RESISTANCE IBIZA [Sasha & Digweed] @ Privilege 2017

Top night, was a bit concerned about comments on here and the fact we were the only ones that got off a full disco bus at 1.30am. Got there about an hour later than I wanted but really enjoyed it. S&D went IN, perfect lighting and perfectly busy in both rooms from what I saw. Even hung around for half of Dubfire who followed on well.

First time I've see Privilege in full flow!

off topic but is it easy to know when to get off party bus for Privilege and Amnesia coming from San An? Never done it before but will be doing in a weeks time.

Priv first, Amnesia second. Priv looks in the middle of nowhere and is across the road and up the drive way. Amnesia drops you right outside the club

Do you just ask the driver to stop at Privilege etc or do you need to know the stop at which to get off?

Will write about Maceo and Len Faki later, but after Pacha got in a taxi and then straight to Privi about 0330. Leaving Len Faki in flow was damn hard, but I wanted to do both of these parties..... so we stuck to the plan.

Went straight into Privi about 0345 and and the place was pretty packed and totally buzzing. I'm in the camp of people that have neglected Privi for years, so not actually seen the room like that since Monza days 2008/9). There was not much room on the main floor at the time. We worked round the edges to have a quick look in the Vista (expecting it to be empty) but a near full room with good space to move! Good vibe, but back into main room.

Firstly, the lighting and screens etc. I always associate too much of this with EDM, but the guys have done an outstanding job at this. And the fact that people are dancing and aren't just recording it proves they just there for the music, and the lights just enhance it. They just totally complement it. They can go from creating a massive big room festival feel to bringing the lights down to create a few arches that makes it feel like you're under the arches in Heaven or The End. It's tremendous.

S&D were half way through their set when we got there. Having just left Len Faki at Pacha, these two boys were pushing it pretty hard too. Harder than I expected. Now I'm obviously more of a Digweed man, but I'm struggling to get much of the Sasha influence in the set. Is this whole reunion about Sasha moving his sound closer to this? This was like a full on Digweed Techno onslaught. This is like hours 4 & 5 if you ever stick with him for a 6+ hour set. It worked with the crowd, the room and they totally nailed it. The hand over to Dubfire was very slick and most people probably never even knew it had happened. Stayed for a lot of his set, and he again exceeded my expectations.

Overall, I think what Privi and Resistance have done is really amazing. I can see this night growing and getting bigger and bigger with or without the Cox/Sasha/Digweeds (though hopefully with).

One last thing, the crowd was much younger than I thought. I had visions of a 35+ gig. And while I don't give a damn about ages, was great to see so many people getting into the two old guys.

Nice review @mr_why and it backs up really my thoughts on the place

Though I personally didn't really like S&D that night I thought the lightening and the dancers were excellent and the best I have seen personally.

It needs a social push for popularity which they thought probably wouldn't be needed with those names on paper BUT this isn't such a bad thing because it gives you plenty of breathing space to dance or get about

Everyone was certainly there to dance when I was there

BUT maybe I was a little over cooked but I felt it lacked that little something when I was there it was an odd night really it didn't feel like a close friendly community and I also felt the 6 or so bouncers plonked along the front of the stage and to the sides of the stage staring at everyone sort of put you on edge

Think feeling on 'edge' may be the substances talking! If you was sober or on just on the booze I'm sure you wouldn't have even noticed bouncers!

Tuesday night was superb.
Arrived early doors, around 11.30 & lasted until around 6.30.
Matador, B-Traits b2b with Anna, Nicole Moudaber b2b with Calderone were all brilliant & S&D destroyed the place to finish with.
It was my first visit to Privilege since 2011 & it definitely felt a lot smaller than I remembered. The sound system was unbelievable & the light show was top class. Seeing Privilege back to its best was
Also pleasantly surprised at the drinks prices. €6 for water & €9 for a beer is pretty decent going by Ibiza prices. I will be back for round two next week.

Noticed they had jacked up the drink prices last night. Vodka + mixer was 16 and water was 9! Got in at 12:55 for 20 euros so saved a bit on the entrance but wasn't expecting Amnesia drinks prices.

Thanks the annoying thing about the clubs they, change the drink prices whenever they want!

Yeah man, their sound together is different, I heard no Sasha melodic influence at all when I saw them in Toronto. It was really offputting because it's not what you expect, but it is good music and that's all that matters. You just wouldn't know it was Sasha and Digweed playing if you heard it without seeing who's playing.

Yeah I went last Tuesday and beers were 11. All weeks before I read they were 9. Didn't matter to much tho. Unreal Night

yeah it was 9 EUR in July. I'm thinking they increased it in Aug. and stuck with it till Sept, but maybe someone else can confirm.

Super jelly you guys got to experience Priv with S&D and with that setup! It looks way better than Pure Cox. Hopefully this night returns next year with the main boys, but I think it will just be Resistance with random artists, but who the heck knows what will happen.

For me this was the best event we went to, music wise and vibe. People were def there to dance and that's all I saw on the main room dance floor, even more so on Tuesday just past (we went the previous Tuesday too). As a previous post commented this event def has the ability to build on this year and establish itself as the islands top event.

Pleased you had a good time. Sounds a great night and I'm v envious! Enjoyed your review on mosaic too. I missed this on my trip as I had to take my wife to prydz and to miss it was a huge disappointment. When you say full on techno onslaught what do you mean? I find diggers on his own bores the pants off me in housey, going nowhere kind of way. Conversely I like Sasha and his progressive build ups, regardless of style.

Reality is S+D have both evolved over time. Sasha started with house, then prog house, then prog trance and then in to a no mans land of music that went nowhere. He came back with house and his current sound is v techno as his two releases in August testify to. Interested to know if this is the style he now plays across his sets - quite tight, tough, hypnotic and driving.

Diggers has always been about prog and house imo. He went through a prog trance period in the late 90s like Sasha. I've heard him in short set format in Ibiza last year and the year before and frankly found him to be trotting out house that went absolutely nowhere. Again, interested to know what he's like in the long format
