Police Presence increases?

Once Class A in legalised im going to invent a machine that goes in the toilets of clubs (like Tampax/condom machines)... you put in you money then select your substance. Genius!! :D

Stephen,

You balst us on here for not liking 'other' aspects of Ibiza but then you show a completely closed minded view of clubbing.

Ok, it may not be to your taste, but it is to millions of people around the world.

could you not detect my humorous interpretation? i was poking fun at myself as well as you hip young cruisers. before you were born fergster i too thought i was cool because we wore different clothes, listened to different music and took different substances (though i never did) than normal people.

now, having been there, done that and even worn the t-shirt i wouldn't dream of appearing in a nosiy sweaty club full of odd looking young people - and neither will you when you're in your mid fifties! enjoy it now and then laugh about it when you get older.

perhaps it would be pertinent to mention again that the moroccans who blew themselves and several guardia civil to pieces in madrid were involved in the supply of drugs in ibiza to raise funds for their terrorist activities.

Morrocans are known to supply hashish. The more lucrative drugs are in the hands of more powerful maffias.

Christ, you're only in your mid fifties! It doesn't make you that much of a dinosaur! 8O:lol:

i'm sure the guys in green would bear that in mind when they went out clubbing guardia style.

ps the guardia confiscated 2.4 tonnes of cocaine this weekend as it was heading for san antonio by boat

my 8O factor was equal to yours when i discovered that you were in your mid 20's :D

I'm actually in my late 20s with a six year mortgage, nice job and stable relationship thankyouverymuch...;)

I wasn't saying I thought you were older, I was saying that I don't consider mid 50s to be old...or maybe I'm alone on this one?

i don't consider mid 50's to be old either. i have many interests and have lots of fun but in different ways to what i did 30 years ago.

There is always a big police presence outside of DC10 - I worked in IBIZA all last summer and pretty much every week there are undercover and plain clothes police searching people - I would advise maximum caution there. In my experience the police alos put out a biug presence at Space, especially the opening and closing parties - but it is mainly for show and they will all disappear after a few hours.

And guys, relax, we are not putting the worlds to right here, just trying to prevent our friend who posted the comments having his collar felt....

Drugs are illegal so if you do them you've got to be prepared to take whatever comeuppence comes your way. You've also got to be prepared to mix occasionally with the type of people you wouldn't ask to look after your pet rabbit, both police and criminals. If that puts you off don't do it.

Terrorists do profit from some drug dealing, if that makes you uncomfortable, tough.

If the heavy handedness of the cops puts you off, then that's probably why they do it.

If you go clubbing In Ibiza you run a risk, usually very small, of coming a cropper with the cops even if you're drug free, but again you weigh the pros and cons and it's up to you.

Stephen has practically admitted that he can't relate to many of the people on this board and it's obvious that he holds much of what they do in ibiza in contempt. Particularly clubbing. He's a 50 yr old teacher who lives on the island. What do you expect, after parties at his house?

If anyone wants to legalise drugs do something about it, but it 15 years when your kids are too stoned to get off their arse and find a job, don't blame anyone else. Try banning ciggies first, then I might be able to eventually pack in.

For fcks sake.......stop your ball aching at everything. It's not like none one has a choice.

without wishing to start a richard and judy book club here, if anyone is interested in the pro/against legalisation debate (and there seem to be a lot of eloquent people here who are) Ben Eltons book high society is piss funny but also sets out in its own way a number of arguments for the legalisation of everything. i reccomend a read!

i take your point, i was just trying to see through the local governments eyes. They've had very bad press of late over the shootings, drugs and what not, so they must have sat down and said let's be seen doing something...just a shame that they are doing it to the wrong people and excessively.

Drugs are not allowed in spain, so I can't see why it would be wrong to go after someone carrying an illegal substance

It's quite lazy going after the small fish, but then again it's all drug related arrests, and it's statistics and figure's that matter to police forces these days...unfortunately

Police caught yesterday 2.000 kg of coke in Ibiza, so maybe they are not that lazy

 Seriously, I was just wondering if there were a lot more searches going on this year... didn't intend for it to become this big right vs. wrong thing. I know it's wrong, but I do it anyway... and why? Because it's fun.:)

From the sound of things, it's the same as every year, so thanks!

Because it's a complete waste of resources plus excessive searches violates a commonly accepted human right - not to be stopped and harassed when one is going about one's business.

Huge amounts of the valuable time and money is spent by the police and the judicial system chasing and locking people for getting high, and less often those who deal.

It's like when homosexuality was illegal and people got busted for sucking cocks, having anal sex and other sexual practices. How ridiculous does that seem?

Prohibition is bad law. Will the "mayor alijo de Balears" (the biggest coke bust in the Balearics according to local paper Ultima Hora) make much difference?

I doubt it.

:( :(

I read it. Elton pussied out, IMO.

He sets out a (broadly-speaking) plausible scenario where the government of the United Kingdom seriously considers ending prohibtion, then it all goes tits up for the protagonist and they don't.

How depressing.

:( :(

The current system is ridiculous. Class A = recreationally effective - it's not a measure of the potential negative impact of a drug. Like anti-gay laws, the legislation is based on out-moded morals.

And I don't believe a legalisation and regulation policy would be political suicide. In fact it's tailor made for the conservatives because it would reduce the size of the government and promote law and order.

Don't bother with High Society. If you want a clear-headed analysis of the situation read the Economist - they've been propounding legalisation for years.

And the arrest of an English drug lord on the run for 10-12 years!

I certainly thought there was a stronger police presence this year.

Having never been searched going into a club in Ibiza before (I don't take a bag with me), we got stopped going into WLS at 10am. The policeman was pretty rude and looked down my boyfriend's shorts. No female police there so I just had to open my pockets - thankfully. I heard that if you only had a small amount on you, they just take it off you and give you a warning. Even though we had nothing on us, we did feel a bit shaken by the event and ended up deciding not to bother with Space (we'd been out the past two nights, so it was probably for the best!)

They were also randomly stopping people outside Bora Bora.

yeah sorry, reading back I realise I shouldnt have used that 'lazy' phrase in an international forum. I didn't mean it to sound the way it was perceived, as if they couldn't be bothered. I was trying to push the idea they should be targeting the more important dealers, instead of going for the easier option of stop and searches.

Anyways, in the 7yrs I've been to Ibiza, I havent touched a single drug...so I'll shut up now, prob wasn't best placed to enter this conversation in the first place :)

Live with it

At the end of the day it's their country....if they don't want illegal substances in their country they have every right to stop and search anyone they see fit to.

So for foreign nationals heading for Ibiza....if you don't like their drug laws or their methods of policing....don't go!

All this rubbish about invasion of civil liberties....IT"S THEIR COUNTRY!

Civil Liberties....my arse
