Smoking

 But seriously how many deaths have been caused by pills in the last say 10 years compared to the number caused by smoking??

completely true. It's a relatively safe drug to be honest in terms of risk to user if they do it properly (drink right amounts and cool down)

A society based on weed and pills rather than alcohol and tobacco is preferable. Discuss.

I am trying again to pack in.

I am running every morning and chewing gum all day.

And I still get these overwhelming urges to smoke.

fcking sick to be honest.

I get really snappy and moody and at work i can't really let myself be like that at work. Does anyne one know of any mood enhancers i could use - legal:lol: , safe (well not too bothered about safe) and easy to get hold of??

Help!!!

Exactly and I feel much safer in a club full of pilled-up loons than in any high street in England at pub kicking out time with loads of pi$$ed up morons looking to start rucks  It's a strange old society we live in

How long since you stopped Mark? I found after the first few weeks the mood swings went away. Exercise is probably the best mood enhancer, so it sounds like you're doing the right things.

Another strategy I've used is to drink twice as much to keep the hand to mouth movement going at an acceptable pace.

A big slice of chocolate cake usually picks me up when I am feeling down ;)

I've been off two weeks, but terrified of having a drink. I had half a glass of wine on friday and the craving was awful.

Becs,I did eat a full carrot cake on Monday though! It did help  - just means I'll have to run further.

Grego: I might quit coffee in the morning and see if it helps, cheers.

That's something I just don't get. Coffee without caffeine? Why drink coffee then? It's not like it's the best tasting beverage in the world or anything. You drink it for the caffeine!

(ok, unless maybe you're having a double iced latte with vanilla syrup... that is just plain tasty :D)

I drink coffee for the taste, it think it tastes lovely, especially when it's freshly brewed with the finest beans! Mmmmm!

Well according to Alan, within the next few days to a week, you should experience a "breakthrough moment". It honestly gets easier, around the 3 week mark for me.

Alan also says not to deprive yourself of things you'd normally enjoy, otherwise the feeling that not smoking is making you miserable will be exacerbated. I found it soooo weird the first time I went clubbing without smoking, but after a couple of times I totally forgot and it seemed normal.

Thanks Holly. I think the "God is it always going to be like this"feeling is here at the moment!

I need to hear that it gets easier!!!

I'm excited, I've been smoking since I was about 14 and can't imagine anything without a trusty fag.

yeah the hardest thing is obviously going out and socialising, but if you can be strong the first few times you will be o.k.

My flat mate is desperatly trying to stop also, he has reduced to 2 fags a day and will then hopefully only smoke when he goes out, then after that he will try to cut altogether.

He has also stated that he will stop but as time goes on it gets harder so he is really going for it now. He said he did not want to be the old stinky man in the pub who has yellow fingers lol

I promise you it does, I hardly ever think about it. And I know it's done me so much good - exercise is much easier (i could never have run in a 10k when I was smoking) and I also think I feel less rotten after a heavy weekend than I used to when I was adding 100 fags to everything else I'd put my body through.

Roll on the smoking ban so I can get home from a night out without my clothes/hair stinking of fags!

I always wonder what the hell we're going to smell like after a marathon clubbing session without fags - fags mask the other horrible smells

Hahaha

I definately find running helps a lot, I'm gonna be the new Forest Gump.

That's what I don't want to be - the rough old bird in the pub with yellow stained hair and fingers
