Losing that beer belly in time for Ibiza

HIIT is working wonders for me at the moment although people seem to get p*ssed off when i press for running speed as it sounds like a plane taking off.

I can stick to this no problems I quite like it but im not totally anal about it if im out and about and the only thing to have isnt so healthy im not gona beat myself up about it

Perfect attitude to have, i tend to stick to my routine through the week knowing that when fri / sat comes i've done enough to allow me to have what i want and not be bothered about it.

yeah ive been getting the odd look like 'why's he trying to show off running fast' sorta thing. You do look really stupid cos the machine gets really loud u start running fast then after a minute or so you go back to a jog , people think your just being a knob trying to run too fast and cant keep it up!

I saw one girl who hadnt quite grasped the concept. she was running fairly fast but evey 2 mins she would step completely off the treadmill , get her breath then have to do an elaborate manouver to get back on the fast moving bit . seemed to be missing the point somewhat

Being a regular sportsman - make that rubbish sportsman, but regular, throughout my adulthood I've never been under 10s 6 or over 10st 10.

Until now. A knee injury has stopped me playing both hockey and volleyball, and what, with hanging around, I was just over 11 stone last week and growing. So as the calories aren't being burned, I've cut my food and booze intake by half, and now I'm an ounce back under 11 stone, and the 35" waist is now back to just over 34.

Basically I'm not over bothered about weight, but when you're sporty carrying around extra pounds is like carrying round sandbags, cuts down your speed, makes you more tired earlier, and adds pressure to old injuries you were carrying.

Can't wait for my knee to get better (*hopes it's not permanent*) so I can get back on to the pitch and start missing sitters, mistiming tackles and putting passes into the fencing again. Oh, and to have a nice juicy meat-and-potato pie and wash it down with a pint of Wyre Widdle.

I feel your pain. Did my shoulder two weeks ago and have been told to rest it for another two weeks. I train in boxing and MMA and there isn't much that doesn't involve your shoulder one way or another. And I HATE running.

Yeah, I can't run unless there's something to run for - it's boring! If you're chasing a ball around you don't feel tired, but if I ran the same distance on the road I wouldn't get half as far. Hope your shoulder makes a full recovery - but keep an eye on it for damage that might not be spotted now but comes back in later life!

After training for 20 years (I am 35) it is my first muscular injury and it is doing my head in. I have had a few broken bones (cheekbone the nastiest) but I could still train around those. Just paranoid now that once I train again it is going to aggravate it, supposed to be fighting in September and it is getting close.

I am meant to be resting it another four weeks, not two. Not good.

Try really slow reps of about 10 seconds on the positive and 10 on the negative on exercises that you suspect may aggravate it. Keep the reps below 10. You will need to use smaller weights than you would usually use. Breathe with short breaths at about one breath per second. As soon as you feel some discomfort in a rep you can pull back and try a slightly different angle or exercise.

Can I suggest swimming as your body will be giving effort but will also be supported at the same time - and it's easy to stop if there's any pain?

Thanks for the advice. I am off to Egypt for a couple of weeks so some swimming will be on the cards. When I get back I should have about 10 weeks to get fight-fit (and work off the all-inclusive food and drinks from the gut!).

Hows everyone going with this?

I'm now running 4 times a week (45mins each time). I'm trying to shift another half a stone before I go!

3 weeks on sat!!

I've been on hol for 2 weeks but managed to pack in some swimming and some early morning runs before it got ridiculously hot.

Looking forward to getting back to the gym tonight!

got myself a set of decent digital scales that also measures body fat and all sorts of things. did a 9.5km run this morning and been doing sprints at the gym on the treadmill.

my brother pointed me in the direction of this workout thing called 'P90X' . its basically an extreme 90 day schedule that has serious results. A mate of his did it and it changed his life (he wouldnt have believed him if it wasnt a friend). Anyways the whole programme is downloadable if you know where to look.Im not doing it properly as it requires a few bits and pieces which i havnt got the money for right now. I did the Ab workout on friday and been in pain for 3 days so it must be working!

How's everyone doing with this....i finally went back to the gym properly after nearly 3 weeks off.
HIIT seems to be as good as ever doing 30 mins of 1min/12kph to 2mins/17kph.
Time to hit it hard before Ibz in September

Back in training after 6 weeks after and now weigh 11st 11lb. The plan was to fight on September 11th at 10st 5lb and that is looking pretty unlikely at the moment.

I'm doing cardio 5 days a week now (running, rowing, cycling). I've changed my diet a bit. I'm eating bigger portions now as I felt like I didnt have enough energy.
Breakfast: Special K
Snack: 2 bananas
Lunch: Large salad with mackerel
Snack: 2 Apples
Dinner: lots of veg and chicken/fish
Plus the 2-3 litres of water I drink to.

I go to Ibiza on 16th July, then im off to Cuba on 15th Ceptember. My beer belly has pretty much gone! :D. I also used to be a 36 waist, I'm now 32 or even 30 depending on the brand.
