The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

I completely understand and I get it but my point is why not say this against Amnesia and Pacha and Space when it was here? They all promoted VIP an awful lot and they still do. I'm not saying they did from day one but they saw there was a market for VIP and capitalised on it in the same may HI and Ushuaia do.

Why just go after Ushuaia and Hi? They probably only came and set up these clubs because they realised the others had big booming VIP clientele who would go there.

I explained the difference already

You have but these clubs had there VIP before Ushuaia and HI where even there! They showed the like of the Matuets that VIP would be successful, I understand there ethics and way they do things is different and wrong but if there wasn't VIP there to start with these venues would have been such a hit and have thrived like they have. If you saw it or not that's not the point as it was there and as long as VIP is anywhere more and more will pop up

Because with the opening of Hi it shows a seachange in the approach. It's marketed as a VIP club. What you seem to be suggesting is, because VIP is here already, we should lie down and allow it to swallow the island whole.

NO IM NOT SAYING THAT, I'm saying that if all the other clubs have VIP and big VIP sections at that even if HI never existed the problem would still be there, Hi coming along yes it makes the problems worse but the problem exists in all the other clubs aswell not just this one venue. If Hi never appeared and another hotel was built or even if the building was flattened and nothing was there no Hi nothing people would still say VIP is a problem because it would be

No you didn't read my post properly because I said Ushuaia hi hard rock is specifically for vips and it's brand is just for that to make people feel they have to be and look a certain way whereas other clubs with VIP areas which I don't think are a problem are for everybody and even in pacha I've seen people dressed very casually. Let's be honest I think most people are just pissed because space is gone I know I am gutted but also looking forward to new smaller events popping up here and there or the resurrection of privelege and there's enough for me to be happy without bothering to go to Hi. And Im sure those who do go to Hi will have a great time

Ohhh, yeah well that is understandable and I completely get that. But if the other clubs have VIP sections this will attract hotels to cater for these people if you get my point? Even if they don't make them dress up or advertise to them specifically by catering for them you leave it open for other companies and corporations to come in and give these VIPs what they want because the people going amnesia VIP or Pacha or Ushuaia where do you think they stay? Yep you guessed it Hard Rock/Ushuaia, these hotels opened knowing full well there was a big VIP market that wanted these hotels to come along.

Like you say a lot of this hate is because Space is gone.

So we both agree that VIP is a growing problem for clubs in Ibiza. But only one of us thinks it's a problem when the first fully fledged Vegas style VIP club opens.

And for the record, I'm not hating on Hi because Space is gone. I've seen clubs, scenes, DJ's, bands, promoters come and go for 25+ years. Shit changes. But Hi is not progress, and unless you want Vegas in the Med, one day you'll regret being so blase about it

I'm completely agreeing that that is the problem and if these Vegas style clubs and hotels weren't there and you just had a VIP section in the usual clubs it wouldn't be as bad. But I'm saying these clubs would not have opened if the VIPs were not already on the island, you don't carter for people that are not already there. Yes they have attracted more but they didn't just open on a whim that loads of VIP would suddenly go, they knew the VIP was already there in all the clubs.

My point is if there were not VIP areas in any of the clubs then Ushuaia would not have had a client base to open for but that's not the case, these VIPs wanted a posh luxury hotel and as a result they built one. If there was no such thing as VIP in any of the original clubs then that culture would not be booming like it now is

I think you just might be a wannabe VIP, go on, admit it ;)

Hell yeah, along with the silver spoon coming out my rear end! Who doesn't want to stand in a secluded area just standing around with a bottle of champagne watching the DJ

I don't know why people can't just say yeah I'm into that kind of thing and own it like some people are old school and they are part of what house music and clubbing originally stood for, underground parties all types of people from backgrounds and so on, and others aren't too bothered about that culture because perhaps they weren't a member of it, they just want to have a night out with music they like and dress up nice and have a good time no matter where it is just OWN IT

HI is the nail in the coffin of PDB, shame as the beach is quite nice and its only a short trip from the Airport

Ibiza will carry on without Space, same as it could carry on without HI

and please stop calling it "VIP". How many true Very Important People are there in these roped off areas?

All this has got me thinking about times of protest against football clubs for things like ticket prices, club directors etc etc...

I'm trying to picture what would happen if somehow, the crowd boycotted a club, leaving the DJs playing just to the "people that think they're more important than the rest of us", as they stand in their enclosure...

Would it ruin their vibe if we weren't there on the main floor!??! Would they even notice?!?! Would they take the opportunity to leave their enclosure, taking their place on the main floor!!? Would the promotors/owners etc finally get the message about who actually makes their club?!!?

Ku, in the 80's, was known for regular people dancing next to actual celebrities/important people without a care in the world from either of them... What's so different nowadays that this can't happen/doesn't happen!?!? Who's fault is it!??!
