stivi's ibiza chronicles

so...peak season has arrived on the island, but as ever, the offer in the clubbing world is simply too big. the island is oversaturated with club nights, daytime events in beach clubs as well as boat parties. there will be a few event cancellations soon.

Any ideas what the issue was last night with the cops closing down tINI's party at No Name in PDB? I assume these events are getting too big and they have no license? Think we all saw that coming...

Also, Stvi, by cancellations I assume you mean just the usual cancellations that Eden / Es Paradis etc. I mean the big boys (Amnesia / Pacha / Space etc would never cancel events would they?

Domestic tourism increases the Balearic Islands,
but low Scandinavian and German in the first six months of 2015

More domestic passengers, but less British, Scandinavian and especially Germans. Ibiza Airport received a total of 1.1806 million people between January and June 2015, representing a 5.10% increase over the same period last year, mainly due to the increase of Spanish tourists.

The good news is that domestic traffic, after shrinking in the worst years of the crisis, is returning to the Balearic Islands. In recent months the accumulated number is 555 752 passengers from different parts of the Spanish geography, 12.2% more than in 2014, which was 495 667 people. Only in June the number was 155 853, by 137 470 in the same month last year.

It has also increased the number of visitors from:
Poland (58.04%), with 2,388 in the last six months;
Switzerland (38.27%), with 22 781;
Belgium (22.55%), with 15,230;
Netherlands (13.30%), with 55 042; :confused:
and Russia (15.45%), with 568 passengers.

But not all good news.
Although usual tourist markets in the Balearic Islands and Italy and the UK maintained the levels of previous years and the change is minimal, in the latter case the balance is negative. A total of 101 152 Italians have traveled to the islands from January to June (1'10% more than in 2014), by 265 301 (-0.81%) of Britons, who last year at this time, they amounted of 267 455.

Decrease
Worst is the data in the case of the Germans.
Last year at this time, they arrived 111 425 tourists by 100 157 this year.
That is, a percent loss of 10.11 percent.
In the month of June, compared to last year, this difference was -12.94%.

There is also a significant decline in tourism from Norway, which has grown from 2,260 people to only 2 in the first six months (-99.91%).
Also decreases the number of people arriving in Sweden (-64.92%),
Denmark (-39.13%)
and Czech Republic (-32.99%).

One final note. In 2014 there were five tourists from Slovakia.
This year has not yet reached any.
They will be missed.

here are a few pics of a place I quickly went last weekend. these are places where I currently head to in order to restore my work/life balance ;)

Love the look of this hard to find place...Just a guess from a bit of Google map huntin'......
S'Esqueneta Arenesta?

more record numbers for this season...

http://www.diariodeibiza.es/pitiuse...uerto-vuelve-superar-record-julio/786764.html

almost 5% more passengers arriving to ibiza in july. over a million passengers in one month. august is probably going to be just the same...

...this all comes at a price though. it's not only my opinion, but recently you can read a lot about it on local media. the traffic has never been as bad as this year, a few roads have daily traffic jams right now and that's something which I think is a pretty new thing for ibiza. then I feel there's sadly generally more waste laying around on (some of) the beaches. the waste problem is not only home made though as, believe it or not, every now and then you find packaging waste originating from northern africa washed ashore. other balearic islands are also affected by that. other than that, due to the very dry past two winters (and probably also the staggering and still rising number of villas with swimming pools), ground water is at a record low right now and some areas need help from other areas so that water can be provided for everyone. don't get me wrong, I don't see ibiza properly endangered, but there is an equilibrium that needs to be kept in balance. and I do think (or maybe I should say hope) in the next few years a few things will happen. ideas like limiting the amount of cars are evolving and probably make sense - the island isn't getting any bigger, but tourist numbers rise every year. the problem with the traffic is obviously only limited to july and august, but other issues affect island locals all year around.

it's a delicate matter all of this - it's of course amazing to see how ibiza thrives, but it simply also has its downsides. playa d'en bossa, to me, seems more and more a victim of its own success. I really used to like PdB until a few years ago, but it's lost its attraction to me, with the exception of the very southern tip of the beach and space. great for long winter walks though still!

rumours seem to be true. space closing 2015 will be THE closing. can't copy the text right now, but read what's written on the space closing facebook event...

can anyone copy the message, cant seem to find it for some reason!! i cannot believe this could be the end for Space as we know it.... Gutted if is true, wont be able to go before it closes.... literally could cry lol so many memories !

"This Closing will transform the sense of sadness to a musical joy, because it's not the end it's the beginning of another chapter in the history of the best club in the world. See you all next Sunday 4th October. At Space Ibiza"
This is on their closing party event description. Is this what you were referring to Stivi?

Thanks @Benjamn6

Well seems like a bit of a mixed message to me (probably more like me hoping for the best!) You heard anything more than this Stivi? (obviously i know you probably cant say what if you do know anything more!) or just a guess that this could mean the end for Space as we know it from this message?

I think it's as you say at the end of your comment. The end of space was we know it. It might be open next season under a new name. That's just me guessing though.

Well that is depressing even if it is just the change of name :cry: It just wont feel the same!!! I hope to god were putting 2+2 and getting 5 but you lot are far more in the know then i will ever be so i trust your thoughts!

I will be on the island sunday 4th october aswell !!!! Gutted i aint gonna be at Space !! I was hoping to take the missus out there next year for a couple of days of partying, she hasnt been Space before.... Shame on her LOL!

Has got to be the biggest "End of an era" there will ever be in clubland i suppose ?

If Space is closing at the end of this season, it's very depressing indeed.

I thought I would have one more season to get my last farewell in. If it closes, I will probably shed a few real tears!

I've had so many memories from Space...and probably some other times I can't remember ;)

Matinee -when it was a daytime party -best daytime party on the island IMO!
Carry on - my first ever Space experience more than 10 years ago!
Numerous Carl Cox nights
Enter
We love on Sundays -I remember going at 10 am one Sunday and staying until it closed on Monday

Boo!!!

might be a hoax though. it's just rumours that have been doing the rounds all year and this message can easily be misinterpreted to be honest.

we'll find out...

sunday exploring - ses balandres. damn hard to get to the beach, but so worth it...I've had the place to myself :)

if anyone wants to try this, wear proper footwear, bring lots of water and food and be careful! this is definitely an 'advanced' excursion and not for the faint-hearted!
