The footy !!

So he moved to Citeh because of the club's heritage and thought nothing of crossing from the club's biggest rivals?

I'm definitely no Utd fan.... far from it but a player that leaves to join the rivals who've just come into a massive amount of money, (neck scars or not) isn't exactly oozing class IMHO....

on the contrary, if you watched Tevez, you would see he oozed class in every department, so what of torres and gerrard when they move to join the Eastlands revolution in the Summer, will they be classless too? Liverpool at best now a top 6 side......deal with it!!!

You're missing my point.

The Munster child is ineed a classy player on the pitch but anyone who is playing at a championship winning side where he is adored by the fans who pay good money to watch him, buy the replica shirts etc. etc....

...isn't demonstrating an abundance of class off the pitch by trotting off the the nearest rivals where the money is, and champions league football isn't.

On current form, yes Liverpool are a top six side, but let's wait until the end of the season and see where we finish....

It's not exaclty the fiercest rivalry in football now is it? not as if the 2 teams have been fighting it out for championships. Even Fergie has just said today that city have now become a challenger.

More pertinently, Man U wasn't going to pay his transfer fee. City did.

Less to do with the player, more to do with the clubs.

I'm not missing it, Im just refusing to acknowledge it because it is without foundation. If you study the facts and listen to what the player said you would know that Tevez up to a point wished to stay as he was (as you rightly point out) loved by the fans, he's the sort of player that can only be loved because if his committment and style of play. after the Champs league footballing lesson, he said he felt marginalised and that he felt baconface was somehow blaming him, their relationship cooled, at the same time there was no sign of a deal/offer coming from the reds hierarchy, City, Liverpool and Chelsea all started licking their lips and prepared offers. City were probably the most persistent and probably the only ones who could show him that he was an integral part of what they wanted to do, as opposed to a bit part player at the swamp, also it made good sense as he and his family had become settled in "Cottonopolis". If you hear him talk even now he talks of his love for the man utd fans and of his mixed emotions should he score against them.I fail to see how after all that, joining City demonstrated a "lack of class" as you put it??

Whether bad judgement or bad advice made his decision, if he cared so much he wouldn't have crossed the city. It does come across as slightly naive not to think that he went where the biggest pay day was, and clearly put that ahead of his love for the fans...

Christ, am I really arguing for the hurt feelings of Man Urinals fans...??!!

I need a cup of tea....

Chelsea were more than able to meet his financial expectations and match our offer, as were Madrid.

As for rags fans, they are best rid of him!! (thats what they will tell you anyway)

You keep missing the damn point. HE HAD TO LEAVE BECAUSE MAN U WOULDN'T BUY HIM.

As I understand it, his choices were Man City or Chelsea (reportedly). Neither would have gone down especially well with the Man U faithful. Chelsea he probably plays less and has to move house. He's left with Man City.

Obviously it'd be naive to think that money is totally uninvolved. But I really just don't see how you can call him moneygrubbing and lacking class given his circumstances.

And here you've got me defending a Citeh player

p.s you got Sturridge for next to nowt anyway!!
You should have taken the 3 million when we offered it. Probably spent much of the .5 mil difference on lawyers and lost investment income

The extra 3 mil. based on appearances is fair. Just hope that doesn't mean we'll keep him on the bench all season :?

that was my concern at the beginning, that he would go from bench warmer to slightly better paid bench warmer, however given our current injury situation he would be enjoying a good run out now. says a lot about what bobby manc thinks of Jo and Caceido though that he hasnt bothered to recall either of them.

i thought it was £3.5m then £.5m when he reaches each 10/20/30/40 matches and £1m if called up for england full cap then 15% sell-on which isn't bad for a player who never really did much at city when we expected him to be the next big thing

it's actually sad that jammy's point is lost, an indictment of modern fan behaviour.

when nick barmby moved from everton to liverpool, most didn't like it. it was the principle of it, not who paid the fee, where he comes from, how many neck scars he's got, how hard he runs on the pitch, bla bla bla.......he should have known whatever happened at anfield he'd never be liked. the same if it happened the other way around.

guarantee tevez would never play for river plate, in no circumstances, what's the real difference here?

is it not rather small minded to brand the man anything other than just a professional footballer just because he went to a team in the same city?

Jam said Tevez is a "moneygrubber without class".

We were presenting reasons why his transfer was less about money and more about circumstances, alongside a couple of bits of his character, to argue otherwise.

Not sure what point's been lost along the way!

PS. ^^what JJ said

calm down calm down. ;)

i never branded him small minded, was simply saying that even in professional decisions, your values as a human being come into it. some people will go to a rival, some won't, that's all i'm saying.

jj - he chose city over chelsea or madrid, defo must have been about the money!!!
