The Prodigy Make It A Birthday To Remember
What a night! Some will hail it the best Ibiza Rocks gig ever, others one of the greatest Ibiza moments of all time - we'll just say it was one hell of a way to celebrate our 5th Birthday and a night that will go down in Balearic folklore.
It all began with returning favourites South Central warming up the throngs who'd managed to get their hands on the sought-after tickets, but it was the child of the Brighton-based duo's agent who stole the show - leading the crowd in various dance manoeuvres to the electronic beats.
Radio 1 DJ and Bestival founder Rob Da Bank then took charge of the decks, giving us an intriguing insight into his eclectic record collection with a stunning leftfield set including some rave and d'n'b classics.
Before the main attraction arrived Da Bank was joined by resident Doorly as they went back-to-back on tracks, whipping the crowd into a frenzy ready for the arrival of The Prodigy!
It was then time for Essex's finest to treat us to an extended festival-long show complete with the all the big hits and the big beats we've come to expect from them over the years.
The band were in exuberant form, Keith and Maxim in typically energetic moods and the crowd feeding off them throughout. As they ploughed through tune after massive tune it was easy to see just why they are still perched at the top of their trade after almost twenty years on top.
Not a soul left the Ibiza Rocks Hotel without the belief that they had witnessed something very special indeed.
At the Es Paradis After Show the celebrations continued into the early hours as bands from the past five years were spun by the residents Colin Peters, Nicola Bear and Grainger while Rob da Bank headlined.
Five years on and Ibiza Rocks looks in finer fettle than ever - so here's to the next half decade!
Next week Dizzee is back in town, time to go bonkers...
