The building formerly known as Space --> HÏ Ibiza

HI is the nail in the coffin of PDB, shame as the beach is quite nice and its only a short trip from the Airport

Ibiza will carry on without Space, same as it could carry on without HI

and please stop calling it "VIP". How many true Very Important People are there in these roped off areas?
Exactly!! too up their own arse to notice what's going on around them. They buy into it hook line and sinker. Classic case of the emperors new clothes. Just such a pity it's happening in a place that genuinely is a magic place for so many people from all walks of life.

Im off to take my dog for a walk around the "estate" and take a breather.

Not much VIP in the berghain amigo
Agreed but that doesn't mean rich people don't go does it? You can still be rich and famous and enjoy other things mate if you don't think that and can't accept that other people may be into the music you like your just as bad as the bad VIP crowd.

Underground music and the underground scene is all about accepting anyone and enjoying your night regardless of social backgrounds, that's what berghain prides its self on. I'm sure many famous and rich people have been without anyone batting an eyelid, there may not be a VIP area but I'm sure plenty people in there are in the same wealth bracket

All this has got me thinking about times of protest against football clubs for things like ticket prices, club directors etc etc...

I'm trying to picture what would happen if somehow, the crowd boycotted a club, leaving the DJs playing just to the "people that think they're more important than the rest of us", as they stand in their enclosure...

Would it ruin their vibe if we weren't there on the main floor!??! Would they even notice?!?! Would they take the opportunity to leave their enclosure, taking their place on the main floor!!? Would the promotors/owners etc finally get the message about who actually makes their club?!!?

Ku, in the 80's, was known for regular people dancing next to actual celebrities/important people without a care in the world from either of them... What's so different nowadays that this can't happen/doesn't happen!?!? Who's fault is it!??!

Good post. The old school bohemian rich were a lot more fun and interesting. You still occasionally see them around the island. Espadrils, white linen and very long hair. That's the real ibiza for me.

As far as boycotts go, it will never happen. There's always plenty more punters in the wings. they would just shrug.

Points taken, but if you are rich and have a good taste in underground music, then why feel the need to enjoy it an overpriced table in a roped off area of the club separated from everyone else?? Bit strange and hardly the spirit which underground house music in any of its forms should be enjoyed. Seems a bit c##tish to me

Incidentally, what would you think if they did decide to rope off the panorama bar and designate other parts of the berghain as VIP only ?? I'm sure as you've said yourself, people of all classes party side by side there at the moment. But if this fake VIP bullshit was imposed there, would you be as anxious to buy into it as you are with Hi ??

I agree with that, I don't understand it either! But some people may just be brought up in a completely different world where that is normal and have enough money for it to litteraly not care. Even if I had the money I wouldn't bother but some people are so accustomed to it they don't see it as wrong but are still there because they love music. I'll admit tho 75% are just there to pose with a bottle of champagne on social media.

Just worth thinking not everyone is like it, I'm sure there are a lot of DJs in Ibiza who will go VIP in other clubs, that's worth things about.

Not at all I would say that absolutely ridiculous, and I think the same with Hi! My only point is that every other club has it not just hi so all the hate shouldn't be aimed at just them for jumping on the band wangon! If Tresor, watergate, about blank, club de visionar all have a VIP section and then panorama and berghain done it then it would be a different story

Why ?? Because others are doing it it makes it alright ??
Just a tip .. Never use that as a defence in court :spank: or indeed as a defence to anything bad really. And you have agreed numerous times on here the whole fake VIP bullshit is bad.

I'm not saying that it would make it alright, I'm saying you can understand why they may have done it, like with Hi I don't think it's right in anyway but it's where the market is so they have to do it. I honestly don't believe another old school DC10 style club could open in Ibiza without VIP and survive that long due to profits.

If that's where Berlin started heading we would all go nuts but if that's where the money and demand is heading youcan't blame the venue you have to blame the culture and people. my day to day job involves working with barristers and the courts so I love an arguement btw :p let's just make the most of what little we do have left, if you don't want to see any VIP I think we have both just agreed F*** off to Berlin for the week!

I don't think Concrete has a clueless moron section... Or at least, it didn't when i was there for Weatherall 2yrs ago... Unless it's that wee balcony out the back of the boat, just behind the DJ booth area... No-one told me to get out of there when i stumbled out for fresh air anyway... Great club, with great clubbers!!!!:cool:
