Tell us how it was - Ibiza 2015

Dates I was there:
26th June - 11th July

Where you stayed:
San an bay - Bergatin. Decent hotel all inclusive. Pain in back side getting to and from San an bus station

Club nights visited:
Lots! Ushuaia - axwell and Ingrossio (twice), hardwell, asot.
Amnesia - cocoon, together
Space - full on ferry, raw change
Pacha - fmif
Privilege - supermartXe
Zoo project
Ocean beach club
Bora bora

Best night:
All good but axwell and Ingrossio opening night was awesome. Good production value and a lot of songs I like (shm fan and I'm more edm leaning at mo)

Worst night :
None really. Fmif was slightly disappointing in pretty much just house all night (I like a mix) and it was overly rammed as per normal.

Best bar:
Didn't really get chance to do bars but liked play2 in West end and ocean beach for a daytime thing

Best place to eat:
Can't remember the name of the place unfortunately but think it's on the street to bora bora entrance. Has black awnings. Anyone know where I mean? Reasonable price and decent portions. Much better than ushuaia or hard rock hotel in that regard imho.

Money spent:
In two weeks I spent €1250 which ain't bad! That includes club tickets. I don't drink much and was ai at hotel which helps. (Flights hotel and transfer where about €1500)

Biggest regret:
Not staying longer or getting that lasses number :)

Going back?:
It was my 6th time. What you think? ;)

Top tip:
Chat to people on here in meet me in ibiza forum, find out if peeps up for meeting if same time out there. When out there use the facebook group for spur of moment meets (push notifications big plus there)

Met some great people and great holiday friends and had time of our lives.

Don't pre buy tickets except for events you really really must see because you'll find when out there plans can change quickly.

Don't be afraid to be yourself, people will like you or not regardless.

Lastly try and moderate consumption of alcohol or whatever, may seem "boring" but you'll last a week or two, remember it and not feel like dying and have a good experience
(Of course a few nights of compete carnage are acceptable; ) )

Yeah west end has changed even in the few (4) years I've been going. Play2 2012 was good. Last year was empty and I mean literally 0 people. Better this year. And one of bar guys is from my home town.

Defo worth checking out even if west end isn't your thing.

With that many nights visited, you've got to give us a little more info! Especially as some of them don't get much discussed on these forums. I'd be very keen to hear your views on Supermartxe, Raw Change, Together etc. Busy? Any good?

Yeah sure thing.

Amnesia cocoon - went with some techno fan friends, I'm not really into techno but don't hate it. Josh winks was on on our night and I really like his transitions between tracks, the others preferred him to sven vath. Drinks prices went from €18 up to €23 for a vodka mixer during the night. I sacked that off and bought a bottle of water for €9 and filled from tap (no stomach issues at all). It wasn't that busy at all, plenty of space to move around.

Amnesia together - I've done this night before last year and like it. Good mix of tracks more tech house but occasional progressive track in there. It was really busy though and in places a bit of a crush, fun night never the less.

Ushuaia axwell & Ingrossio - my first time at ushuaia, really like the outdoor feeling you get with the planes going over head. More edm type music which I like however they had habit of only playing 30 seconds or so of a good track (Don't worry child etc) so just as everyone was getting into it and singing alone it's on to the next track. Was cool the live video feed of them walking up the side through the crowd to the stage. Water is €8/9 but it's half litre not the tiny 250ml ones at other venues. It was busy but enough space to move around.

Ushuaia Hardwell - decent night again and pretty busy but space to move about. However it was really hot so had to go off to the fans and cooling sprays at the back.

Ushuaia ASOT - the acts on before van buuren where trance leaning into edm which I actually liked. Main act been in the centre of the pool was a good change and meant you wasn't forced into the crush at front. It was less busy than the other nights I went but still a decent crowd.

Space Full on Ferry - I actually did this before asot and as surprised how much I liked it. We went just on a whim after eating at ushuaia. The terrazza is a good setup sound wise. Was surprised that most of the rest of the club was closed (upstairs the smoking terrace downstairs etc). It wasn't that busy tbh but ended been more sociable than dancing. Not always a bad thing

Space Raw Change - went with some lasses and a guy for a laugh (gay pride opening) . Music was ok, I'd place it at tech house. They had lots of performers dressed in crazy stuff and doing crazy things which made it quite a spectacle. One guy pretending to be blind with a white stick going up and grabbing people's bums lol. The gay theme/thing didn't bother me, the other guy with us bailed we think cause he felt uncomfortable. Only one guy approached me and I said not interested and that was it. It wasn't that busy so plenty of room to move about. It's a good laugh if you're secure in your sexuality and not easily offended.

Privilege supermartXe - this is a more edm progressive leaning night. Remember not to leave before 3am as that's when main act starts. The people I was with really loved the night. Women in big bowls of water, box guy in a spinning cage etc. However I went to it in 2013 and I think that show, which was a full on sex show was a better event. If you've never been before its worth seeing just for something a bit different. It would be nice if privilege could be refurbished and given a new lease of life.

Zoo project - my first time here. Good daytime and evening event, reasonable for a club drinks prices and food served too. Definitely get painted up, it's a laugh! Taxies may not stop to pick you up though if it looks like you'll get it all over there taxi (took few attempts to get a Taxi :/ )

Also did bora which had some good live musicians playing along with the music. Music in general seems to be just techno constantly which for me got a little old after a few hours.

Hope that's more info for you ;)

Dates I went: July 17 -July 24
Stayed at a Private Villa in San Gertrudis (sp?)
Club Nights : Music On (Friday), Ants (Sat), Vagabundos (Sun), Circo Loco;Cocoon (Mon) and HYTE (Wed)
Best Night Music : Music On ..Marco was redic (So was Capriati), then Ricardo at Cocoon was amazing; Luciano who in recent gigs has been predictable was better than I had imagined (Be@TV was there )
Worst Night: DC-10- not a fan of the layout and the 'CONTROL' ... too packed and hot in that place.
Best Bar: Didn't really go to any bars when we stayed at a villa.
Best Places to Eat: Boo Burger was good..I recommend highly and we wen to BamBudda (sp?) in San Gertrudis which was good as well.
Money Spent: 1500 on flight, 900 on accommodations and 1500 on everything else (tix, food, etc.)
Biggest Regret: Going out on Saturday and DC 10 ...should of paced myself.
Top tip: buy a flask and put whiskey in it, they don't search you like they do in NYC.
Going Back: yeah def

Club Nights : Music On (Friday), Ants (Sat), Vagabundos (Sun), Circo Loco;Cocoon (Mon) and HYTE (Wed)

 We found one (!!!) So you hit all three underground tech parties at Amnesia in a week. Well done you! :D So perhaps you can clear up our long-running Hyte vs Cocoon vs Music On debate on these forums.

Dates you were there: 3-13 August, though I flew out to Amsterdam for a night in the middle.

Where you stayed (resort/hotel): Hotel Riviera, San An Bay

Club nights visited: Cocoon, Carl Cox, Paradise, Music On, Zoo Project, Viva Warriors

Best night: Music On - Was stupidly busy when we got in around 2:30, got better and better from 5am and was still rammed when we left sometime after 8am. Carl Cox b2b Marco Carola was special

Worst night: None

Best bar: Kumharas - never been to the Bay before so had never been. Brilliant atmosphere and views for the sunset, sensibly priced. We ate there one night too and it was fantastic.

Best place to eat: Kumharas

Money spent: £2500 at a guess

Biggest regret: Staying in the Bay. I just got involved in this because some mates had booked the 10 night all inclusive there and I wanted a holiday. Spent an absolute fortune on taxis and it's full of families and 'Brits abroad' types of tourists. Back to Bossa/Figueretas next time.

Also, 4 of us went for the 10 nights and 3 others arrived after 4 nights. This led to hitting it really hard for the first 7 nights and left us completely wiped out this week. Need to pace yourself when there for that long.

Going back?: Of course

Top tip: Give Zoo Project a go. This was my 7th trip and I'd never thought to go, but it was brilliant fun. Go all out and get painted up, everyone is so up for a laugh and it was most of our group's favourite night. The music was a lot better than I thought it'd be too, Paul Woolford and George Fitzgerald were there and spot on.

And I know it splits opinion, but I'll always say stay on the PDB side of the island. I reckon I did €300 on taxis when usually I could walk to Space, Sankeys, Bossa for the daytimes, cheap rides to Amnesia and DC10.

Don't agree with your recommendation to stay on the PDB side for far too many reasons to mention and I don't want this post to go of topic again.

I've seen that other thread. It's subjective I think, I've stayed in Bossa 3 times and have wandered around there plenty this last 10 days and not seen anything you don't see in San An. I've never been mugged in Ibiza and feel comfortable being out at any time of day/night. I'd rather save the time and money on taxis and stay somewhere where there's so much more going on.

A couple of the other lads said it as well, it was agreed that Bossa had more to offer for us and we'll be staying over that side next time.

Chucking my 2 cents in...I've always said the Bossa side was better...you've got Bora Bora, easy access to Ibiza Town etc etc...however, I took an Ibiza virgin (my girlfriend) this year and stayed over San An for the last 2 days. She preferred it there. Liked the sunset, Mambo's was on fire this yeah...bars in the bay like Bay Bar and Ibiza Rocks. Said it was more 'normal' than the other side! lol. Made me laugh anyway....

Dates I was there: 31st July - 7th August

Where you stayed:
Hotel Riviera - San Antonio Bay. Decent enough for your usual all inclusive budget chain, but was a bit peeved when I requested a sea view numerous times before arrival, (and was told this would be fine), only to get to the hotel and find we were placed in a room directly facing the other way from the sea view rooms  Luckily, a holiday romance with the hotel's beautiful Italian hostess that blossomed over the course of the week was my saving grace :p

Club nights visited:

Ushuaia - Radio One
Sankeys - Shelter
Ushuaia - Creamfields
Ushuaia - Avicii
Cafe Mambo - Steve Aoki pre-party
Pacha -Aoki's Playhouse
Ushuaia - Axwell ^ Ingrosso

Best night:
The nights seemed to get better as the week went on! And though Axwell ^ Ingrosso offered a phenomenal finale to our week, for overall value of a night, I'd have to betray my house roots and ashamedly admit that Aoki's Playhouse was a really rather spectacular night!
The boys I went with are much more EDM than me (as you can see from many of the nights we ended up attending!), but I though I'd give it a go, and was pleasantly surprised! The evening began at my absolute favourite place in the world, Cafe Mambo, (honestly, the more time I spend here I think I could happily live at this place and when I'm not there, all I think about is how long it's gonna be till I'm back!) - Ended up meeting Aoki at Cafe Mambo when stepping out of his transport and being ushered into the back, was really nice and stopped for a photo with me despite his entourage saying he wouldn't do photos, and ended up sipping on the strawberry daqs until randomly out of nowhere, the barmaid came and whisked my 5 friends and I away to a seafront table and delivered us a complimentary bottle of champagne. The reason?
Well, some of you may recall me telling a story a few weeks back that I always try and wear a large "birthday boy" badge on the island to recieve freebies. I was wearing it this night, and it obviously caught the attention of the Mambo hostess - and worked an absolute treat! We later ended up at Pacha where Aoki did his thing, cakes n'all, and were treated to an impromtu B2B when Nervo and Bob Sinclar randomly turned up and joined Aoki and Cedric Gervais for a monster B2B set for the final hour. Ended up dancing till the lights came up and the club eventually let us back out into the blinding sunlight at around 7.30am, what night!

Worst night :
How can you have a bad night in Ibiza? Worst night was the feeling of flu and frequent twitches in my sleep upon returning back home. Avicii at Ushuaia was also pretty painful on account of me getting so sunburnt that day earlier at the hotel that I couldn't even lift my arms during his set, and had to retire home straight after Ushuaia to whack the aftersun on and lay in a sunstroke heaped mess as the lads hit the west end. I also found that Sankeys, when not on drugs, can get pretty monatenous, and didn't enjoy seeing a lad OD to death upon leaving, foaming at the mouth outside as his friends screamed for help!

Best bar:
Cafe Mambo without a doubt. But also a big fan of Tropicana on the strip, where the DJ let me play a set for about half hour. That was pretty sweet. And Koppas bar, where our mate fell in a love with a shot girl and ended up paying around 100 euros in jelly vodka shots just because she gave him a snog after every shot he bought, what a plum.

Best place to eat:
As we were all inclusive, ate at the hotel most of the time. Burger King's chilli cheese bites became a regular refuelling snack whilst out in the evenings, so many were consumed they took on iconic status. Though other than that, there was a bar in Playa Den Bossa that bought our spare R1 tickets off us for £200 per ticket, and they ended up doing a pretty epic steak burger.

Money spent:

Only took around 750 euros, which as I was all inclusive, thought that would be pretty much ok as have taken similiar amounts on previous all inclusive trips. However, money seemed to run out a little faster this time, either that or I'm just drinking more as I get older  I didn't run out at any point but only had 20 or so left by the time we got to the airport for the flight home so would probably take closer to 1000 next time.

Biggest regret:

Having to come home :( This time, more than any other, my love for Ibiza was almost too strong, and I genuinely felt like crying as the taxi drove us through the hills and past the countryside villas en route to the airport for the flight home. Much of my final day was spent contemplating abandoning my home life, where I have a pretty stellar career etc, just in order to stay out in Ibiza and find some last-minute work doing PR or bar stuff. Such was my addiction to this place, I was trying to find every possible permeatation to how I could stay there longer, maybe even live there.
One day it will happen, I know that much.
Maybe next summer, when I have my quarter-life crisis and give up my job to go work in Ibiza for a full season.
Or maybe when I retire, and own a villa up in the hills, spending my evenings in Cafe Del Mar, and Mambo, and passing on my years of wistful Ibiza advice to drunk teenagers
Going back?:
Silly question. Next summer at the latest. But possibly closing parties, got to pump some more of that heroin that is Ibiza into my veins to keep my sould satisfied over winter ;)

Top tip:

  • Remember to replenish every morning. The nights are tough, and if you're not slapping on the sunscreen, necking back the beroccas, and eating well and often, you may end up "doing a Pugh" (now infamously named after one of the lads in our group who took so many 'naughty nurofen' that he was a shivering mess by the 4th day)
  • Embrace EVERYTHING. Every person, every opportunity, never turn anything down.
  • Talk to people on here! Ended up meeting Lou (the cougar) and her friends after much pre-holiday chat, and even a fleeting appearance from Big Wox.
  • Be aware. I'm a very street savvy guy but upon leaving a bar in the west end I had two typical "seven shots, five spirit mixers, twenty litres of vodka" promo men approach me and didn't think much of it. Walked a few metres on and felt my pocket to notice my iPhone was gone. Instantly marched back and squared up to the promo guy, causing a scene outside his bar and demanded he gave me the phone back instantly. At this point his friend produced the phone from his pocket and said I had dropped it on the floor, which was bullshit. I can only think the negative attention I was drawing to this guy outside his bar (loudly accusing him of theft etc) may have impacted the amount of customers they were gonna be able to bring in and so they thought better of it and gave the phone back.
  • Always go back! You can never make your most recent trip to Ibiza your last, thats the law!

Less of the cougar thank you very much  :spank:

Nice Review Jake, I still need to do mine....I've attempted it a couple of times but get too emosh - maybe get round to it during lunch break today

Think it's called The Gallery, quite a small place directly opposite Tropicana, just across from Capone
Ah the two floored place with glass front? used to be Eden corner and quite good a few years go. They seem to rebrand it every few months and pretty empty these days.

Yeah that's the one!

I guess I should also add another tip for the "Any tips?" part:

- Don't suck women's nipples in Eden. As even if it's consensual, security WILL throw you out! (Had to learn that one the hard way hahaha) :p

nice review! How did you manage to make 750euro last a week and 7 club events?! Im not knocking it, great if you can ! Surely the tickets cost a few hundred euro?
750 euros would last me a few days
