The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Disagree with you here actually Joe.

It's mostly used on these forums to shout down members who are getting a little too high-and-mighty. Usually at the expense of younger and/or newer forum members.

The Spotlight position has been made pretty clear. They might not agree with how Matutes goes about all his business, but they have treated Ushuaia/Hi as fairly as the other island venues in which they are stakeholders.

there was nothing aggressive, libellous, abusive, profane or untrue in any of my posts which got deleted.

I was merely taking El Diablo to task for his incendiary post, and was actually standing up for this website's independence!

I therefore broke no forum rules

unless of course - far fetched as it may seem - someone from the Matutes camp put pressure on SPL to have them removed, even though that would be absurd considering I am just a tourist nobody expressing a few opinions on a public forum, who poses no serious threat to their image/brand

if it is the case though that nothing negative can be said on here about Don Matutes, then it is a very, very sad day for free speech

I will now exit this thread and the sunshine can reign again

sorry that's not accurate and I need to specify. spotlight as a business has no opinion on this. we've said it plenty of times, we support tourism on the island in all its different forms. as this is a forum where people can voice their personal opinions - detached from their work position, this is where sometimes critical voices are heard. about lots of topics and groups of people.

re amp and your comment, james deleted a few posts and their responses to that so yeah, a few posts might have been deleted even w/o breaking rules, but leaving them w/o the original post that triggered the reaction wouldn't make sense.

so as james said, let's continue discussing without flaming at each others. and I can't repeat enough that especially new members should be treated nicely always. it's only when you are a member of a forum for a certain time and you know the ins and the outs when you start being able to understand some sort of criticism / humour etc.

back to the topic now - we'll have more hï news soon.

people weirdly get very butthurt on this topic. i was a massive fan of Space and won't be interested in going to Hi and have never had any interest in going to Ushuaia, but idc if other people wanna waste their money on it. if anything, if you are a fan of the more underground stuff you would be happier as it keeps the people who like the Vegas style partying away from the more 'underground' clubs. Space is gone, but there's still enough out there for everyone to enjoy

i think if HI had opened its doors as a new club in a different location no one would be batting an eyelid. The fact an Ibiza institution and home too some of the best parties the island has ever know has made way for it is why there is extreme mixed opinion. The worry for me and others i imagine is the "making way" seems to be the direction which Ibiza has been heading for some time. I have no plans to go to HI nor Ushuaia but fair play to the people that do. A lot of which i imagine will be their first time in Ibiza and they will absolutely love it and rightly so.

Well I for one am actually quite excited to see how this all looks. Like others have said if this club opened at a different site and space was still kicking a screaming I'm sure a lot of others would be quite excited because it sounds like it could be a very good club.

I was planning on going Sankeys and then onto Hi on my Thursday night but I'm now very much debating spending it all at Hi to get a proper feel for it.

agreed I have to say this article does make me excited for the opening party.

I'm as much a fan of the old school as anyone - but DC10, amnesia, pacha etc are all still there and its business as usual for them. this is something different. it's a step in another, new direction that I know some will be unfavorable towards. but I for one think that on the right night, it could be fantastic!

After reading the preview of this new club, it appears people's fears of a great club being ruined are well founded. I'm surprised they have allowed any room at all for peasant clubbers. Seperate VIP tents on the roof for 15 people lol secret VIP gardens for "industry people" VIP tables above the main room ( to observe the few peasants from a safe distance) , not to mention the terraces new dj booth where the dj is "surrounded by friends from the VIP area" WTF .. its sounds f***in obscene, hopefully keep as many pretentious knobs in one place.

it's nothing new really. pacha are doing exactly this for solomun and maceo so that the DJ is closer to the vip.
plus the secret garden is pretty much what is the backstage at dc10 (nota bene ibiza's number one 'underground' venue) - just more modern.

I get it that you might not be thrilled, but in this case I'm gonna defend hï, it's not like it was them starting this.

At the end of the day the VIP's are in every single club, Amnesia has them the entire way around the top of the Terrace looking over us peasants so this is nothing new? I'm also sure most clubs probably have VIP areas which are not on show to the public, i.e 'the secret garden' and what was the premier e tage.

Does seem they have a fair few vip areas.
If it's only €20 or for most of the vip areas wouldn't be so bad, but I'd expect "selling a kidney" price is probably going to be more likely.

Well let's hope it is better in reality than it sounds. Like vip at ushuaia, imho doesn't interfere with those wanting to get down and dance at the front like the dirty poor plebs we are
