Solomun +1 @ PACHA 2022 - Reviews & Reports

Horrible last night 🥺 It felt like he played the same song 8 times. Bassy Tech House for 1.5 hours then some melodic stuff for about 4 songs and then straight back to tech house until the b2b. B2b was full on heavy techno (the fast stuff) and was actually the best part of the evening but also eventually became quite samey until they started winding things down.

Also it pains me to say it but Pacha is no good unfortunately. The VIP area takes up half the club leaving a tiny dance floor that was packed to the rafters. It was mayhem in there getting pushed and bumped into for 7 hours straight. I also feel the club is way too light - there are led screens on the roof and walls + down lights + rotating lights. They use glass so there are shards of broken glass all over the floor that get stuck into your shoes. Finally - there were security guards patrolling and literally standing on the dance floor for 10 mins in the middle of the crowd trying to catch people out. We had an entirely underwhelming evening.

I thought it was way too busy when I was there too, why don't they play the music in the outside bit? Are they not allowed because of where it is? We went out for a bit to just chill and hope the dance floor would get a bit quieter and it would have been much better if you could hear the music there even if it was just on really quietly.

Doesn't sound good mate! Does seem to be a recurring theme from people at the moment.

You should have seen in before the re-fit!

You can't play live-music outside in Spain after mid-night!

Overcrowding is the norm now in ibiza clubs... 🙄
I must be stupid but I can't understand how people enjoy paying 70€ to not be able to dance.
It shouldn’t be but viscous circle - greedy clubs driven by greedy DJs - punters want to make the most of their holiday and a lot scared to deviate from the main nights.

Only way is if people stop going … but won’t happen

This is the main reason i am skipping circoloco and solomun this year even though my favorite djs are at circoloco that week. Would rather go to pyramid and saga and have space to dance. Nights should be sold out, fitting people like sardines should not be acceptable.

We went to circo loco a couple of weeks ago and there was room to dance and move. The terrace was very busy but room at the back and they had a massive line up that week.

It was jammed downstairs for Solomun but there was plenty of room on the roof, balconies, outside and in the alcove areas. Not sure how long Solomun is going to stay busy if he keeps playing the absolute tosh he’s rolling out this season. He and we have reached a natural end sadly and we will certainly be giving it a miss in August with Prydz and Pyramid to choose from.

Yes I was in shock when I went to pacha and he was playing the worst tunes!

He is too hit and miss for me this year and I cannot take the risk! Won't be seeing him either when I go in august

I’ve been a big fan of Solomun since Diynamic started in Sankeys, but now it’s shocking to read these reports. After all, Solomun has changed its sound every year and it has been interesting to see a new direction. Even his weaker sets have been ingenious in the big picture! Now, however, we are living in special times and the new direction is may be too radical or totally wrong. Nonetheless, I want to give a chance in September when Amé is +1..

I think ultimately no artist with commercial ambitions wants to stick to the same sound, whether that is somebody from the pop world like Madonna or somebody who markets themselves as underground like Marco Carola. There is always a desire to move things along

I can't say I'm thrilled by this new direction, but I understand it's part of the cycle in the business

Counteract that with the DJs at the opposite end of the spectrum who have no desires of commercial success and stay true to their sound from day one

Solomun has already changed so much since the days of Diynamic Neon Nights. So maybe this new style should not come as much of a surprise

We already saw with his album a big change in production

I need to get to that night this season before I comment, but what has been amazing about his journey from 2012 - 2020 was that as his sound got heavier, and less commercial, he became more successful. Each year since 2013 at Pacha his night got more and more heavier, and miles away from that 2012 sound he used to play. This season (from what I am hearing) he is going off in a generic tech-house direction at the time that everyone else is going in that same direction. As you say, his new album did give hints in terms of where he wanted to go, and if he is happy with this direction, then I suppose good luck to him. Maybe this is what he needs to do to get the kids in this season.

has anyone got example of the bad tunes he’s playing ? I know tech house can mean a lot of things so genuinely intrigued
