oh it's been easily the busiest start of the season I've ever seen icey. I actually wanted to make a post about that, but simply have been too busy.

EVERYWHERE is so busy already. really. traffic is crazy, beaches are busy. then I drove into PdB sat and sunday night (both times simply because I went to space), I have never seen PdB THAT busy in early june.

honestly, we're off to another record breaking season.

a few more thoughts about some of the openings:

HYTE opening - I didn't go, but since everyone is curious about it, it was busy enough, but slightly less than cocoon (that comes from amnesia directly). apparently a really good vibe, not such an italian sausagefest as at music on. MUSIC ON opening was obviously rammed - I gave it a miss.

then I went to...

elrow/kehakuma opening - perfectly busy in all three rooms (sunset terrace was least busy but that's obvious). amazing decor, huge effort they're doing there every year. I think this year saturday night at space might be their second or third strongest night (after coxy and maybe ENTER). even though everyone that went to ANTS got a reverse wristband (sankeys lab on saturdays alongside magna carta), people are still carrying on at space afterwards. ANTS opening I didn't go, but it was VERY busy, that much I know.

vagabundos opening - a big wow for the transformation of the terraza. very well done. the night as a whole will need some work - discoteca wasn't busy last night, but I think they'll make it work. don't expect it to be as busy as we love used to be - it will never get to that size. it's also 'only' three floors, terraza, discoteca and sunset terrace. so at least for now, premier etage and el salon are closed (of course that might change depending on how well things go).

cocoon 8th june
- great set by villalobos
- terrace nicely perfectly busy, main room a tad quiet. no surprise though, second cocoon of the season is always the quietest of the summer.

together / defected opening
went spontaneously as I was curious to see defected on amnesia terrace
- main room for together VERY busy
- terrace for defected busy although not packed. bit of room to dance, actually perfectly busy.
- terrace layout 'normal' so regular DJ booth used, no stage booth as with cream or together in past years.
- a good start for defected for sure, but gotta consider no competition still right now, other big tuesday nighters only start later.
- music far too commercial for my liking, that's why I was typing this here in the club instead of being on the dancefloor.

omg. july /august will be a nightmare ...

i blame part of the "problem" on this terrible 2013 movie ...
it brings way to many fake people from a certain country to ibiza ...
and "they" are EVERYWHERE ...

the foul joke is that it brings exactly that crowd to ibiza which pretends to be "actors" in that "movie".
that invasion of so-called "HIPPYCHIC"-bullshit came with them, too ...

ps:
there are even connections between that tacky heineken-event at s`estanyol and that "movie" ...

here are a few pics of a place I quickly went last weekend. these are places where I currently head to in order to restore my work/life balance ;)

quick update on the current state of how the season's going:

may and june - absolute massive months generally. but the last 10-14 days seem to be a tad quieter than normally. especially some people (promoters, hotels etc) that run stuff in playa d'en bossa tell me that right now should be busier. the last two circoloco mondays were weirdly quiet compared to how they normally are at that time of the year. I suspect that the pdb peak season prices have become too high for some people (rightly so IMO - some of those prices are a joke) and that quite a lot of people have therefore changed to june or september when hotel rates are a little lower. I don't have that confirmed by anyone, but it might as well be. hotel occupancy is still very very high overall, but the peak season prices might actually help the shoulder season to perform better than it usually did.

on the nationalities front, the early season saw lots and lots of french people and LOADS of dutch. but that story we already know, since 'verliefd op ibiza' the dutch market has literally exploded here. on the other hand a few other nationalities are now present A LOT more than they did before: americans (that's not so surprising), but then what's more surprising: CANADIANS, INDIANS, PAKISTANI, UAE. I currently feel it's getting a lot more cosmopolitan, on a world wide level, not just mainly europe as it used to be. of course also lots of brasilian people too.

You sure are right about the hotel prices in PDB. Unbelievably expensive in mid late July.

I couldn't beleive how much places that are normally cheap ( for e.g., Bon Sol) are so expensive.

Still, I'll be there in less than 2 weeks! ;)

Looking at hotels for friends for mid-August, I had a hefty LOL at some of the prices quoted in PDB. £687 per night at Hard Rock (not even for a suite) & £703 at Ushuaia.

Who on earth actually pays these prices?!

I have no idea! I was shocked to see how much places like Bon Sol (previously, was always my go-to cheapie) were costing. Have they done some massive upgrades?

No such thing as a last minute booking in July.

Like you, I have no idea who pays those ridiculous prices you mentioned.

Nothing wrong with high end options, but here didn't seem to be much/any cheaper options...even if one is looking for a no-frills room!
