I am going to this event, but i'd still be going if it was just a Carl Cox event without the Space branding, so I agree with your point.
Exactly, Cox is enough of brand in his own name that he doesn't need to do this.
Before I first went to Ibiza, I used to look at pictures of Space, Amnesia etc in mixmag etc and wonder just what 'ibiza' was. There was no insta etc, so it was impossible to have any real expectation or pre-conceived ideas, maybe just some stories from some older kids in the pub that went a couple of years before.
Then you go, you take the disco bus from San An and arrive at what feels like the personification of hedonism. Pure joy. It was like experiencing a life without limits for a brief moment it time. Surrounded by people from all over. Then the morning comes and you have a wrist band slipped on your wrist for 10e of re-entry. You que up outside while they sweep the floor and go back in. What the f**k. Goosebumps thinking about it.
Then back to blighty. Back to your town or village. Just memories of a moment or place that could have all quite easily have been a dream. No trace, only your memories.
I think for everyone who was lucky enough to experience this time (and before) in Ibiza, we still associate these moments with our clubbing there, even as it has evolved dramatically. My point against reviving Space, is that it's symbolic of this point in time. Not to say any worse or better (though I have an opinion, just different). A unique experience before homogeneous club culture, Facebook and Tripadvisor.
When you first went to Ibiza, it was in search of something. Space was more than just a club, more than just music. It should be left to stand on its own, revered and mythologised, not bastardised.
