The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

Why so limited in your perspective? I wan't referring to Abel. No....I'm just a bit player when it comes to the ladder of success, however, I've been privileged to have witnessed firsthand, the magnificent gifts of those who have busted their balls out of making something. Philanthropy is the ultimate gratitude. How about buying an eff'ng house, only to donate it for women & their children to take refuge in, from the violent men in their lives? Criticize me all you want, but I'll stand up for hard working, successful individuals who know how to get things done....

@stivi @McRackin and the rest of Spotlight team, if you despise everything that the Matutes family and Yann Pisenem do, why you are attending to the press releases, sell their hotels, sell their tickets and VIP tables? Isn it this, supporting something that you want to erase from Ibiza?

Would be a bit of a biased website if they chose to a ignore what is now a major part of Ibiza though would it not?

What a ridiculous thing to say. That may be their own personal opinions but Spotlight is a website for everything and anything about Ibiza, just because they may not agree with everything they still have to provide the information for the people who do! I'm sure there are things at your own job you don't agree with but still do.

saying we despise 'everything' they do is an exagerration. there are some forum members on here that have made similar comments, but I never said anything this harsh. and while I might disagree to a lot of things (because of my own personal opinion), I have respect for the fact that GEM is very successful and is an important part of ibiza. business is business, personal views are personal views.

if you'd actually read all my points you'd realize I haven't been negative towards hï at all lately. with yann I actually have an easy relationship.

the thing that's funny is that for some reason a lot of people working for GEM get easily irritated when they see you're not their biggest fan. I also have critisicm for pacha, amnesia and others, but never had to defend this on here (even though they also read)

also to add...you will never find a bad word re ush/hï etc on our website. this is where professionalism shows. we can have our opinions (and might speak about them here in this forum), but on our site we support you just like we support anyone else.

Can I just add - as a neutral, and as a customer of both Spotlight & Ushuaia - that these forums are all the better for the mods posting genuine, personable opinions instead of churning out robotic, commercial endorsements. So please don't change

the level of aggression in this thread is appalling. that is absolutely NOT what ibiza is about. ibiza = tolerance.

anyone calling anyone else names should be ashamed of themselves. that goes against everything the island and spotlight stands for.

i've now deleted a lot of the offending threads and am prepared to open up the thread again. it's one of the most read and commented threads at the moment, 2nd only to the 2016 space closing thread, which still chunters on

please keep the discussion civil. for every one of you old timers who are "never going to visit hï" there are a 100 ibiza virgins who can't wait. let them have their fun. i don't try to dictate my son's musical taste. why are so many of you so aggressive and disparaging when it comes to hï and ushuaïa. by all means voice your opinions, but don't jump all over someone else who has the courage to voice theirs. you can agree to disagree ;)

at the end of the day, it's just about having a fun night out. jeez i remember early 90s morning sessions on the terrace (oops showing your age there james  ). but i don't bang on about space selling out when it put a roof on. i went anyway and carried on enjoying it. i honestly don't see a difference between pacha/amnesia/hï/ushuaïa. they all charge a lot of money for entry and drinks and want lots of vips in the club. so what? they still knock the socks of all other clubs i've ever visited outside ibiza.

i went to patterns in brighton in february this year. supposedly one of top clubs in one of uk's top cities. bottles were thrown and i got pushed aggressively several times on the dance floor. that simply never happens here. the scene is so friendly in ibiza. enjoy it all. i'll be captain birdseye too

/rant over ;)

Great to see your positive input into this thread James. My apologies if any of my posts stirred the pot, as I too believe that Ibiza is unique in it's overwhelmingly happy vibe.

Which night was that, if you don't mind me asking? I've run a few parties at Patterns (as Vanishing Point) which attracted a lovely crowd and absolutely no trouble whatsoever. Even at nights I've attended with big names that maybe attract a younger/more 'merry' crowd (e.g. Jackmaster) I've never seen any problems.

Sorry that you had a bad time anyway and hopefully it was just a one-off.

Anyway, going back to Ibiza and hï/ushuaïa, I completely agree with Stephen's points. I've never been to ushuaïa but appreciate that it is extremely successful and has a audience, as will hï. I wouldn't rule out visiting hï this year, both out of curiosity and as the line-ups are more my type of thing than at ushuaïa.

Just to adding my 2 cents on the whole overall topic... I'm not one for finger pointing, name calling, or comparing old school versus new or even newish because i just dont really care enough and i dont think the real problem is with what Ushuaia and Hi are doing musically or anything like that. I think the problem is as i alluded to in another thread, is they are trying to make Ibiza about glitz and glam or "Vegasify" when i think most people not all do not prefer it this way. Obviously times change and tastes change and so on, but targeting a VIP or yachting audience or whatever you want to call it is just not ideal for most (especially those on this thread). From my own personal experience, i would never go to Ushuaia really for the simple reason that to me, it is a poor man's Encore Beach and you cant even go in the pool, its just not the experience I want from Ibiza. I'd probably give Hi a try if there were something musically worth while, but i still dont love what they do overall as a brand, doesnt mean others wont love it. I think the hardest pill to swallow is that great places like Beachhouse couldn't survive due to rules/regulations or whatever the politics of it where Ushuaia for daylife will thrive and continue on their success with another club because when i think of the vibes at Beachhouse the first year it had Rumors and Diynamic, that is what i really think of when i think Ibiza, not the antics and "show" that is Ushuaia.

ibiza = tolerance ?

SAY WHAAAAT!

A promoter I know was driven to bankruptcy by the dirty tactics of the disco mafia - posters being ripped down, cops being tipped off, lies being spread. it was APPALLING

don't believe me? ask anyone connected to AS ONE 2009 at Benimussa - they'll tell you all about 'tolerance'
