The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

The new terrace sounds promising. I like the lower DJ booth and connectivity with the crowd. Those 2 things are key imo.

In terms of the Matutes empire as a whole. I'd love to hear what the locals think about PDB and the rise of the VIP, and if they think it's good for the island or not. I'm sure this has been documented already and I'm sure it's not favorable.

Not specifically Matutes, but this thread gives an idea of how some of the locals are feeling about the current state of affairs.

Pretty good questions in my opinion. It's funny to me the whole turnover of PDB, 3 years ago i loved staying there. Space, Beachhouse, really great prices for hotels, I'm not sure i would even pass by it now with all the changes, but over the last 2 years i'd really fallen in love with staying in Ibiza Town even if its typically a little more expensive, really love the location.

Vegas is the antithesis of nearly everything that I hope to see for Ibiza. I would rather go out into the desert, with nothing around for miles, than to go to Las Vegas - no matter who or what's going on there! Ibiza is different, it's not "artificial" - even with the new hotels & the super clubs. It's much more holistic and organic. However, the reality is that it's also very deservedly, World Renowned - every bit as much as Vegas, in a very real way, even more so. And that's precisely the problem: it's SO lucrative that it's already captured the attention of the world's biggest & most well monied players. And they absolutely LOVE takeovers! I would much rather do everything in my powers to help keep the ownership out of the hands of the huge gambling & resort corporations, & keep it as much as possible, Ibizan. I'd work hard to win the hearts of ALL of the island's players, big & small, nice or nasty, to come together and sketch out a plan for its future. When I read in Maxxim magazine, about a girl descending from the ceiling with a bottle of champagne, as a Harley Davidson comes roaring out onto the stage; as a part of a guys $250,000 VIP package, I realized it's only a matter of time before Ibiza is in the que for this type of big-shot extravagance. Sadly, it's pretty much arrived as on stage Ushuaia VIP tables go for $10,000. So the question becomes, can people set aside their differences, grudges, & biases long enough to focus on the prize - the ultimate future for Ibiza. The healthiest future possible. I'd rather look for even just one thing that we could come to agree upon. Absolutely anything that would be good for Ibiza & then I'd bust ass to get it done. And I would get it done by holding my tongue on everything else that I didn't like, knowing that at least we would be getting SOMETHING good accomplished. I'd also encourage others to do the same, & find their own "one thing" to help Ibiza. Squaring off, no matter how much one might disagree with another, effectively strips you of any ability to influence one other. I would love to have any opportunity to have a positive impact on this magical place: before it's too late!

That's like one of FGP's posts but without the emojis

FGP? I'm new so I'll have to do some research to understand. I imagine that my view might come across to many as quite naive, however, I still can't help but believe it's worth the effort.

Feel free to tell me where to go but I think it might be time to edit the thread title so that it is just Hi Ibiza. Give it its own platform for people to talk about it as a club and what it will offer without the constant comparisons to space because after 76 pages I think it's all been said.

Space closed its now Hi so let's have the thread talking about Hi then if people want to cream themselves over what space was like and talk about the changes to pdb then it should go on a separate thread. Having the title as it is now is just encouraging the recent issue that lead to posts being deleted.

Can I just ask why having a nice and appealing outside area with 'plants and trees' is a bad thing in anyway?

Hi, I didn't really put this point across greatly. I just get the feeling it will be an area which will not be friendly for people to mix. Maybe this is because I feel, Hi will attract a similar clubber to Ushuaia, where people are more concerned about the way they look / image rather than making new friends. I am entirely biased toward Space, I will admit. So maybe something's that I write wont be fair towards Hi.

To myself I always thought Space was the perfect club. I loved every part of it. So any changes to the building layout I probably wont be a fan off, particularly with the extra VIP areas which people have discussed.

understand your point, but there are various reasons as to why we won't change that thread title
Understood stivi fair enough.

I actually like what I've been reading about the club room and the roof coming off the sunset terrace. In the same way these guys know how to pull of big production and nail the VIP I think they will create the perfect environment for underground music with the club room and with the right people playing it will work a treat

I wouldn't go as far as saying perfect but yeah I think this will be a great room for underground nights and really looking forward to going. As for attracting the bad crowds I'm sure it wont be that different to any other club! They all have VIP and have all attracted that crowd anyway so its just another venue for them to go to now they aint all only gunna go to one club are they!

Ok, this club is not aimed at people like me, but to others I say give it a chance (esp the black coffee night). Despite the silly gimmicks and VIP etc, the impression I get is that Room 2 is where the real clubbing takes place - the new layout might reassure a few people worried that it had gone completely dark side - anywhere with low ceilings and a less visible DJ generally means better sound, more dancing with each other (!) and a more intimate vibe right? ie taking it back to the roots. If they can get some good DJs and a good crowd in there, it may yet turn into something special

I can't properly promise this as I've not seen the final product yet, but simply judging from what I saw when visiting the building site last week and comparing this to the last two or three years of space when they also put in a lot more VIP into discoteca and terraza (say for coxy nights or enter), I actually don't think it's gonna be that much more than before. it'll look different for sure. some of the VIP will be more visible than it was before, but generally I believe it's made pretty smart so the AIP (actually important people --> the ones on the dancefloor) won't be bothered much. my final judgement on this can only be made after the opening party though so ask me again on 29th may.

as for other layout changes, there are a few and some of them are really for the better. if you guys want I'll give you an example in a bit.
