The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Space defiantly raised the bar with their opening and closings. I would have thought now would have been a great time for Amnesia to try and match what space has done.

Amnesia just carry on with what they do, I think the best thing that came out of Space closing was it gave Privilege the opportunity to match what Space has done, and seems they did well, and they deserve it, Privilege is a brilliant club, and full with history, it was a shame to see the way it was headed

Is there no chance of Amnesia using the rear car area for an outside stage at their Opening/Closing parties??

Ok so i gave Hi another chance last night for In The Dark closing.

The positives are the sound has defo improved since June. Much louder and crisper.

The atmosphere is still not there. Compared to dc-10 on Monday it was so noticeable.

Also, the main problem was the music. I LOVE Voorn. I've never seen him play a bad set but yesterday he played the worst set of tunes ive ever heard from him. So generic tech house with breakdowns every 2 mins. It felt like he was dumbing down his music for the crowd. Luciano was EXACTLY the same. Average tech house and none of his usual latin tinged tribal tracks that build and build.. very dissapointed. I hope they aren't being asked to play this style? :(

As it is i dont think ill be going back.

Drops every 2 minutes is my pet hate at the minute, so tedious and boring
Can send me under remarkably quick

What's people thoughts on how Hi's first season has gone? I don't think there has been much of a buzz created by the place. Maybe its because it will always be in spaces shadow or because the place is a disappointment to people.

Wonder if they will change things next year?

Also, looking at the closing line ups, just makes you appreciate how class Space closing parties were. Pure special and I doubt anything will ever compare.

I think the Prydz gigs have made an impact as the lighting/production looked incredible. Though I personally didn't go as i'd already seen him in London earlier in the summer. I went to see Armin there and had a good night, but i'd say if it was a brand new club with none of the Space backstory, you'd have said it was great, but it was lacking the magic and the history of the old place.

As someone posted on here before (possibly Stivi but not 100%) they may have been better closing this year, taking more time renovating the club, building the buzz and letting memories of Space fade a bit. But on the other hand they'd have lost millions in revenue if they'd have done that, and potentially lost some of their headliners to other clubs.

I think they'll make more physical changes, Ushuaia has added incremental updates over the years, such as the FX towers near the stage, and they will no doubt tweak the lineups to adjust to what worked and what didn't.

One problem they will have is that EDM is declining from where it was a few years ago, with no new acts generating enough buzz to sell thousands of tickets week after week. The genre is still relying on the old timers like Guetta & Armin. And the club was rennovated with EDM (and its VIP element) in mind.

Aside from luring Calvin, Tiesto, The Chainsmokers or Deadmau5 over from America (and none of those seem interested in regular Ibiza dates at the moment) there aren't many big EDM sellers that aren't already tied in elsewhere on the island. They may try and shuffle some acts around with Ushuaia, such as Axwell/Ingrosso got downgraded from a residency to a guest spot this year, and they may try and refresh that as a new night at Hi.

I think that's one of the problems with Hi. Their music policy is appalling!the club is classed as EDM club!.

It's their own fault for having the nights they do. EDM is one of the worst things to evolve in the last 30years.

I don't think hi is classed as an edm club. You are classifying it as an edm club. And maybe others with a space fetish are too. In the dark and black coffee and most of the prydz night are not edm. The problem for them is that 4 nights are edm and when that genre runs out of juice they are going to have to find something to replace it with. That will be the big test. Conversely new fans will come along and space fetishers will become largely redundant as most stop clubbing.

I loved space and have been going to space for 20 years. I had some good nights and not so good nights there. Reality is hi is filling the place on a more regular basis than space ever did. They have 7 busy nights a week. The prydz night was jammed. Many young people want high quality production and hi gives them that. The sound system seemed fine to me in August.

The issue for me at hi are that the main room has shrunk beyond reason due to the scale of the VIP. I also have an issue with throughput, when busy and close to the front it's impossible to get out. And as for drink prices......well, let's not go there. And I do miss the Sundays there.

I'm not sure if i agree with you mate. Each to they own i suppose. The club feels like an EDM venue or something you'll get in vegas. when a venue has 4 EDM nights out of 7. Thats bad for its imagine imo.

Not only that the club is part of the Ushuaia group. Nearly all the events in Ushuaia are EDM. That says a lot!

This is just my opinion. But i do think if Hi was at a different location and Space was still there. I would think if Hi as a mainly EDM venue.

You say youngster prefer production. Most of the young people I know are into Techno. Cocoon, HYTE, music on etc.Young people are more musically educated than most people give credit for on here.

You know different young people to me and we are both generalising. But it's clear to see on social media that a lot of younger clubbers like high quality, high impact production that is why it's provided. I think their expectations are somewhat higher than mine as I'm used to and more than happy with a small, dark room where great music is pumped out, but each to their own. Times have changed. Maybe vegas has had a big role in that.

Hi may feel like an edm club as a consequence of the production and the fact that four nights a week are edm focussed. Reality is three of the nights aren't. Space certainly wasn't packing them in seven nights a week like hi and never did, but we will see if they can sustain that beyond the first year. Once edm bites the dust (soon I hope) it will be interesting to see how they replace it. But there will always be new clubbers coming along for the new sounds of the day and they will replace those that move towards more underground music or retire. The lifespan of most regular clubbers is short.

Hi will do better next year, and even better the year after that.
They 100% done the right thing opening for this summer, it was always going to be hard getting compared to space, but (sadly) space will quickly be forgotten, or should I say the next generation will have even been to space before.

If hi go with the times I think you are bang on the money.

If Hi has cut the size of the club down dramatically via the main room and reduction of roof areas to non VIP then of course the club is going to be packed in comparison to the Space set up.

If a club had 4:7 nights as a EDM floor filler then of course it's gonna be known as an edm club. Regardless of the fact also puts on 3:4 non edm nights.

I think for it to be known as tech club or otherwise judging by the comments I have read all season the sound system needs some serious work and they need to roughen up the club a bit... that's not gonna happen. Not until the edm bubble has fully burst..not till all the high rollers have moved into Croatia or wherever they wanna head.

originally wanted to go to hi on sat for black coffee (but to see lazarus & co in club room). ended up going to bed instead. i‘m glad i did so since they apparently closed the club room a little early in the end...

went to hi on a black coffee night, but mainly for the keinemusik - takeover in the club room.
while the theatre was packed, the club room wasn't even half full and seriously lacked atmosphere. and from what I heard of black coffee he sounded less like his dc10 appearances and more like his (cheesy) deep-house albums, but with this crowd it worked well. was really disappointed for the club room as especially adam port is on fire this season.

I have to agree with a lot that's been said about hi on this forum, I couldn't really have a good time with roped off but EMPTY areas everywhere you look. Even in the "club" room the amount of vip areas is insane. always felt that this is mainly an event for vips, but if you keep to your area you peasants may be there as well :/
only convincing thing is the toilet floor, I can see this turning into a success.
so if the lineup really interests me I will try hi again sometime, but right now I'm not really keen on it.

Hi will do alright just like Ushuaia. Would not be surprised to see their weekly program move more towards EDM. The club seems to be geared more towards the newbie/EDM fan and not so much the serious clubber. Should be interesting to see where the next trendy area on the island is now that PDB is basically EDM Vegas land now.
