Too old for ibiza?

what are you waffling on about??:roll:

nobody was being ageist or expressing nonliberal views, as utagaura has said, it's just how different people feel about going clubbing as they have got older, nothing to do with over 40 or over 30 or over 50 shouldn't go out.

simply how tastes may change but also how some things remain the same.

as for not knowing the original car wash............ignorance is not exclusive to the young.

Exactly!

Think we may have to differ here... the 60's may of had music...that people danced to but it's a far cry away from what people are talking about on this thread when they are talking about the start of it all! Completely different scenes that I don't think compare whatsoever. People in this thread as I read it were referrring to the start of the 'dance music\house music' scene in THIS country with the acid house scene and warehouse parties... something infinitely different to what the 60's scene ever was! The start of House music as I know it and what I first heard started in Chicago at the warehouse with the likes of Frankie Knuckles. I'd argue you may have a point saying the 70's was the start of it all with 'disco' but not the 60's! The 60's may of influenced the birth of it all with some of the psychedelic rock of Pink Floyd.
Nah, I think Stephen's got it right. Of course, every generation likes to think we were first but the clubbing scene as we know it probably dates back even further to the jazz dances in American black communities in the early part of last century. Then you had the rock & roll and r&b dance scenes which hit a much broader audience and went global (and got roundly condemned by older folk... think of today's Ibiza coverage in the press), then disco and then house and its various offshoots. Of course, the music styles are different and the way we dress and go about our clubbing has evolved, but our generation really didn't re-invent the wheel.

I just think because we're talking about completely different genres of music I don't think you can compare them. Maybe they influenced the birth of another etc but I don't think it's the same. Rock n Roll's a far cry from Acid House?

i took my starting point of the clubbing scene as the time when people danced predominatly to records and not live music and when people start to dance without a partner. and hey presto that's the soul music scene of the early 60's onwards.

it had famous clubs and venues, big name dj's, people where there for the 'lurve' of the music, there were differnet genres of dance music, there was a big drug scene, there were all nighters, all dayers and weekenders, people who went out clubbing wore different style clothes to ordinary folk, and the words pink and floyd were never ever mentioned in the same breath as dance music.

the birth of house in chicago evolved from the city's rich musical heritage - jez check out some of the chess label's 60's roster - it didn't just happen on its own.

Les, if that is the comment that has gotten you so riled, then I apologise.

I only wanted to gague peoples opinions becuase the fact of the matter is, I am now "getting on a bit" and dont plan stopping my night time exploits for anyone.

I do however think you be slightly oversensitive about the subject... are you turning into a grumpy *** man? :p

i thought what you said was funny

I'm turning 53, wife 50 and don't care what others think of us when clubbing.
We should thank gays, in the US at least, who started clubbing as we know it. No wonder why parties like Matinee, Troya are very popular.
The advantage of being "old"; we get good seating in restaurants, glist in most clubs in Ibiza as we are big spenders, owners/promoters hand us drink coupons (Merci Pepe/Space, Francisco/Pacha).
I go clubbing because I like it, not to look young. I think those youngsters being annoyed by "old" clubbers are the ones with problems.

now i've heard it all! first pink floyd then the gays started clubbing as we know it. in 1964 when the twisted wheel was packed to the rafters with dance fanatics the gays were still sneaking around in public toilets!

i like this drinks vouchers idea though, one wonders why space isn't chock a block with cool 50 somethings with a scheme like that going on?

I love it when 30 & 40 somethings come clubbing - they tend to me much more able to have fun. Being grounded in yourself means you can be MUCH sillier.

I'm much more likely to get pi$$ed off with an 18-25 year old to be honest...that's not a recent thing either - I've always been like that (even when I was that age - go figure :?)

btw - the soul scene that you speak of is still very much alive in London. I have a dj friend from Manchester that comes down for the weekenders and they play nothing but original 7" pressings and the crowd varies considerably in age.

I think I met a bloke that was celebrating his 60th last time I went...and the atmosphere was great. I'd definately recommend it if anyone here likes original 60s soul & rare groove etc.

I just happen to know Pepe and some others.
As for the gay scene; forgot to precise it was in the mid 70's in the US with the disco.
Even at 53, still too young to be clubbing in the 60's

Then you may get your freebies cos you know him, not cos of your age. I find a bit strange what you said earlier about the restaurant tables and all that. Do you specify you age when you book a table?

The older you get the further away you will be from the average clubbers age. It's a playground for the young and young at heart and always will be.

There will always be someone who will think you're an old fart. Sod 'em i say.

Just don't try to dress like you're 18 forever, then even if you look older you won't look ridiculous

One things for sure, as soon as you start discussing "the origins of clubbing" whether you are old or not, you sure sound old!

It's not important

Very true:lol:

put it this way, i don't wanna be in a club with someone who can't see the funny side of horlicks/granddad jokes...............cos let's face it, everyone at one stage in their life has thought it.
I disagree. I'm with Les on this. Pipe down, you.

And no, everyone has not thought it. If I see an older clubber I think "cool. rock on!" and hope I'll still be kicking it in 20 years.

No way I'd be telling them to go home and have a horlicks or whatever else, and I wouldn't expect them to take such an insipid statement lying down.

This are your own words. You say you get good tables cos of your age, but now you say it's not important? What's not important? It's not important how do you get your nice table or it's not important to say your age to get your nice table? Moha, your "generosity" with words usually makes your messages a bit ambiguous.
