The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

They'll be having the same battle with their own kids when the next cultural change happens

It's not really a culture though is it. I don't think the term 'youth culture' can really be applied here.

To define youth culture you just have to look at past decades. Youth culture is sticking two fingers up to the mainstream,to the older generation and to everything it stands for. The youth of past generations have created their own music, fashion and identy. Some of it political, social,or simply something only the youth understands to the shock and bewilderment of the oldens?. What many of them (not all) are embracing is the mainstream?

They are embracing a culture that is to a large part, being dictated to them by rich, old white f***s,who are using them as a commodity. The vip/cleb culture thing is being embraced by all ages. It's called the mainstream, not youth culture!

What is youth culture nowadays? Documenting your whole life and uploading it to the cloud in the sky with a glossy coat of exaggeration for acceptance and bragging rights?

I don't know, I'm not young. Genuine question.

"You are cool. And you know what is cool. Back in the '60s the original idea of "cool" was that you would pull back from the world, and see it as it really is. A detached gaze, free of political manipulation. But now, you are just left detached."

- Adam Curtis, Living In An Unreal World

there's no point waiting for a new acid house or a new punk. it ain't gonna happen. everything in music has already been done. and besides, how do you out-freak the Lydon/Burns/Boy George/Bez generation of 76-90. You can't, so forget it.

or as kelly osborne once said "how could I follow that?!"

the nearest thing to punk in the last 25 years was the internet, pioneered by libertarian utopians in California. and still a work in progress - who knows where it heads next?

the mistake I made was assuming that my generation sealed the deal; that acid house changed the game forever. but it didn't change all that much in real terms and I'm only starting to realise that now. we all got blinded by the drugs. for all of us, plenty more didn't get involved. for every adamski in 1990 there was an elton john or ninja turtles, for every explosive punk moment there was a teena marie or mull of kintyre

the clubs have to reflect that demographic shift to make a profit - they owe the likes of me absolutely nada

pop didn't eat itself. pop won.

if you don't like it, do what I do and flee to the hills

You may have a point there. But then again its not solely the youth doing that either?

I suppose anything on the fringes....? I'm sure there are plenty of little cliques going on,its just not big enough to effect the mainstream. And this being an ibiza forum, is sadly these days, just mainstream for the most part?

I've noticed that you like adam curtis.

Talking of the 60s,The mods, their style and their music was cool.. the rockers would probably be the equivalent to the ocean beach mob these days

For me it's not a good idea to refurbish hi and make it even smaller than space:spank: Especially on an island where the tourism grows each year! If they care so much about the customers as they say, they should have left the capacity the way it was

Less space to dance = more crowded = less fun

They said the club isn't going to change much in shape until after this summer so it could well look different again next season...

Was there for Black Coffee last Saturday. Best thing about Hï for me are the toilets (Paul Reynolds was playing!), and also the outside area.

Got the €25 tickets for entry before 2am and spent all night in the toilet! I must say it's certainly beats the 30p you normally pay in London Bridge train station!!

How was the queue before 2am?

How easy are these to get hold of and will they be around for In The Dark this come week? I've bought tickets already but will deffo be going in before 2am so could get a refund if the wristbands are easy to come by
