Global Gathering 2011

At the end of the day, this is a forum of opinions. And there are some very strong opinions here. Most of us tend to disagree. That's good, it makes debate.
What I never like (as a personal thing) is my own opinion completely discarded by someone else. Every opinion has a merit, and should be considered. [/rant]

Having known of Global for the last few years, I say this line up is it's best. I can skip over the main stage. I'm happy for tinie, etc to play if it means I get to see some of the other DJs that a cheaper tickets or lower capacity venue would of afforded.
Same goes with Creamfields, I think this year is their best line up too.

What you said about opinions is totally right - debate is good!

You think that about Creamfields?? I totally disagree. Having said that, we prob have wildly differing tastes in music, so we are bound to disagree...can i ask who you are really into seeing who are at Creamfields?

There is one fundamental issue in this forum. There are those that love house and techno. There are those that know how to define this music into what is and what isn't and there are those that love other forms of dance music which claims to be house or whatever but is not, it is pop music, yet they think it is because they are told so by the artists (e.g. Swedish house mafia has nothing to do with house). No-one has a problem with different taste it makes the world go round...

Just know that your music is pop music and the second it enters the same sentence as house or techno it becomes classed as shi*t.

That is all :)

The perfect statement! 8)

my views are fairly well documented on these sorts of mongfests - really not too much to add.

I imagine that if I were to ever go to an event like that I would return home afterwards in a catatonic state

I agree with Andy. Look at the lineup from 2005 http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=6630 - all dance and no commercial tosh.

GG are selling out IMO. Gonna attract shedloads of scally kids (even more than it used to :spank: )

Becki, do you not think that 'dance' music in the form that you are referring to is simply not as popular as it used to be with the younger people coming into the 'scene'.

I certainly believe that is the case. And i don't reckon a line up like that first GG (which i was at actually) would sell out a 2 day festival in 2011.

If we like it or not, the 'true' forms of dance music are simply not as popular with the younger people as they were. This is proved by how popular those that sit on the fringe of dance/pop - Guetta/Tiesto/SHM etc are currently..

Everyone is out on site and my work mate has abadoned me :( so my only entertainment is you lot

I just had to make myself a cuppa because i was near on dying of thirst, i mean wtf is that all about

well i hope we are entertaining you Ms Zee :p

want me to dance for you 8)

oh and milk no sugar for me thanks ;)

the kids don't have a clue. they don't know what house music is and they would rather inhale balloons than pop Es

they're therefore beyond hope - and I wish to spend as much time with them as I would in a dental surgery

No it's that everyone grows up and out of that sh*t music.

GG have decided they will earn more money catering for the younger ones.

Pop music has always been popular with younger people than 'true' dance music, nothing has changed .. the only thing thats changed is the market GG are aiming at.....

And as for Tiesto anyone over 21 that has listened to his latest catastrophe with Busta Rhymes that is not in the agreement that this complete and utter SIN is not the most darkest horrific torture on the ears, must be immediately castrated.

GG shouldn't be helping to make this sh1te more popular, they should not sell out, it just proves they are money grabbing tw@'s who don't care about real dance music.

true that peoples musical tastes change as they get older.

They have decided to earn more money by aiming at a younger market.....they have to aim at a younger market cos that is who goes, in the main, to these events.

The people with good musical taste who attend and will be listening to Cox/Hawtin etc get to do that cos the more commercial bookings allow the budget for the festival to allow these excellent underground bookings.

Its a non issue anyway - people will either go or won't go. Those that do can choose to listen to whoever they want to. If someone buys a ticket to see Tempah and he smashes it then they are happy, if someone buys a ticket cos Hawtin/Cox/Beyer are on and have the biggest grin ever when Hawtin plays Spastic then they are happy too. There is a choice for everyone at these things
