This is a simple warning!
If you come to Ibiza and you rent a house be extra extra vigilant
or you will be robbed, ransacked and trashed!
Non Spanish people living in or renting property are targeted.
We had been here many years on holiday and saw no crime.
We came to live here in Sept 2007 and again, in the hotel - no problem -
we rented an apartment in a block with security - no problem.
In January we moved to a rented house in the country near San Carlos de Peralta -
then we were burgled by a tidy robber who carefully selected my wife
irreplaceable little bits of Jewellery and my watch because I left a door unlocked
by mistake.
Insurance will not replace the items as far as we are concerned ...
you cant replace memories.
So, you cant be struck by lightening twice we thought.
So, after barricading the house like a fortress we took some relatives to the airport
and 2 hours later returned home to find that we had been burgled with a vengeance -
trashed and ALL our remaining jewellery, cameras, watches, lighters, "store cards" -
no use to any one - were gone.
they ripped off a louvred screen at a bedroom window and forced the sliding double
glazed panel open - the Guardia Civil - pathetically useless,
did not even attempt to question neighbours for evidence of a sighting at the house
in the 2 hours we were away - shrugged and walked off claiming we "must have left
the window open" - they seemed bemused by the obvious forced entry marks
on the frame.
In fact they proved the window could not be forced from the inside (?) and then
were so surprised when we pointed out that you could force it open
from the OUTSIDE!
As I say BE AWARE this is NOT a nice crime free place it is rife with
Latin American illegals, East Europeans and the inevitable desperate addicts
looking to fund their next fix.
We have been told that we are considered wealthy simply because
we are not Spanish...
Laughable given that here the local people are probably wealthier
than your average UK counterpart.
Black money, tax avoidance, illegal property rentals all contribute to a culture of greed .
A sad end for a life we had planned to make for ourselves here.

Ibiza used to be very safe indeed but now, since the eastern European,
(Romanian in particular) the island has become a no go area......
these criminal are very organized and come to your home or even hotel
and rob you.........they are very violent and target mainly people with small children
in the middle of the night in their own villas using violence.
So be very aware, do not wear expensive jewelery and no flashy cars,
they follow you studying every movement and then, at night, come and terrorize you
and your family.
Be aware.......you have been warned

My Daughter has just phoned me from Ibiza.
Her and her friends were staying in a Villa.
My daughter is very security conscious and a very sensible experienced traveller.
Arriving home after a night out at 3am they disturbed theives robbing their villa.
They left behind drills and tools used to access their villa as they,
what they thought adequately secured their possessions in the villa.
They were concerned for their safety so did not burst in on the thieves.
Once the thieves had been disturbed they took off leaving tools etc.
They had gone through absolutely everything.
Unroled socks, underwear, clothes and stole Passports, credit cards, wallets,
designer sunglasses, perfume and my daughters Laptop.
It is the loss of the sentimental possesions that bring us all to tears and disapointment.
My daughter has been travelling for almost 2 years and had her back up disc
of images in her laptop bag, packed ready to fly out at 6am.
They took the lot.
As she reassured me through tears on the phone she was safe and not hurt.
So please read the reply that explains how they target non spanish people on the island.
Seems the Police are of no help what so ever.
I hope this helps one other person not loose possessions that matter
and are not inconveninced by replacing these items.
