Ibiza to Sant Antonio Road

If you are looking for a solution for the ''Death Road'' problem, a train could be an option because it reduces car traffic, specially by tourists and at nighttime drunken drivers. A 4 lane highway does not make traffic more safe.

i see, but a train is also very dangerous for drunken people at night...can you imagine 3000-10000 people goin drunken with the train from amnesia/privilege station.... :?:

Re: road

Yes. Did you ever watched the sunday tv news after Ajax-Feyenoord or such big event with hooligans? The police then even uses horses to drive the audience into the coaches.
Beside that in Amsterdam they already have a slow finish closing regime, so that not everybody is trhown out in 30 minutes. This really works.

I do not think a train will replace most of the current traffic, but it is a better investment than a 6 lane highway (see the ibiza sun for the latest about this).

Everything Can Be Negotiated About The Sant Antoni To Ibiza Road Plans.
Stella Matutes, the PP Conservative Consell Island Government Roads Minister, has said this week that everything about the plans to improve the Sant Antoni to Ibiza road can be negotiated with other political parties & the residents on the island who are affected by the changes as well as with the big discos along the road & with any other interested 3rd party. This apparent complete about turn of Stella's is a clear recognition that the situation has changed since the Madrid Central Government, who will pay for the road improvements, became PSOE Socialist & as opposition on the island to the super highway plans Stella initially presented has grown beyond all expectations.
(more than 10.000 signatures - McR)
Now the road is possibly not even going to become dual carriageway along all its length. Instead it will possibly be made slightly wider with lots of safety features added & lots of roundabouts to help slow down the traffic & to ease the access & exit from the main road by the numerous residents who live along the road &, of course, by those people attending the 2 big discos in Sant Rafael.
There are also suggestions by local PSOE politicians, apparently supported by Stella, to put up walls along each side of the road in the area of the discos as an barrier to stop people leaving the discos & walking onto the main road as can happen at the moment & disrupt traffic or, as has happened in the past, cause a fatal accident. The PSOE politicians argue that the improvements to the Ibiza to Sant Antoni road must be carried out to improve the road for road users not to solve the problems of the big discos that, the politicians seam to suggest, break the laws on legal capacity & closing times :!: . Stella supposedly agreed with this argument but added that the discos were legally operating businesses & their needs had to be addressed to the same degree as any of those other businesses & residents who used the road or who was affected by any planned changes.
Later in the week, Jose Sala, Mayor of Sant Antoni & new Minister in the Consell Island Government, also said that the road plans were open to change & for a compromise to be reached between all those affected by the road. Sala went on to say that he had always thought that the initial changes announced were "over the top"
(obviously he didnt say that before the elections - McR) but he did think that the road should be made a dual carriageway all along its length. Sala also said that he favoured making to underground passes so that traffic could reach the new Monte Cristo industrial estate, the island's fire station, the Hyper Centre shopping complex & Amnesia disco safely & easily. He also said that the other underground as should be through the village of Sant Rafael so that the traffic could avoid the village & reach the other big disco easily as well as turn off towards Santa Eulària. However, Sala did admit that the planned road changes had to benefit everyone & that the emphasis should not be on the discos only.

UK Government Supports Sant Antoni To Ibiza Motorway Plan.
The ambassador of Great Britain in Spain, Nick Kay, visited the island this week & apparently fully pledged his governments support for the Balearic Government's new road plans for the Ibiza to Sant Antoni road. Kay apparently based his arguments on the need to improve the safety along this road for the thousands of young clubbers who use the road each night in summer to reach the 2 big discos in the middle of the island. Kay said his government would be pressuring for the proposed 6-lane motorway with its various multi level junctions & tunnels to go ahead as soon as possible. (ibiza sun)
