Tell us how it was - Ibiza 2023

Dates you were there:
1st-6th September

Where you stayed:
Occidental Ibiza

Club nights visited:
Music on at pacha, el Cielo by pacha at 528 (exciting new venue), elrow at amnesia, woomoon at cova Santa, Holo at hi

Best night:
Music on, Carola and Martinez Bros back to back on a high quality system with a great cosmopolitan crowd in a bouncing busy club all having a great time, rich in history to explore. Pacha are taking on the hi threat and winning where it matters

Worst night:
hi Eric Prydz HOLO, drugged up tourists rampacked in to watch a big TV through their phones? Few nice graphics but no narrative to it, just a tech demo from a disco equipment firm

Best bar:
Any beach bar. Worst is Tanta in PdB asking 20 euros each to prepay the first drink (which we hadn't chosen yet?) We laughed and walked off but it seems to be owned by matures now? so no surprise. Generally PdB bars getting club stupid expensive and let's be honest it's a ropey strip of tourist bars

Best place to eat: all inclusive, Ibiza restaurant food is generally poor value, odd tapas etc is nice

Best beach and/or beach club:
Cala Bassa/Compte/Tarida

Money spent:
1k ish

Biggest regret:
Going back to hi, new Ibiza visitors wanted to see it, whole group it was awful but hey Eric got paid 000000 for his grandMA3 programmer mate at the back to press play on the console while he did ? crap cynical night at a cynical club - big TV = boring after 10 minutes

Going back?:
Go most years, keep exploring, visiting since 92

Top tip:
Very often the best moments aren't the big nights just to tick them off, get diverse views and build a unique trip for you

Observations and/or conclusion
Ibiza always evolves hey that's the joy of it, something for all kinda less so now, prices are exploitative now for mass commercial events. 70-100e for a club or a sunbed! Which is reducing the quirky or diverse as noone has any cash to try them,

some clubs/events were frighteningly full with scary bottlenecks that we were amazed aren't being addressed by the clubs nor the local authorities - if anything were to happen?

Spacebar in San Ann was empty and offered nothing, just sticking the name on a generic sunset strip bar ain't working - dunno paint it black and play techno or something to stand out?

Some early signs San ann is getting relatively smarter, interesting to see how that goes as more fish bowl bars become crafty/sushi! cafes
'just a tech demo from a disco equipment firm' is my favourite observation of the year. Excellent work.

So after a good week in Ibiza (not quite great thanks to how insanely busy Hi main room is.. and I went twice last week for Prydz and Afterlife) I thought I'd say thanks to the amazingly sound people on this forum for their sound advice and welcoming nature!

I'd rank the events I went to in the following order.

1. Rumors at Playa Soleil with Guy Gerber and Moscoman. (I got dragged to this free entry event, and I'm so thankful for the person that dragged me! Juan Yarin - Lovefool sounded perfect in there. Its been many years since I went to Bora Bora but this seemed more inclusive and less about showing your perfect body off...something I definitely do not possess.) The feel of this place really is special, I enjoyed the warm-up being in 1 room , and then finding ut there was an even cooler main room for Guy Gerber's set.

2. Shen at Club Chinoise with Sasha, Yotto and Marsh.
My first time at this venue. Amazing soundsytem, fantastic aircon, great wall projections, nice "high-end" feel to the place. Loads of space to dance at the back. Probably my only complaint is that really the order of DJs should have been.. Marsh 1st, Sasha 2nd and Yotto to close, and perhaps overall the crowd were less enthusiastic here, but they were still friendly. Oh and for some reason there's nowhere to sit inside?

3. Afterlife at Hi Ibiza
Horribly rammed in the main room for Argy and Stephan Bodzin... a little better for Adriatique who played some great stuff.. Thankfully room 2 had Binaryh, Recondite and Chris Liebing who all played brilliantly. I did like the ceiling screen afterlife use in the main room, it adds an extra dimension.

Joint 4th. Eric Prydz / Topping at Hi Ibiza
Main room was horribly rammed for Cristoph and Prydz so I spent most time in room 2 with Patrick Topping. Definitely wasn't my intention to spend so much time in this room, but to his credit he played a great set. As I mentioned before the 3d Holo effect wasn't so obvious to me, it just looks like nice visuals but I never felt it was jumping out at me or floating in the air. It seemed to thin quite a bit for Adam Beyer but my friends wanted to leave around 5am so I missed the end.

Joint 4th. Amelie Lens - DC-10

This could have been so good but unfortunately they booked Farrago to play room 2 whilst Amelie was on in the insanely overcrowded main room. This Farrago guy played the worst music anyone has ever played in Ibiza. Hard techno meets eurotrance/hardstyle. At all other events when the main room was full, there was a decent alternative in room 2 but sadly not here. 2am-3.30am is not a set time to gamble with, it can make or break a night. Also there was less decor and lasers compared to Circoloco Mondays. It's minimal enough lighting on a Monday without making it even more boring on other days!

Credit to Lucinee b2b Lifka before him, they played a great set and raised expectations of a good night ahead. I ended the night in the main room with Daria Kolosova which suddenly had loads of room after Amelie Lens finished. She also played a great set... (except for the Kylie Minogue remix) the rest was really cool with a psy-trance edge.

I can't place this 5th is because I think I fell in love with about 200 different girls in the smoking area. One of the most attractive crowds I ever saw, so it can be joint 4th instead!

Main takeaways from the trip are:
1) Playa Soleil and Club Chinoise are excellent additions to Ibiza and I look forward to returning
2) Make sure you like the room2 line-up at Hi before booking, as you'll be spending more time in there than you expect!

Thanks again guys,

hasta la proxima!

Pretty much aligns with our view on all points.

I'm guessing you found the Chinois seating upstairs (available to everyone)? I know it's outside but pleasant.

We haven't been to Soleil, we do want to go, but Chinois is excellent and agree on every point made about that venue.

Shen has been one of our favourite events on our Ibiza trips this year for a number of reasons.

PS: Farrago is Amelie's husband.

Well now it makes sense why this awful DJ can get a gig at DC-10. Let's hope the kid takes after the mother's music taste eh?

Yes I found the seats in the Chinoise outdoor area, but it would have been nice to sit down inside to enjoy the music. (the aircon was so good inside that going outside was far hotter and stickier, even at 4am). Still its only a small complaint, overall I was very impressed with the place!

Dates there: 6th-13th set

Place stayed: TRS San antonio

Beaches visited: call des mort formentera
Playa migjorn formentera
Cala gracia ibz
Cala gracioneta ibz
Portixtol ibz

Punta galera ibz (rock mark)

Restaurants visited:
Tbh I didn’t really take notice of names but mainly only stopped for a couple tapas dishes here and there and had most meals at hotel as was all inclusive and soooo good

This was my wife’s first time visiting so i tried my best to make her fall in love!! I believe it worked 😁

The hotel, even tho expensive, was stunning. This was our first holiday together without the kids for 13 years so we decided to spoil ourselves. The gravity bar is something special with live music of different kinds every night, we only had one night on the sunset strip and it felt wasted (200 minimum spend at café mambo, fist time I’ve done it and I won’t bother again, nice but not worth it, night was glitterbix).

On the Friday we did children of the 80s at the hard rock and it was a good crack tbf, not usually my thing but we danced to classics mixed together for about 3 hours and was right up the wife’s street!
later on was defected at Eden, and it was a class night, as a listener to the defected podcast for 10 years ish, the style of house music was just what I like and melé hammered it for the last couple of hours with some real decent tribal house, he’s added onto my list of mixes to find. Was perfectly busy, space to dance and defo not dead!

For the next couple of days we explored with the car, we found portixstol cove after a 40 minute hike (luckily picking the right direction at a crucial moment!!! Go left!!) and enjoyed some nude chilling and snorkelling in paradise settings! (Oh yeah, I stood on a f***in sea urchin, strongly advise against)

We also visited punta galera the next day and that is just as stunnning, but far easier to get to meaning a lot busier.

Cala escondida was also visited but unfortunately, it was loaded with jelly fish! We swam out about 20 meters before I noticed one, and we both panicked and swam back. On the way back, my wife got stung 3 times!! I decided to swim to shore on my back as again I was sin ropa 😂 I got away sting free.

In Formentera we hired e bikes as advised in this forum, and it was a great way to travel! Calo des mort is quite possibly the prettiest litte bay/cove I’ve ever visited, absolutely stunning and glad we went early and left by lunch as it did get stupid busy! Spent the afternoon on playa migjorn in less busy settings before heading back to the boat.

Pikes on the Sunday……. If you haven’t been, just go. Loved it. Have nothing against youngsters but being 39, was nice not being surrounded by people on phones or getting themselves into a dangerous state. Spent a while searching for a men’s toilet only to be told there’s isn’t seperate toilets 😂 also a shower in the toilet just incase! Music was amazing, didn’t stop dancing for the 4-5 hours I was there, wasn’t ready to leave!!

All in all it was probably my fave trip on the island to date. I usually jus go for 3-4 nights and come back half dead but this time had 2 nights out proper and then had half sensible nights and really saw the island in all its beauty.
Playa den bossa, although only dipping in for hard rock, seems like it’s gone proper down hill since 5-6 years ago. We didn’t get offered drugs walking around once in san an and that’s where we stayed, but in den bossa we must have been pestered 9-10 times(maybe just the area we passed through?)!! And the place just seems too hectic to me now. Ibz town or San an all the way for me, but wouldn’t rule out a place like San mig now, lovely little town!

We also saw my fave animals, the flamingos at salines!!! (My fave cos I’m good at standing on one leg, fave colour is pink and I love eating seafood 😋)

Will I be back again:

f*** yes, big 4 0 next June…. See you on the dance floor

Great review 😁

Dates you were there: 6th - 17th Sep

Where you stayed:

LLobet Apartments, Figueretas Beach.. - Great 4th floor (401), Superior sea view. Quite, gorgeous sea view right on the prom. Having stayed in about 20+ apartments in the Fig / Bossa area, this is was one of the nicest. Spotless recently renovated apartments, everything you needed, Netflix / Apple / Disney+ TV, nice dark comfy bedroom, good size private balcony and quite, so much so you could hear the sound of the waves at night. Staff excellent, pool was there if you wanted shared with next door. Lovely roof top terrace to chill on. Supermarkets etc 1 mins walk, Oli Beach bar / restaurant downstairs as part of the building with nice food for breakfast, lunch even Dinner. Staff so friendly, even giving us free tapas after a couple of visits. Very local in the evening, stroll right on to the prom, 15 mins walk to heart of Ibiza town (we go via Mural Tunnel). 6/7 mins taxi to Hi / Ushuaia area.. Defo going back and l don't say it often for many places. Plus my partner is a 5 Hotel GM, so can be fussy and he was happy out!

Club nights visited:

Cafe Mambos - Capital Dance day event - Sat 9th - Partner wanted to support local home DJ's Belters Only / Jazzy singing live, Eats Everything, Franky WaH.. Day time drinks, tunes and food.. Bit of craic.

Glitterbox @ Hi Sunday 10th- Been going 2-3 times a summer since the Boom / Space terrace days, and it was a cracking night this time. Busy yes, but older heads as September, more dancing then cameras, Fat Tony / Mousse T / Kenny Dope & David Morales all rocked the Theatre - which thinned out as expected as the night went, ideal for David Morales to close!.. Catz N' Dogz, were good not great in the Club room.. The WC, was a squeeze so abandoned after 15mins pushing on several occasions. I love that room when the likes of Melon bomb play, or when its not tourist packed

Playa Soleil - Rumors - Friday 15th - with Guy Gerber b2b Bedouin, Lauren Lane & Nick Morgan.. Hmmm.. So we had planed on going for the day to the beach club, loungers / lunch etc, eager to see the NEW Bora bora, a place we grew up in tbf.. but due to the storm that morning we said we took a stroll down to Bossa, and had a walk around the empty venue for a nosey - pic attached.. We decided we would go for dinner there, so booked for that night, see the evening build and then hit the floor.. They have done a great job and its a credit in such a short period of time what they can achieve. Going to be honest, we didnt love it. We arrived, seated by very nice staff, good table for people watching, never felt pressured to spend. Dinner (l will review in the Restaurants reviews) was ok.. Music is low in the restaurant area, door is closed in to the pre club room, so a constant flow of people going by in to room 1 we'll say.. The music stops completely in the restaurant at 10.30pm, so its just people watching - VERY local, and kissy kissy.. By the time we went inside, l was bored, honestly in biza, never before! I found the crowd in side, which is a nice space a bit Ritzy, high heels and hardly any decent clubbers in there - might have been the crowd for Rumors, but 1000 miles from the old proper BBora.. Which l know are 2 completely different venues. Will we go back, l'd like to think so, and know l will but maybe for the right night / DJ's.. Not for dinner.. Prob try the beach club as beds look sooo comfy

Ants @ Ushuaia - 16th Sep - Been almost 10years since l was in Ushuaia, mostly due to the events that take place there, but as the line up had Paul Kalkbrenner Live, and as both my partner & l love him, it was a done deal.. Plus a 3 hrs set from Kolsch & Joris Voorn. For September, it was busy, the line up pulled in the crowd, and it should be called Sardines, rather then Antz! Busy but really good and managed to get some decent dancing in before being spat out of the juggernaut Ushuaia! Far cry from the first summer it opened behind the sand dune way down the Bossa beach front - god they had a great little spot back then.

Best night: Glitterbox / Antz, enjoyed both, great music.

Worst night: Rubbish, l mean Rumors.. ;)

Best bar: Went to loads all over the place, from Little Ibiza, Murphys, hotel bars, Cafe Mambos, Hotel Montesol Roof top..

Best place to eat: Mariner, Sa Vida, Fusion, La Torreta, Mitchs Bar, Haddock Cafe, Ca La Nina - More on Restaurant reviews

Best beach and/or beach club: Sat on the normal beaches this time in Fig.. Chill Beach bar for lunch @ the Garbi

Money spent: Actually as we ate more local, a LOT less then the usual.. Still over €5k including flights / accommodation / spending

Biggest regret: Missing Camelphat @ Pacha due to tiredness from rollovers on Sunday night / Monday!! Missed seeing some local friends.. For once we didn't hit Formentera even for a day!.. Anyway roll on next year..

Going back?: We will retire to the island in time.. 30+ trips, booking for next summer as soon as flights released

Top tip: I could write a book at this stage like some many of us on here with tips.. But l would say go to local restaurants / bars, support them as the food has really improved over the years.. Check around the more residential area of Ibiza town, around Plaza pintor Vicente calbet reira, packed with great places to eat..

Observations and/or conclusion: Taxis were a pain at the usual peak times, standard.. The island continues to change, but if you go in the right direction its glorious, becoming more Spanish again, even our flight was quietest over, less partying and less clubbers more grown ups (tourism is obvs working) except for the guardia civil coming on to the plane to bust 2 guys as they disembarked - snorting off their tables the whole flight.. Very entertaining.. But my god l just love Ibiza, the gift that keeps on giving ❤️

Dates you were there: 16th-19th Sep

Where you stayed: We had a villa shared between 8 people near San An - Can Germa area.

Club nights visited: Artwork at Pikes on Saturday and Pyramid on Sunday at Amnesia

Best night: Both were great, I'd probably say Pyramid slightly edged it in the end as we were there right until the death and the music and sound were on point. I stayed in the terrace all night and had an excellent time, Ricardo Villalobos b2b Raresh was amazing, both on amazing form.

Pikes was great but it was busy and was very hard to be in Freddies for any length of time, but the vibe was huge when you were in and Artwork was really going for it. We ended up heading straight to Pikes as we had been delayed 6 hours arriving as there had been issues with the runway in Ibiza...as a result we were pretty travel weary and didnt hit things quite as hard as we would have had everything been to schedule. Still had an ace night though

Worst night: None...limited trip really but both nights attended were great,

Best bar: Didn't really do a bar, we kept to the villa and also had a day on the boat.

Best place to eat: We ate at both Es moli in Formentera and Cala Bonita in S'estanyol. Cala bonita was excellent had a brilliant lunch there - that was the best meal we had.

Best beach and/or beach club: We had bad weather so we didnt end up hanging on the beach too much sadly!

Money spent: probs £1200 all in

Biggest regret: Not staying an extra night to catch Luke Una and David Holmes at Pikes...had to get back for the kids.

Going back?: Of course! 2024 at least once - probably back end of season again if harvey makes an appearance,

Top tip: Don't let bad weather get you down! Also...be nice to people...try a bit of spanish if you can, it isn't about getting it right but at least trying shows some respect of intent.

Observations and/or conclusion: 19 years of annual visits now and still going strong! Always new places to discover!

How was Es Moli this summer?

How was Es Moli this summer?

Went twice once back in June just me and the Mrs and again this trip. Both were great although this time the weather was crap so was much less busy...food was excellent but atmosphere a little lacking sadly. We were a big group though so was still a laugh but as you know its a hefty price tag so you kind of want everything to be perfect. The big lad from Circo Loco was on the next table with his family seemed to be a regular haunt for them.

Hello, everyone,
after some absence I'm back here. I hope you're all well!

I'll give you my full review of my short trip to Ibiza: August 12th to 14th, high season, island completely full.
I only went for solomun x steve angello @ pacha but I took the opportunity to do a bit of beach time in my spare time and to show the island to my girlfriend, since she was baptized in ibiza 1st time.

So, I have to say that I didn't love ibiza in august and I think it loses quality with so many tourists, no room for cars, everything full, nightclubs full of tourists etc, however, it was a great heat that I had never felt before in ibiza and that part was incredible. Although, all things considered, I still prefer times like May or October!

Hotel Figueretes for 2 nights;

Playa comte
Cala Saladeta
Formentera (sis illetes) - love it

Outstanding and favorite place: El Carmen restaurant in Cala Jondal, a beautiful experience overlooking the Es Vedra (I recommend booking in advance). An experience of a lifetime.

Total estimated cost (flights + accommodation + night = around 650 euros). Because it's peak season, accommodation was more expensive*

At general was good, formentera was amazing... but ... i dont know it's just me and about the reason i went in August, or ibiza really has new sensations and doesn't seem so pure. The streets are getting strange, the tourists are strange... I don't know. I hope it was just an impression!

I'll back for closing with dixon & solomun
See you!

Dates:
Sep 22 - Sep 27

Where you stayed:
Private place near Jesus

Club nights visited:
Rumors Playa Soleil, quite nice, must say the club looks amazing, audience was a little off...I think lots of people that had already been drinking there in the sunshine for hours. Guy Gerber was good.
Ants Ushuaia, meh. Second time we tried Ushuaia after first attempt a few years ago. After two tries I can definitely say it's not for me, don't like the venue, the vibe, the audience, the prices.
Elrow Amnesia, solid edition, but I did a lot of them so the surprise moment of the confetti gets a big old. Still had fun though. Sam Divine was okay, Eats Everything and Yousef were really good.
Circoloco DC10, had a great time in the garden with Enzo Sirugusa but after that the night went downhill, crazy oversold (they said sold out on socials but I'm sure it was already sold out x2 by then). Impossible to be in the Terrace and so I went home disappointed. Didn't even see Luciano or Seth Troxler.

Best night:
Well, Elrow then. But I'm biased and we always meet familiar faces there. Amnesia gets too crowded too, but nothing compared to Circo.

Worst night:
Looking at the crowd and their attitude....I think Ants was even worse than Circoloco. Both parties attract groups of high/drunk youngster not even there for the music but just to get f***ed up but at least at Circoloco I had a great set bij Enzo Sirugusa.

Best bar:
n/a

Best place to eat:
La Paloma for lunch.
Can Pilot for dinner

Best beach and/or beach club:
Cala Basa Beach Club has sunbeds and an umbrella for 50 Euros if you walk all the way to the back. Nice spot and good food.

Money spent:
Always a lot, but no regrets.

Biggest regret:
Skipped Pacha again. Could have gone to Music On or Solomon but we made some choices. Next year.

Going back?:
Yes.

Top tip:
September is a great month for Mosquitos apparently. Bring repellent and anti-itch.

Observations and/or conclusion:
The general audience is getting worse or I'm getting more critical....that will probably influence my party choices in the coming year.

i read today that someone spread their brother’s ashes at Ushuaia 😳

Dates you were there: 23rd Sept - 2nd October (Last night and having an early one so I don’t feel rough for the flight).

Where you stayed:
2 nights in Vibra Caleta (an absolute shit hole but I couldn’t get Sol Bahia for 9 days when booking so I booked the closest available and cheapest)
7 nights in Sol Bahia - decent place and would come here again.

Best night:
Kevin & Perry at Amnesia - everything about this night was unbelievable from start to finish, didn’t leave the main room all night.

Worst night:
PVD at Shine. Normally a big PVD fan but not liking his new style or his drift into techno. Never really got on with Eden as a club either.

Best bar:
Plastik was ok on the Monday but I got to drunk and felt it on Tuesday.

Best place to eat:
Forgot the names of the others but Golden Buddha was a disappointment.

Money spent:
£1200ish

Biggest regret:
Too much hammering it on the first few nights and wasting the next day feeling rough.

Going back?:
See you next year.

Observations and/or conclusion:
Ticked Ushuaia off the list but wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back unless the line up was right. We went to Armin for A State Of Trance and it was more like A State Of Garbage. It couldn’t have been any further from trance if he tried but I expected that before.

Next year, possibly looking at coming for 2 weeks but with less partying and more exploring. It’s a bit of a waste when you’re feeling like shit the next day.

All in all, an amazing holiday, so many good stuff happened and people met. It sadly goes way too fast when you’re here.

Sold Out , rammed , sold out ... and its october.
They can earn a lot of money. Same boring discussion as every year : Longer season in future ?

To an extent, I agree, many moans are as old as time. But I guess it’s worth tracking whether they are consistent or increasing? Similarly i’ve read a larger number of posts than usual this year complaining about the quality of other clubbers, ie the wrong people at the wrong parties...
Thats a issue for the Winter. Lets see what they do 2023. I remember additional Parties at some years. I remember a additional Flower Power , and other additional ones at Pacha. Chinois has a long season ( not the big names ) . Wait and see.

It's particularly grim this year, I actually think this past week was worse than August for some events.

Weird.
Hope its a little better in may. Was a nice time before COVID. Very relaxed , a lot of space in the clubs. Hi and Ushuaia are running well. All the clubs too, this year. Privilege Back ?
