yo JohnJohn, where you hear that? liking this exceptions rumour lol 8)

the exceptions rumours stem from josep mari ribas (san jose major) who said (with regard to the new law passed on the 4th):

but there could be small adjustments if needed by the council and that it would allow [clubs (my emphasis)] to apply for exceptions for certain/special days.

i read it that its much the same way that pubs & bars can apply for extensions on NYE for example

but as usual the original comment gets the "tabloid" treatment ;)

I read this although Space and DC10 were quoted so I thought maybe or hopefully something new had been released 8)

when anyone talks about the san jose after hours ban you're realistically only ever going to be talking about space and DC10 - what other venue would you quote? ;)

you're also assuming that san jose council is going to backtrack and announce to the press and local residents that although the new laws were passed by vote last week, they [san jose council] decided to go back, have a new meeting and a new vote and new definition of the laws ;)

and change them..

right.... ;)

i hope this doesnt sound obvious but they are passing local laws in exactly the same way a local council in the uk, will and do, change local by-laws etc (licensing or otherwise) -

its the same drawn out political process

it just gets a bit more press when its done here ;)

(unless you're a granny in middle england who had been banned for cleaning and tidying up their local roundabout by the local health & saftey police ;) )

so there will be no exceptions then? 8) this is what I was refering to from what others had wrote.

if you break that seal without approval - you get f****d ;)
like it happened the other night to the owner of salón tropical in figueretas ! !

according to UH, the local police went to a music bar in c. galicia to check if they were respectig the seal on their music equipment. not only it was broken but also a very aggressive guy from ecuador was insulting them and even instigating others to attack them too (i can imagine it..... come ooon guys, lets fight for our right to party, lets beat the poliiice 8O:lol:8O). needless to say, the poor idiot was arrested :!:

the only music bar in c. galicia is what used to be cafe central, since last summer turned into the latin music bar salón tropical so there you go.....

 san josé approves the norms that will end with the after hours
"san josé, the municipality with the three main after hours on the island, approved last night its norms to regulate the opening and closing hours which will force them to close during six hours (6 till 12 in the morning)"

"the disco association of the balearics, who also did present allegations to the new publicity rule (approved yesterday too), wanted lower fines but they obtained the opposite. there will be fines from 600 to 600.000€"

3.000€ ---> 600.000€..... thats what happens for complaining ! !

After-hour Laws

After all the recent promises San Jose finally passed new legislation last week which will ensure discotheques and bars will have to close for at least six hours from 6a.m. starting this summer. The subject of "after-hour" clubs has been a hot topic of debate over the last few months, as the different institutions try to find the best solution to control this sector of the tourist industry. Ibiza has recently become known as the island where you can party continuously 24 hours a day, due to the fact that some of the major clubs now open just as the others are shutting their doors. This has caused the island to gain a reputation which is unsuitable for the more family based tourism it still heavily relies on.

San Antonio was the first municipality to pass legislation restricting the opening hours of bars and clubs. San Jose has now followed suit, an important development considering that the three biggest "after hour" clubs are all found within the municipality.

The mayor, Josep Mari Ribas, said all bars and clubs would now have to remain closed from 6a.m. until 12noon. He said the legislation had been agreed to ensure continued co-existence between all types of tourism within the municipality. He said they had tried to coincide with the legislation agreed by San Antonio to avoid any misunderstandings, and also that he had not ruled out some tweaking of the regulations during the summer to ensure they were having the appropriate effect. The maximum fine for breaking the new law was also increased to €600,000. ..."

Ibiza Town is set to go a stage further and is hoping to soon unveil new regulations which will prohibit music bars from opening before late afternoon.
change of plans:

 ibiza town determinates that after hours will have to close from 6am till noon
"the norm, which could be approved in the next days, is less restrictive than what they previously announced and will be similar to the ones in the other municipalities"

in the meantime, from tomorrow there will be another after hours in town.....

I think they should have made the closure time 8am. I mean, would it really have made that much of a difference for what they want to achieve? The thing that sucks about the 6am closing time is that people usually get to the club around 1am, and the party doesn't really start get going until about 2am, leaving only 4 instead of 6 hours of prime time.

amnesia, es paradis, eden, privilege, el divino & pacha all close at 6am (or are supposed to ;) ) - their closing times havent changed

the point is that space can open at 12 noon and now has to to shut at 6am the next morning instead of 10am - before hand they could open at 2pm and shut at noon the next day etc (you had to shut for 2 hours in a 24 hour period)

space can open and close whenever it wants as long as its not between 6am and noon

the owner and an employee go to jail.....

 nine months for not respecting the music sealing to the owners of a bar in figueretas
"for resistance to the authority"

 the chaos could have brought us all to the ruin (jose manuel bar, ex-government delegate)
DDI - did the imposition of the closings mean a turning point?
JMB - probably. we initiated a way but we knew clearly that we couldnt make it alone. we needed the support of other institutions and the citizen. there was a quite clear and firm attitude from everybody that made possible to take those measures. we tried it with the dialogue but the answer was unequal. while some were controlling certain situations it seemed others simply were benefitted from that no-control
DDI - were the fined venues (amnesia, bora bora and dc10) the less interested in collaborating?
JMB - they didnt get the message. they thought they could continue with the same dynamic but they cant
 we wont hesitate to close clubs if needed (sofia hernanz, new government delegate)
DDI - what do you think about the agreement between the town halls to regulate the opening hours of the clubs?
SH - i am sure the mesure will help to reduce the consumption and selling problems that exist around those venues, same with public order and trouble involved.
DDI - will you close any club this year?
SH - in the matter of drugs we are going to apply the law firmly continuing the line started, in the right way, by the previous government delegate.

different people, same ideas.....
