Weekend Plans

We went to the Birmingham NEC yesterday to look at Motorhomes. We’ve decided we’re going to get this https://www.auto-trail.co.uk/f-line
So, we’re now deciding if we go with the dealer finance or go with our bank. The plan is for next year taking a three week holiday and working our way to Ibiza.
Festivals will be lot easier, too!
I’d love something like that, but that would mean giving up my Ibiza holidays for the foreseeable and I just don’t think I could do it 🙈

You’ll have a great time travelling around I’m sure!

It was great sitting in it and imagining ourselves out on the road. Very exciting.

My dream! Bigups. Have all the fun in that.

During lockdown (when I wasn't arguing about epidemiology with Elrow Lovers on here), I would just sit there night after night watching youtube videos about people renovating old rusty VWs and turning them into mobile homes for digital nomads or featuring people dropping out completely. After 6 months cabin fever i was tempted too, but could never do it fulltime. I wdn't want to drive the massive motorhomes on the Pyreneean hairpin bends but would be good for a long distance to north coast i think.

*For hires (vans not motorhomes) i was really happy with Roadsurfer last summer. Not cheap but unlimited mileage and good service

Have you been away in one before? I only ask because when I hired one for the weekend a while back, it wasn't quite as imagined and put me off the idea of buying one. Not putting a dampener on your dream, but as it's a big committment, sharing my experience just in case.

That is an important consideration. We had been looking for somewhere we can rent the one we want but found it tricky. Doesn’t help when my wife is a teacher so we can only go during the holidays.
What we’ve decided is to put down a deposit on a new one which means we get the spec we want and it’s going to take like a year to deliver. In the mean time we can details sorted, storage, insurance etc. and have a little go over a weekend. Plus we pay off our car in October. So, it’s just the first cautious step . There’s no rush and as exciting as it is, it’s a lot of money to be committing to. But an exciting time.

I rented one from owners through Camptoo. Wasn't cheap - £450 or so for a weekend. Virtually brand new, didn't look disimilar to the one in your link.

I found it drove like a shed. I'd expected something worth about £130k to feel quite luxury, while understanding that of course, bigger vehicles rattle a bit more. Bear in mind I used to own a tankering company and have lot of experience driving 32T tankers with waste sloshing about in the back, and bigger vehicles than that too.

All the fixtures and fittings felt flimsy, like they might come off in your hand. I broke the latches on the awning, by turning them the wrong way, by hand, quite gently. Can't legislate for the missus burning the in-built picnic table by putting a disposable BBQ on it though!

I've searched my mails for the make we had, in case it's just that we got a rotter, but can't find it, I'm afraid.

I would deffo rent one before committing serious money. Again, not raining on your parade, but given I was 50% on 'let's just buy one' before we had that weekend, it's worth a thought.

Arrived safely in Argentina last weekend, currently at a cool cottage in el tiger since yesterday for three days. Spending time with the in-laws for the next 12 days but would appreciate some nightlife in Buenos Aires this next weekend. Feel free to provide any pointers!!!!

No Arsenal session tonight for my boy as the missus is out on a work do, so I have to pick my other boy up from school. Have promised to take them for pizza instead (still a downgrade for boy 1 as he normally gets pizza AND football). Sleepover in the cloud when we get home as per.

Saturday morning guitar lesson for boy 1, with boy 2 in tow, and then trek out to the wilds of Ilford to take on the runaway league leaders in our league.

Sunday morning - usual trip with the kids to pick up my sister, before heading to my folks. This time, however, she will have her bloke and luggage on board as they are staying at my folks for a week, while theirs undergoes some electrical work. I'm sure this will go swimmingly:D. While kids at my folks I'll be playing my 2nd footy match of the weekend, an over 35s Semi-Final - wish me luck!

Sunday afternoon - who knows? Parks - weather dependent, soft play or trampoling if it's cold or wet. The days are just packed!

I'm really looking forward to driving this weekend - just got my car back from the garage and after a week of borrowing the missus' shed of a Mini, my 5 year old Merc feels like the height of luxury

Note: I write these for myself as much as anyone else these days, so apologies about the lack of Berghain queue highlights, or plans to ingest clarkycat through my eyeball. Still love reading about other's shenanigans

The weekend starts right now for me.
Running as soon as I finish this message.
Shopping tomorrow with Madame J (why did i promised this yesterday 😅), we need a few things for the kitchen, then in the afternoon if the weather is OK a little hike in the hills around here.
Sunday morning running again, maybe a movie in the afternoon.
No booze, no party, ibiza is in two months, we need to save money and protect our livers, we're not that young 😂
Let's go! 🏃

I love you JM

Egg chasing tonight, off to meet a friend tomorrow, study/essay day Sunday. With bouts of fighting the fecking rat and/or fly issue under the kitchen floor. It’s getting silly, I’ve even bought a thermal camera to try and find what’s going on under there

Quiet one for me here! Weather isn’t supposed to be that impressive this weekend so will probably take the dog to the park to catch up with the regulars tomorrow. Will probably catch up with some work I’ve neglected this week and then get the chores done.

My parents have left me to fend for myself as they’ve buggered off on a 5 week cruise so I’m going to have to make my own Sunday lunch 😲
