aren't that hot on their venue. Ants and 1 other works. But look at 2013(? maybe '14?) when they tried to more underground. Didn't work. (same with Pacha).
b) already a saturation of underground parties. They needs to be balance if these people want to make money (and they do!)
c) taking tourists out of the equation - plenty of residents like more commercial music too.
