Weekend Plans

They should all be getting the message out to as mamy people as they can. Social media is vital in getting thiings going viral and that means telling the truth to Russians on VPNS about mass murder by their government. The Russian govt are desperate not to let this get out.

Bit harsh - shes in a pretty tough situation I imagine now - being a Russian passport holder and still living in Russia when she isn't touring I imagine. Shes probably going to suffer because of the sanctions, directly or indirectly and I know first hand that Russians that do leave Russia and end up working in the West have a terrible time when trying to get back into Russia, as well as being hassled by security services when they are in the country.

Would you really put yourself at increased risk if you were here?

The level headed people around him would be frightened of Putin.
In a business if there was someone like Putin running the show the share holders would have that person out sharpish regardless if that person is right or wrong. However in Russia's case no one can get Putin out.

I worry that the more you push someone like Putin into a corner and squeeze him he will just bite back. Ultimately this is happening with Ukraine right now. I fear if the world continues to bully Putin he will continue his crusade and take extreme measures.

The art of war states "Never put your enemy into a corner".
True but we are talking about a man that has twice had the rules change so he could stay in power. I would say he's untouchable in Russia.

Your last question is a good one. I would like to think that if I had massive reach I would be out there making a noise. But yes we're lucky. Am guessing nobody on this forum has ever had to face this. Does she keep schtum because she's scared OR because she tacitly supports the regime? Who knows? All I know is there's a whole load of other normal people nobody knows risking their lives on the street. Is bringing her into it trivial? Isn't it just some shitty DJ? I dunno. I think it does matter. I think every famous Russian who has ever profited from the freedoms the West offers should be out there banging the drum. This is a whole new dimension now. This is an unpredictable megalomaniac and the only people who can stop him are the middle classes and the rich kids with money who enjoy those privileges. I also thought the Chelsea statement was revealing too. The same thing again. They refuse to call it for what it is. This is the dishonesty we're up against.

Maybe because they don't want to leave their house in the morning and wonder why the door handle was "sticky"? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like the world is cancelling Russia and Belarus. Amazing.

The International Ice Hockey Federation is tossing both countries out and FIFA/EUFA just banned all Russian football clubs from play.

Ukraine signed EU membership application, Finland and Sweden are apparently closer to joining NATO.

One of the big problems I can see with all the cancelling/sanctions etc is that it could push Russia over into a failed state.

No real opposition government and more importantly key institutions are hollowed out. Power vacuum. 🤷‍♂️

There's a solid opposition movement in Russia, it's just been harshly oppressed (see Navalny). There will have to be a substantive leadership changes made in Russian government for anything real to happen internally or have sanctions lifted.

I've changed my mind about Nina. Bollocks to her. Be interesting to see if her gigs in the US this weekend go ahead

Not boring at all. Interested in your perspective.

Also, anyone that understands Swift, am i right in thinking that if shut out of that, entire Russian economy would collapse overnight? I could imagine the Spanish for instance seizing a whole load of yachts, bars and other assets

This is where i think things could get quite scary if a cornered Putin starts lashing out. I also saw that Anonymous said they had intercepted Russian intel and hacked tv but they're anarchists so i dunno if they can be trusted?
Apologies buddy for the late reply, I’m working away with limited wifi.

I don’t want to go on too much as this is a holiday forum, and I come here for my good times.

I usually bore my missus to death criticising anything military related on a film or tv.

Watching how this has panned out it would appear Putin has about as much respect for his own soldiers as he does for the Ukrainians.

Things are turning nastier now, starting to remind me of the footage we saw from Syrian cities a few years ago.

Sending ill prepared conscripts into battle is a crime against his own nation in itself. The indiscriminate targeting of Ukrainian civilians should see Putin hung from a lamppost.

Can’t think of a word to describe how disappointing and depressing it is.

Sadly I think it will only get worse.

No one is pushing Putin into a corner, or in fact bullying him.

He chose this course action. Him alone.

The world should not sit down and let him threaten us with impunity.

Also, quoting Sun Tzu is a bit over and above really. I’ve gotten my knees dirty in some kinetic shitholes around the world and wouldn’t really quote the art of war to people.

The best way is to keep it simple, like Mike Tyson said ‘everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face’.

Well, the Russians just got punched squarely in the face by the Ukrainians.

They haven’t taken it well. Their mission, whatever it is, is falling flat and they are now doing what Russians do best in these situations. Which is spread suffering far and wide.

I have nothing but massive admiration for the Ukrainians and hope they can hold out.

Their president is an absolute legend in my eyes.

I’m proud of the how the rest of the world is uniting against Putin.

Had my best weekend for ages.

My boy was player of the day at his footy session on Friday evening and then aced his guitar lesson on Saturday. I enjoyed football more than ever on Saturday afternoon and we beat our top-of-the league local rivals. Proper ding-dong, 2-0 up at half time, went in 3-2 down. I, better known for crunching tackles and winning headers, scored an ablsolute worldy (c) @grego, on the volley from outside the corner of the box to make it 3-3. We went 4-3 down, then to 4-4 and then 5-4 up and with ten minutes left the opp ran out of legs, we scored 4 more to make it a playground score of 9-4. Oppositon were fuming and didn't follow the tradition of inviting back to their clubhouse for a drink - so I took us there anyway and took up the main table in the middle of the place:lol:

Sunday - kids had a lovely time at my folks and then I took the family for a nice walk around some woods and then a Sunday roast. Home in time to see most of the genuinely action packed Liverpool Chelsea 0-0 draw and the probably the first time a keeper has been brought on for pens, conceded 10 out of 10 before missing his team's 11th to lose the draw!

Aching today from Saturday's battle, but worth every twinge.

(Been keeping an eye on Ukraine situation, all the above is a welcome distraction. Selfishly thinking about Mutually Assured Distruction and whether it actually exists if the world allows madmen the codes for perosnal profit. That's how we got here, I think)
Your lads match sounds like the best game of football ever mate 😅

True.

But pretty much all of the cancellations or sanctions can be stopped or reversed.

All captain Tiny Dick needs to do is stop his military murdering Ukrainians.

Not defending him but Putin is a very intelligent man. The media of course love to tout that his plan isn't working but since when are they experts?.

If it was the other way around in this scenario you could almost count on the U.S to do exactly the same thing.
I actually believe Biden is a very dangerous and a clueless man at that, he just regurgitates what his 'woke' advisors put in his teleprompters. and I will say I am more worried about that guy than Putin.

Lets be realistic though throughout history there has been 1000's of wars and in the future there will continue to be 1000's of wars. Unfortunately that is the human race and if you have growing powers trying to take more and more then there will be other powers who are losing less and less inevitably trying to take back control. Russia will take Ukraine no doubt about it. After this what happens with relationships between Russia and basically the U.S will be ruined until someone decides its in the best interest to kiss and make up. life will continue and repeat.

Things will never change. Predictable and cyclical we are

Putin is pure evil. We were all in denial for too long. No excuses.

I've stopped doomscrolling. There's only so many articles about possible chemical warfare and nuclear armageddon i can handle

I agree with Antonio that we don't want the forum to get too heavy but at the same time it is very hard to switch off. It's only human. And the scale of this is so vast. It isn't faraway deserts anymore, it could be e europe, the baltics, moldova, scandinavia next..

I'll be out tonight for a few hours to check out a fave DJ (I-F) and escape from the world but generally speaking though, music, holidays, partying are all pretty far from my mind right now
