Too old for ibiza?

interesting to hear that a lot of you think you were around at the start of the dance music clubbing scene. if you were you'd be in your late 50's now! there was of course a scene in britain from the early 60's - all that has changed is the technology of how tunes are made, produced and played. everything else is more or less the same. everything you all talk about now - diferent style of clothes to normal people, big name dj's, choons, genres, super clubs and drugs was all part of life over 40 years ago.

Interested to see that being mid thirties may be an issue for my visit to Ibiza in Sept this year. Its funny really as without realising it I have already booked specifically to miss the July and August brigade!!! Just hope that I can still go the distance without chemicals to assist me. I know it may sound a bit boring but I just pace things a little these days and I can go the full 18 hour sesh.

what makes you think being mid30s is an issue?? it's not.:D

Right, watch out everybody...........I've been taking notes! 8O

(Had a huge reply to everyones post but didn't think anybody could be bothered to read it, so, this is the edited version..........no really!!!)

I am really suprised and sad to hear some of the attitudes and ageism expressed on this thread giving that this board is aimed at what is supposed to be the liberal free thinking island of Ibiza. Where are the open minded, free thinking people that I thought Ibiza was made up of? C'mon people.

Your soooo right Stephen!!! I first stepped on to a dancefloor in my local youth centre as an awkward, fumbling, slightly embarrassed schoolboy in 1965!!! 8O  Wilson Pickett, James Brown and similar Soul music was all the rage at the time in that particular youth club. We also had visiting Soul bands every Sunday night. It was my first introduction to the clubbing culture as it were.

Entered my first proppa nightclub in Nov 1969 (I currently hold a Saturday night residency in the same club 8O ) not as a clubber but as a roadie for a rock band (go on get yer calculators out  ) ..................and started DJing in the same club Jan 1977..........yep, thats over 30 years DJing! 8O

The current club owner is only 23 years old, last week I was playing Rose Royce - Car Wash from the 70s and he said "....is it not playing slow?" I said "no this is the original specifically asked for by a 40 something regular lady clubber." He said he thought Christina Aguilera's version was the original. Younguns today eh?

So..........lets see..........dancin' for 42 years 8O , not that I dance much these days (still no better than when I started  ).........nightclubbing for 38 years!!! 8O You younguns today just aint got the stamina  ..............and I dont use (or need) chemicals to keep me going!

......and I'm a grandad so there! :p :p :p

Ooh and here's my MySpace page too;

hmnn... thats great soulman... maybe I missed a few things.. but I didnt really see anyone being that negative towards the 'older' crowd!:)

I think a a lot of people are just concerned of how other (younger) clubbers view them when out clubbing!

what are you waffling on about??:roll:

nobody was being ageist or expressing nonliberal views, as utagaura has said, it's just how different people feel about going clubbing as they have got older, nothing to do with over 40 or over 30 or over 50 shouldn't go out.

simply how tastes may change but also how some things remain the same.

as for not knowing the original car wash............ignorance is not exclusive to the young.

I think a a lot of people are just concerned of how other (younger) clubbers view them when out clubbing!

Exactly!

Les, maybe you misread something. Is your eyesight failing as you mature??? :p

^^OK... I guess I glanced over this.. I guess I didn't realise it would be offensive!...but most of the people who replied to ths thread are 'older' clubbers who were just wondering if they look out of place on the dancefloor with all the teenies.

Is that not attitude and/or ageism against oneself?

Would you give up clubbing for fear of what other people think.

That's what I'm getting at, "I should give up clubbing because I will be xxxxx years old next month"

no, I wouldn't ever give up something because of what anyone else though... I may do it if I get bored or have other priorities.

In my post I never said I would give it up because everyone else was younger.. and even gave an example of my parents enjoying something with a group of people 45 years younger than themselves.

I don't think anyone is saying YOU or anyone else should give up clubbing...

My interpretation of the post was that Badger was wondering if we thought we would still be out clubbing in 10, 15, 50 years and if we will bothered by being surrounded by many many younger clubbers! ( and just wondering if they will think we are old farts who should stay at home!)

In fact, when I see a 50, 60 yrs plus person out clubbing I think 'yeeeeeah!!!.. I won't be the only one out on the dancefloor when I'm older!

I love the words " but I look younger" ....... when I am thinking to Space and DC10 Opening last year in June, I must say " I look and feel much much older" on tuesday ..... everything hurts .... my feets .... my legs .... my back :lol::lol: 15 years ago I do not have these problems

but (oncemore) I am still love to do clubbing

Think we may have to differ here... the 60's may of had music...that people danced to but it's a far cry away from what people are talking about on this thread when they are talking about the start of it all! Completely different scenes that I don't think compare whatsoever. People in this thread as I read it were referrring to the start of the 'dance music\house music' scene in THIS country with the acid house scene and warehouse parties... something infinitely different to what the 60's scene ever was! The start of House music as I know it and what I first heard started in Chicago at the warehouse with the likes of Frankie Knuckles. I'd argue you may have a point saying the 70's was the start of it all with 'disco' but not the 60's! The 60's may of influenced the birth of it all with some of the psychedelic rock of Pink Floyd.
