Michael Jackson dead?

I think it's fine.

She looked like a really well rounded girl to me...and her emotions flowed like that of a very healthy 'normal' person (whatever 'normal' is). It certainly wasn't a performance anyway! More a genuine and therapeutic display of grief and public declaration to her father's memory.

I imagine she felt immensely supported rather than pushed.

I myself thought she seemed pretty normal too, maybe due to the fact he tried to get them to live a normal life?

My opinion:

Michael would have wanted this memorial. it was inmense, beautiful, tearful (yes i did cry coz MJ was my idol since i'm a kid). He was a king and a king deserves a memorial like this.
Paris said the truth, she's young but i hope her words will make people who think MJ was a pedo that he wasnt and was loving and caring.

Brooke Shields made a speech that put a tear in my eye.

I shall miss him but his music and love for us, the world, the childrens, the parents, the poor, the less poor and everyone in the world from all religions, cultures, will be present forever.

REST IN PEACE M.J

when George Harrison died, we didn't get all this grief porn crap thrust down our throats day after day after day - 100% dignity from the family.

can Michael Jackson's sycophants accept he had his flaws, and can his detractors accept he wasn't convicted of anything. Simple.

and can the media PLEASE just talk about something else? the bird with the eyebrows if necessary, but no more Jackson PLEASE.

You don't have to watch it!

I felt Princess Di was grief porn because I didn't connect with it in any way.

This is a tad different - the guy was a fantastic musician and a big part of our generation.

He's not a mate or a family member but he's a huge figure who suddenly isn't around any more. Aside from celeb worship for celebrity's sake (which agree is yawnsome) it does kind of make you aware of your own mortality. This reminder can be a challenge for some.

...and of course the music industry does have something to celebrate/grieve.

So, I don't really think it's inappropriate or bad taste.

Understand you personally may have had a t!ts full though. It is pretty much everywhere.

I cried like a baby from start to finish . I wasnt planning to watch it but it was on when i got home so i thought why not. Very moving tributes from everyone involved but one that thing that annoyed me was the oldest son chewing gum smacking his chops everywhere, wanted to slap him down and have a word and remind him where he was.

Also thought Mariah's performance was poor, her voice 'warbling' seems to have deteriorated  and doesnt seem as strong anymore.

I'm sorry Olly but there NO way that you can compare the death of Michael Jackson to the death of George Harrison... wise up.

I deliberately drew the comparison because you're talking about someone who was a comparable star and equally successful and yet George Harrison's death was treated with great dignity by his family and the greater public alike and wasn't turned into a huge voyeuristic media circus. Proof that we don't HAVE to collectively lose our marbles whenever a famous person dies.

i thaught exactly the same thing - but then i saw (when usher had finished his song)
that this rotten old fart (michael´s father), who was sitting next to the son,
was doing the same thing ... so it´s not the son´s fault (too young) - blame it on the old bloke.

... Also thought Mariah's performance was poor,
her voice 'warbling' seems to have deteriorated  and doesnt seem as strong anymore.
... and the movements of her hands were ridiculous

True! Harrison was a big musician but...MJ was just so talented and he rocked my youth (im 23...) i danced on Black or White, thriller alone in my living room when i was 10 while my parents where still at work... I was saving up to buy a tix to one of his last shows and now...nothin...

R.I.P MJ

Jackson is in the record books because thriller is the biggest album ever. The Beatles collectively over their career, however, sold more music than anyone else ever. Fact.

Admit it...you dont like MJ and you prefer the beatles.

Its just diferent for me! MJ was the greatest entertainer in the world, we are not talking about numbers, but about his music, his talent, his love for the world!

If you wanna talk about numbers...how much did Harrison gave to charities compared to Michael?!!!

statistics can me manipulated tho

Beatles had 13 studio albums
Jackson 10

going on those into the 1billion (beatles) and 750m (mj) albums sold - makes them pretty even

Jackson sold circa 750m albums

taking the beatles solo
McCartney is circa 100m
the other beatles don't reach that

numbers can be made to mean anything

it is of course difficult comparing pop stars from different eras with completely different backgrounds, especially when both have enjoyed stratospheric success, but for me, the beatles will always be number one, because nobody else since, has managed to produce such a consistently brilliant range of music, lyrics and sounds.

Jackson came from a motown background, conquered pop, inadventently pioneered music video as we know it and helped to establish Black America on the map, but without Quincy Jones I strongly doubt he could've done it... I would say that as an allround package, he falls short of what the beatles achieved even though his sales figures and universal recognition factor are obviously breathtaking
