From the current status of the vaccine development, a full 2021 summer season should be possible. You don't need to get every person on Earth vaccinated in order to have parties again.
Of course we are talking about the summer of 2021 - the New Year is going to be rather quiet I think.

obviously everyone and their dog here on the balearics is hoping this is the case.
if those stage III tests go well (I think this is the main question/variable right now), then it's just a matter of producing, delivering, applying. but I'm also aware of how much could go wrong.

True. I just hope that there’s active planning on how a population level immunisation process will take place at pace. Speaking for the U.K, we don’t meet our targets on getting people in for routine cancer screening, nor over 40 health checks, nor flu vaccinations. So the precedent suggests it will take far longer than one might think. That’s unless huge efforts are being made behind the scenes. Suppose the vaccine is ready by January, could a ‘herd’ percentage really be vaccinated by the spring and holidays are back to normal in the summer?

If its ready in march , we will have a late season. Just a opinion and feeling.
The thing is : First doses are for older people , poilice , teacher or frontline workers. No idea how long it lasts for the rest.

I'd wait until we've got the full official info.
but - it really doesn't look good right now. with these restrictions, non-travel recommendations and quarantine rules, it's genuinely possible the entire summer season comes to an abrupt halt at the end of august. right now the island is actually busy, but it's very unlikely a lot of new tourists will arrive still unless the situation gets better.
personal view only obviously.

These are my thoughts. As things stood we've held out as long as possible (Due to fly next thursday) but i think it will be cancelled if this is confirmed. Too many people will cancel and it really would be dead.
There aren't exactly many options as some of our group don't want to quarantine so the options are really only Greece, Croatia & Turkey for a beach holiday. The first two have rising cases so may be touch and go whether they're added and, well Turkey doesn't inspire me at all.

They've all leaned now Spain, Italy , Croatia , myknos.?.. looks like Turkey will be pulling out all the stops to get there rave on next year all along the coast beautiful beachs, not built up , stuff being going on there for few years now and with Croatia probably off the list too next year it could be Turkey's Time...

Possibly, although Erdogan seems intent on converting Turkey from a secular state, so not sure how that will sit with it all.
Any info on how the places that did open faired? Did they turn a profit, or more likely limited their losses?
Just thinking next year if "normal" is back how many places will still be around?
