The Footy... (2011-2012 season)

David Villa broke his leg in Japan. I hope he gets well soon. This is bad news for Barca and Spain. His move to the EPL will be postponed.

saw this in paper this morning. Didnt realise he was 30!!

Great player, hope he gets fit for the Euros!!

He may miss part of the Euro's and Spain will have trouble replacing him. They will need to find a goal scorer with Torres still in his slump.

Im not sure it will be too much of an issue, theres goals everywhere in that team.
Euros is still 6mths off!!

Champions League last 16 draw:

Lyon (Fra) v APOEL (Cyp)
Napoli (Ita) v Chelsea (Eng)
AC Milan (Ita) v Arsenal (Eng)
Basel (Swi) v Bayern Munich (Ger)
Bayer Leverkusen (Ger) v Barcelona (Spa)
CSKA Moscow (Rus) v Real Madrid (Spa)
Zenit St Petersburg (Rus) v Benfica (Por)
Marseille (Fra) v Inter Milan (Ita)

Hmm.... I'd fancy a trip to Napoli

Arsenal again failed to convert chances in front of the goal. They had chances against City but lacked the quality in the final third, except for that shot by Vermealen was cracking but was saved. The Arsenal fullback situation is dire.

Need to see the FA full report on WHY they found him guilty.

What he said is pretty much out in the open now but it seems that there's an element that's lost in translation.
The LFC statement is as close to "Go F*** yourself" to the FA as possible.

IMHO this could run & run.

On this basis though, JT must be bricking it...

could have been 8-4 to City

Man City bid 30m for van Persie. It's almost like Chris Morris is scripting this

They acquire players like I do Cricket bats :D

Anyone else hoping the Blackburn fans get what they deserve this season?

Say what you like about Kean's abilities, no manager deserves the level of abuse being directed at him on a daily basis. Watching Blackburn play at home as like a video nasty once the crowd gets going.

I read the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's call for his departure and to be fair to them, they levelled the blame at the owners, but there was no mention of the contribution the fans have made to the mess they are in this season. Sure, you pay money, you have a right to complain, but it has to be constructive.

Sorry Blackburn fans, I was actually hoping you would do alright this season to begin with.

A good article from Tim Vickery which more or less explains what I think on the matter

The defense held up better than earlier in the season

Good article, you wonder why some ex-footballers never get a chance to coach and other get numerous opportunities to c0ck up job after job.The ban will be reduced on appeal, I think? How much who knows?

This bit in particular struck a chord

English football can be proud of its anti-racism work but it should be remembered that what has happened in our country is a domestic dynamic. Mass immigration starting in the 1950s brought in hundreds of thousands of newcomers with full political rights - and so the discrimination they suffered could only be put down to racism.

Football made this sickeningly obvious. The Caribbean descendants who started to make an impact on the pitch from the late 1960s had to put up with all kinds of abuse. Over time a consensus formed around the belief that racist behaviour was unacceptable.

This dynamic does not necessarily apply elsewhere. In South America the legacy of centuries of slavery can make attitudes towards race more entrenched - but also more subtle. Elsewhere, to the east of Europe, for example, there has been very little exposure to the kind of multi-cultural existence that has become the norm in Britain.

This in no way invalidates the anti-racist position of English football. But it does mean that if the debate is to be won - and that surely must be the objective - then there are dangers in the moralistic holier-than-thou approach that the English can be prone to take.

This issue provides a real opportunity for English football to do some good - and also for the Football Association to improve its global profile. Much depends on how it is handled.

There is little to be gained in hectoring other nations and individuals with a moral high ground position of, "We're not racist, you are". Instead, there might be room for a position of leadership with a huge dose of humility.

What a nice touch to see Liverpool players with white Suarez 7 Tshirts on last night. Apparently they wanted pillowcases but it was too short notice

RVP has apparently just bought a house in alderley edge so watch this space
