and now the ibiza town council is already thinking about installing cameras in sa penya!! 8O
and more cameras in ibiza town:

according to diario de ibiza the port authorities have announced that in october they will start the works to install 12 cameras along the port (from the dyke to the marina) :!:

(they will also install 4 in the port of formentera)

the summer arrived to the end so its time to check the results. according to joan pantaleoni this summer there was 30% more denuncias for violation of municipal ordinances (excess of noise, closure times, PRs without permits, etc) and 50% less denuncias to lookie-lookie guys (as a result of all the detentions last summer lots of them went somewhere else this year) :!:

Old Town Hall Could Become Police Station.
With the residents & businesses in Sant Antoni always complaining that people do not report crimes because it is hard to get to the local police station or the Guardia Civil quarters on the outskirts of town, this week the authorities said that they were studying setting up a police post in the old town hall building in the heart of the town. It appears that the idea is to staff this installation with police who normally occupied the sub station at the end of the sea front promenade in Punta des Moli. This sub station has apparently not been too effective in fighting crime or helping residents or visitors report crime because it is neither easy to reach from Sant Antoni or from the bay. When the old Town Hall is set up as a police sub station in Sant Antoni, the Punta des Moli sub station will be most likely moved, at the request of the Bay Bar Association, to a new location in the centre of the Cala de Bou tourist region to better serve this area of the island.

Another area affected is Ses Variades in Sant Antoni where the Matutes family supposedly want to build luxury apartment complexes & a marina needing a 5 metre high sea wall to protect it from the sea, which will certainly change the sunset in this area
last week the newspapers revealed that the major asked to matutes to do the new marina next to the old one instead of infront of the sunset bars and the new complex of apartments, as san antonio is famous for its sunsets!!

what the council wants now is the new port here..........

Bars With Public Terraces To Get Rebate If They Open All Year.

The bars & cafeterias operating on the fountain promenade in Sant Antoni have had the rent they pay to the Sant Antoni Town
Council for their terraces heavily increased this week. However, they will get a 65% rebate making the rent they will pay on these
terraces in 2005 less than in 2004 if they open all year round. Those that open 9 months of the year will pay the same in 2005 as
in 2004 whilst those that only open for 6 months of the year will not get any rebate & will end up paying a lot more for the rights
to use their terraces which are on the publicly owned promenade.

according to d.d.i. they are still negotiating (matutes + town hall + gobern balear) but seems like the new port will be built next
to the old one and will not spoil ses variades..........

but ive heard they will biuld a paseo in front of the sunsetbars  ....pepe from es paradis told this to a friend of mine...

slightly off topic now I suppose, but haven't there always been the "larger louts" in Ibiza?

How long have 18-30 been running holidays there?

I think its a good idea to keep prices how they are, as this, i believe, is the key factor in making them choose elsewhere (Maguluf for example)

every year the council announces its priority for the next summer (in the past: illegal selling, etc). joan pantaleoni already
announced the 2 priorities for summer 2005:
· the closing time of the clubs which is 6am plus 30 mins (that includes es paradis, eden, privilege and amnesia)
· the noise pollution levels in the bars, i suppose inspired by what the ibiza town council wants to do. btw, a little bird told
me that a well known bar in the west end had problems with this on friday night..........

here are some of the quotes from joan pantaleoni, translated specially for you:

he said that the objective of this measures is to be able to close the clubs "in high season, thats when it hurts more". "they
dont care about the fines" he admitted. he explained that, till now, the denuncias for not respecting the closing times were
transacted by order of entrance along with those of noise pollution, etc. "up to one hundred denuncias arrive to the council
per day. when it was the turn of those related to closing times and the complete file was transacted, it was november when
these clubs are already closed ". from now they will give priority "to the cases that have bigger social incidence, like the
ones that cause problems of traffic". the municipal ordinances of sant antoni establish that the clubs must close its doors at
6am, with a margin of 30 minutes to evacuate the place. the local police receive lots of denuncias related to the establishments
that dont respect the municipal ordinances and whose clients, when leaving later, cause circulatory collapses in the road of
sant antoni. "the problem is that, administratively, this file was under a pile of great volume of denuncias. now, with more
personnel and an administrative rearrangement, what we will do is that these infractions will go first "
