4.30pm - i'm sure they just plucking times out the air, I can't see how this back up their 'give people a rest theory' - who needs 10.5 hrs sleep/rest when they're in Ibiza!! ?? 8O8O8O

A staggering ten-and-a-half hours per day?

Summer 2008 may see Ibiza clubs closed for an unprecedented ten-and-a-half hours per day. This news comes just as clubs and clubbers are adjusting to new the "no after-hours" law which already imposes a 6AM-12noon ban.

The existing law was designed to bring Sant Josep - home to Space and DC10 - into line with the rest of the island, meaning Ibiza's two world-famous daytime party destinations are now only allowed to open from midday.

This measure doesn't go far enough for Ibiza's governing body, the Consell Insular. On 3 March the Consell will meet with the mayors to propose extending club closing hours from 6AM to 4.30PM - a staggering ten-and-a-half hours per day. As a concession to two of the busiest weekends of the season they will suggest "extended" opening hours between 25 May-5 June and 1-15 October for opening and closing parties.

As for the Consell's motives, local news reports simply repeat the assertion they wish to stop the "uninterrupted" functioning of clubs. To which we have to ask: isn't that what the "after-hours" law is for?
And why the sudden interest from the upper echelons of government? Though the Voice strongly disagrees with the arguments in support of the original law at least they were coming from Paquita Ribas, the councillor for Sant Josep. She, at least, could argue she spoke for her local constituents.

Who is the Consell speaking for? It can't be the residents - who are presumably safely at work by midday; or the club owners, who stand to lose vast sums of money; or local bars, hotels and businesses who could see their profits nose-dive if tourism takes a hit. And they certainly don't speak for the 100s of thousands of clubbers around the world who come to Ibiza seeking a few days of carefree pleasure in the sunshine. For the sake of the island: its spirit, its vitality, its economy, its image… we hope the government satisfies itself with the current six-hour closures.

ps:
the only thing these clowns already achieved
is a worldwide devastating media-coverage
- as if they wouldn´t have done enough damage last year ...

thank god they are (obviously) announcing this crap early enough,
so hopefully nobody will get fooled like last year
with the sudden and unexpected borabora/dc10/amnesia-closure.

i personally know many people who would have cancelled their june-07-ibiza-trip
if they would have known before of the shutdown of some of their beloved places
by the "authorities" !

yes, and pigs have wings and can fly.....

I don't get it
Wouldn't Space have more to loose on opening 4:30 pm, than for example closing at 4am on Saturdays (which are quiet in comparison) an opening 2:30 pm on Sundays?
You saying this wouldn't be accepted even though its closed for 10 and a half hour?

if its approved they wont be able to open before 4.30pm, no matter how many hours they have been closed..... lets wait till next week and see what happens ! !

and here we go with yet another move to finish completly with the after hours in san antonio..... with certain british pub and certain dodgy bull bar to be more precise:

 one more hour at night

the restaurants and cafes will be able to attend people one more hour at night after passing from 8am-3am to 8am to 4am. "it wasnt fair that some venues that dont cause any problems to the neighbours have to close earlier or had to get a music license , even if they were not music bars".

the norm that permitted bars serving breakfast open at 6am got tougher. "the reality is that a lot of bars didnt serve breakfast but alcoholic drinks, becoming after hours". from now on only the bars, restaurants and cafes that ask for it and have the right license will be able to open at 6am. they will have to prove that they serve breakfast regulary and only will be able to get that permit the venues that open all year round and that havent been fined ( ¡ ouch ! ). "this will be good for the municipality and its the line we will carry on from now on". the fines for not respecting this norm will be up to 3.000€ but the town hall is in talks with the consell insular, who plans to put them higher.

"Well as we all know the Ibiza season is finished, but plans are coming together for a more solid base for next summer, without all the troubles from the West End Rumour Mill, no names mentioned, but you know who you are lol Have a great winter, and see you all next summer, roll on Ibiza 2008"

i wonder where they will find "a more solid base" now.....

The Party is over for DC10 and Space ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The festive season is a distant memory now for those embroiled in the business of a long cold winter north of the Alps. So now attention turns to that glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel - summer holidays.
T.V. advertising is now awash with waves lapping beaches decorated with bikini clad revellers frolicking in the sun. The time has come to book a summer holiday, and the tourist boards from resorts all around the Med are setting out their promotional stalls.
It is also the time of year when news gets a bit thin on the ground.
Journalists have to dig a little deeper into their resources, or imagination,
to come up with something that the 'editor' might find print worthy.

So, neatly combining these two facts, the international press have once again seized upon the imminent demise of Ibiza as a holiday destination with headlines like "The Party's over". The logic behind writing off Ibiza this year stems from the decision of San Jose municipality to fall into line with the rest of the island's municipalities by insisting that its clubs close at 6 in the morning.

This has been the case for some time for the rest of the island and for all but one of the big clubs - Space. The only other notable venue affected will be DC10, but that has more or less revolved around a dozen or so Monday mornings each summer.
Consequently it seems a little odd to vilify, for alleged noise nuisance,
a venue in the middle of a field on the far side of the airport runway.

The consensus of opinion, amongst the majority of those who should know, is that the negative effect on island tourism is unlikely to be huge.
As regards Space, it has capitalized upon being voted the 'best night club on the planet'
by prudently investing and expanding to cater for the various 'Carry-on' parties
and other events that have enabled it to stay open almost around the clock.
Their business will be affected, as will the livelihoods of their daytime promoters fighting for slots in the most exclusive clubbing market in the world, but don't expect Space to file for bankruptcy any time soon...

Turning to the thousands of clubbers who'll change their holiday plans if they're not allowed to party between 6 in the morning and lunchtime - most of us probably won't notice their absence. In actual fact, they'll be struggling to find anywhere else in Europe offering 'after-hours' parties, so they might as well pass those morning hours waiting for the clubs to re-open at one of the islands' hundred plus beaches for a change?

If, however, the island authorities' assertion that the people who attend after-hours parties are undesirables and cause problems, what are their contingency plans if these people still turn up?

They won't be confined to two easily controlled clubs in the southern corner of the island - they'll be everywhere else... One does wonder what constructive observations were put forward by the islands' police, to proposals that will likely see them running around the island breaking up illegal hill and beach parties when they're already understaffed and struggling to keep on top of petty crime. The ambulance authorities certainly aren't amused by the prospect of attending to drug casualties in homes spread across the island, rather than at one or two clubs with security and medical officers in house.
All in all it promises to be another interesting summer on Ibiza.

Expect to see further growth in the burgeoning private villa party sector,
which the police have no power to stop...

But its not only Space and DC10, but also Bora Bora that`ll be closed till 4:30PM, or am I wrong?
What a mess...
This year its gonna be my first year @Ibiza!
And Bora Bora and Space are the parties i was so looking forward to...
Lyin` in the sun and behind you great tunes @ Bora Bora!
Ibiza is so famous for After-Hour clubbin, but with that restriction to come its over with the fame and magic:x

I think people are confused, if the club/afterhours does not open the night before, the next day can open to 12pm hassle-free ((Because the local takes 10 hours closed)

See you every monday of the summer @ DC10 - 12.pm :)
See you at Space every day of the summer at 8O 6.pm 8O :?::?: :cry::cry: please not on satudays & sundays !!:cry: please 12.pm. 8O

Did you go to church?

bora bora is a beach bar/restaurant that happens to play annoyingly loud repetitive music to everyone in a 20 metre radius on the beach ;)
