The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Ok, this club is not aimed at people like me, but to others I say give it a chance (esp the black coffee night). Despite the silly gimmicks and VIP etc, the impression I get is that Room 2 is where the real clubbing takes place - the new layout might reassure a few people worried that it had gone completely dark side - anywhere with low ceilings and a less visible DJ generally means better sound, more dancing with each other (!) and a more intimate vibe right? ie taking it back to the roots. If they can get some good DJs and a good crowd in there, it may yet turn into something special
Pretty much what I was trying to say but you have got it across a lot better. can imagine they will do some good smaller one off nights with just room 2 and the garden open outside of July/august

as for other layout changes, there are a few and some of them are really for the better. if you guys want I'll give you an example in a bit.[/QUOTE]

I'd be interested to hear a little more about the layout changes. Thanks

Pictures or an explanation?

we weren't allowed to take pics I'm afraid. but here goes...

ok so if you've been to space enough times and have spent hours and hours on the terraza, you will have noticed this. it might not have bothered you, but after reading this I honestly can't imagine anyone saying 'that's bullshit'. anyway, on the terraza, because of its layout you had three different streams of traffic going right through the dancefloor. one coming from the main entrance, crossing the floor and up the stairs to el salón exit. another one coming from the main entrance and going out the door to the big toilets next to the discoteca. and a third one coming from that exit (the one connecting terraza and main room) and going up the stairs towards el salón. I have a good friend whom I go clubbing with a lot and he's super sensitive about this kind of things and he ALWAYS complained about that when on the terraza. if you wanted to avoid having people constantly walking past you, you had to head into one of the corners of the dancefloor or stay right at the front (below DJ) or right at the back (below terraza VIP).

I'm not so sensitive to that, but once he told me (and we're talking about 8 years ago now when we first mentioned this) I realized he was right. to me this wasn't a big deal (and certainly no deal breaker), but I understood his point. and this is exactly one of the things they are looking to improve with hï. the terraza layout is gonna change 90° to the right - the DJ booth is where the stairs to el salón used to be (and there isn't a general exit to the 'secret garden' from the terraza). with that, they've really very cleverly taken away the 'traffic' issue on the dancefloor of this room.

haters will be haters and might say this is all bullshit. I've not turned into the defender of the matutes group on this forum, but I simply have respect for clever thoughts like that. this is actually one of the main points as to why I personally believe the club could turn into a great room.

They are already getting good DJs in there. We got Andrea Oliva and friends already on the Tuesdays and In The Dark will have either Luciano/Joris/Nic/Steve in there.

Stivi, is the Black Coffee night gonna be one or two rooms? How about Armin's?

Can you actually pay to be in the dj booth?
Can you pay to push the play button? :D

I noticed the people flow issue last year at elrow. Especially along the main curved bar with lots of near drinks been spilled from it. So if it does fix all that it will be a better club dancing experience for sure.

I think I remember seeing somewhere Steve and Luciano are taking it in turns hosting the terrace room and the other 3 will take control of room 1. Seeing as Lawler has released his dates for playing I'm assuming Luciano will be playing on the dates he isn't? I could be completely wrong but thought I saw it somewhere on here.

Lawler suits the club room. Luciano? Hmm. Would've thought he'd like the theatrics in the other room.

Regarding the flow of traffic in the old Terraza I totally agree with Stivi's pal. Although, granted not a deal breaker, the fact they are addressing this issue is positive. It highlights they are taking a pragmatic approach. That they care about the vibe on television dancefloor

That's sick.

Wonder who's gonna be dj'ing that bathroom tho? Awaiting the lineup information! I can already see some hijinx taking place there.

I know some who will play the bathroom but I'm not sure this is something that's gonna be announced beforehand. not sure they treat it as an official dancefloor with DJ line up announcement.

Surely having a DJ in the toilet will do the complete opposite of making it less busy? People will go for a piss then stand there listing to the music and could cause chaos?

It's a hard one to judge really. I'm gonna reserve judgment until I've seen it. I like the idea on paper. It's a nod to the past and seeing as they're redeveloping the previously inadequate toilets, they've got an opportunity to make it workable. Not the same as putting a DJ in Sankeys toilets is what I'm getting at!

I was joking, but I can't imagine any big names?

Very good point actually, unless theres security, it will give me more reason to be in the toilet cubicle up to no good :D

Yes, it seems like they're catering to us degenerates, maybe even encouraging it lol. There's that random screen on the ceiling too or did I read that wrong?
