Donald Trump....

From a book I'm reading, New York Days, New York Nights. by Stephen Brook - 1984.
It used to be said that if Walter Cronkite ran for President,, he'd win hands down: and that seems entirely possible.
A popular news man, he could read the autocue, people trusted him. How things have changed.

No doubt many of you have seen this already, but you really couldn't make this shit up... He can remember how nice the chocolate cake is he was eating, just not what country he was bombing. This is a weird interview.

No offence but not me, guys a bit of a nob but I never protested against Robert mugabee Vladimir putin bashar al assadd George w bush Saudi Prince amongst others who have visited with far worse track record. Our very own Tony Blair was far worse and hardly anyone pipes up about him with all the blood on his hands.
So although he’s not to everyone’s taste I think the majority of people who are protesting are right to protest but hypocritical none the less .
Obama’s deported more illegal immigrants than any other president before him but he doesn’t get much said about him. So in my eyes people need to be consistent and not jump on the bandwagon.
Cue backlash.

protesting is pointless anyway. he thrives on being hated + he'll see it as vindication of a more isolationist path which is the last thing the world needs. the way people deal with Trump needs to be more sophisticated. perpetual outrage doesn't work.

I'm not either, but the guy's a **** on so many levels - from his treatment of women, to his environmental policies, to what's going on at the US-Mexico border. He's also a figurehead for the alt right, an ideology which does need defeated IMO, and his election has dragged political discourse into the mud. So good luck to anyone who is protesting tomorrow.

He will be playing golf maybe a 30 minute drive from me.

the onus is on the Democrats to find someone who appeals to small town America - a Bruce Springsteen type figure or an Arnie who cuts across the divide. someone who can channel Bernie Sanders in a way that doesn't scare the horses. that's the only way change will come. Obama had the charisma but fell short in loads of areas. now they need someone who can offer the substance too. otherwise we are all f**ked.

Bet they put Hilary up again. Never learn.
Great seeing Cynthia Nixon and the stuff she's saying in running for Governor of New York - abolish ICE, legalise marijuana (related to the number of people of colour incarcerated for weed), turning up at a rally with a coathanger referencing her mother's illegal abortion, it's a breath of fresh air.

Not protesting one thing doesn't mean you can't protest another. The crimes of the people you've named don't take away from Trump's own crimes. It's just 'whatabout-ery'. And it's not hypocritical - while there were protests against a lot of those people (including Obama), they were never that widespread/didn't get press coverage whereas there is much more awareness of this and media attention on it, and therefore more people are likely to attend. Combine also with the fact that people generally (and naively in my opinion) expect better of the USA, and have been completely horrified by what they've seen Trump do in office because it goes against their idea of the US as 'one of the good guys'. They're also an historical ally of ours, and to see someone so obviously supremely vile in that role elicits a reaction in people.

That being said, the idea of a Trump blimp in the sky and the ridiculous campaign to get American Idiot to number one is completely pathetic and the work of middle-class centrists. The guy is separating babies and children from their parents at the border but a big balloon, yeah, that'll really show him won't it.

I quite like the Trump balloon. Will be cool if they get it to Scotland to fly over his golf course.

The balloon does seem to piss a lot of right wingers off, from Nigel Farage to people I actually know.

it is hopeless and everybody knows it & the R congressional establishment aren't that much further down the cuntometer. Talking of which, this made me HOWL yesterday. Niven's on fire this week
