The Diario ibiza site is not working for me I am getting the red adblock warning page telling me to allow the site which I have but it still keeps coming up: Any idea what to do? I have even disable adblocker but still pops up the red screen. :(

yeah "turismofobia" is becoming a massive issue here - the ayuntamiento are taking the fight to AirBnb.

this issue is not gonna go away - it's forcing a lot of people to ask some difficult questions

the difference though I guess is that BCN has more options in terms of diversifying tourism and spreading it out, whereas for IBZ the choice feels more extreme because of the geography and extreme nature of supply/demand

i was watching the news on tv after lunch and i was surprised when they started talking about the turismofobia and metioned barcelona + the balearic islands + the basque country... did i miss something?! well, it's official: the turismofobia has arrived to the balearics too...

the guys doing it Arran are affiliated to CUP which is a revolutionary marxist political party currently propping up the Catalan government! to what extent it reflects wider public opinion on this subject I don't know but some people fear a return to the basque kale borroka protests in the 80s/90s - which was basically ETA activists burning bins on the streets in Bilbao. will be interesting to see if this is just a few kids letting off steam in the hot weather or whether there is something deeper going on....

but specifically on tourism, in my barrio there is "tourist go home" graffiti everywhere - although I think it is seen more as surrealist than terrorist so far!

When our minibus approached San Antonio last week we saw sprayed on a wall 'Go home Tourists'. Wonder if that is the general feeling among the locals of San An or just some disgruntled person who doesn't like outsiders? o_O

I'd say that a lot of the locals just think that the island has reached saturation point in terms of tourist volumes on ibiza. no one thinks there shouldn't be any tourists, but the sheer mass is tiring and then of course some of the holidaymakers' behaviour isn't exactly what the locals wish for

I stupidly got involved on a La Vanguardia facebook thread on this whole subject yesterday. people calling me a "comunista" and "perroflauta" or telling me to "go home".
