Getting to/from Ibiza latest info

I think there will be some major push back from the travel industry if it goes to red, given the recent fiasco with Euro 2020 travel. If popular holiday destinations go to red, people will cancel their holidays and the government will need to bail the airlines out

While I do agree, the government have shown very little by way of listening to the travel or hospitality to date..

The problem is that if they are even considering moving it to red, they could do it at very little notice which causes a mad scramble to get home and you’ve paid for flights and a holiday you don’t properly get
By now anyone booking a holiday should be well aware of the risks involved.... and I Say that with someone who has a holiday booked next month

How do you think amber will affect the general tourism for Ibiza? Will it drop dramatically, or will enough people be double jabbed so it's not a massive hit? O beach and the like have been looking pretty busy and obviously some outdoor events were starting, will these still be busy?

I'm hoping to come mid-September, but have a holiday planned for 30th July, which I may change to Ibiza if our country doesn't go green, but the worry it could go red before i'd be back is real..

I fly Monday and come back Thursday so that is pretty nerve racking. It’ll have changed by Wednesday morning. I’ve heard they don’t tend to move countries from green to red unless there is another variant. I genuinely think the travel guy on Twitter is scare mongering. I also think Ibiza will get a bit quieter just because a lot of the younger people will not have been doubled jabbed yet.

Not as much as it would have done a month or so ago. If you are double jabbed the Amber status doesn't mean anything now, and 66% of UK adults are now double jabbed (you do have to wait 2 weeks after the 2nd jab for the exemption to apply though)

Of course OBeach and similar venues have a younger crowd who won't have been offered the 2nd jab just yet, but we are also at the time of year college and Uni students have left for the Summer and many will just take the hit of 10 days quarantine.

FYI - new ferry service from mainland run by an Italian company - albeit probably of minimal use to most on here!

I was about to book our trip but with the new likely curfews/restrictions, now wondering whether to delay. real dilemma

I've been very optimistic and hopeful that my trip on Thursday 19th August would still be going ahead but even I am now starting to feel doubtful about getting over this year!

It looks almost definite that Ibiza is going onto the amber list from tomorrow and if things don't stabilize who's to say that it won't then end up going red slightly further down the line!? It's then another 5-6 weeks of my summer where rather than using my leave and making the most of the nice domestic weather and doing a staycation I'm staying in and waiting for a holiday that might not come to pass!

That's also without considering what further restrictions might come into play on Ibiza too.

It's to be expected but it is incredibly frustrating trying to plan for a holiday at the moment! 😔

While all the news seems bad - and Ibiza possibly going amber certainly is, surely it's just wait for every adult to be vaccinated - https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/07/84-of-new-coronavirus-patients-were-not-vaccinated-rivm/ suggests that
Just 6%, or 2,562 of the 42,000 people whose vaccination status is known, said they were fully vaccinated at the time of their test.
and if they tested positive, the chances are they weren't actually ill, and if they were, just mildly?

So as far as travel goes, I can't see why those fully vaccinated can't travel to and from green/amber areas without PCR/LF tests. Anyhow, I would be happy if the whole of the EU/UK simply banned leisure travel across borders until January, and by then almost all adults should have been offered the vaccine, so let's travel unrestricted BUT those refusing the vax should go through testing protocol.

I know it wipes out the rest of this year, but it's such a palava I certainly can't see myself "enjoying" time abroad, and also worry about - despite being fully vaxxed - still getting covid and being forced to isolate over there.

Actually I'm very interested, as a one-off I wanted my (now very post-retirement) special trip to be first class London/Barca on the train and ferry over to the island and back.

Obvs covid finished that for me, but I'm hoping Manchester > Paris, Paris > Barca, Barca > Ibiza and then either fly home or return the same way.

Think it's also possible to do London > Barca in a day? Anyhow that's now some time off, hopefully between then and now I can find a companion to enjoy the trip with me. he or she will have to have a few bob though - but advance first's aren't all that expensive.

if you check some of the older roadtrip to Ibiza threads there's some good info in there. I did it myself in 2010 with 2 stopovers. Absolutely loved it.

London > BCN (sea/land) traditionally would've taken 2/3 days but I think you can do Paris > Perpignan TGV in a few hours now, but sadly I think they have discontinued the old motorail now, where you could take your car on the back of the train! Doing the whole thing in one day might be ambitious...

I'm strictly ferry only now so I'll report back on that part
