Trance was massive in Ibiza before, during and after it went overground. The island had dedicated trance and or prog house nights from the mid 90s onwards. From the late mid 90s and for a good 5-6 years, there were multiple trance nights on the island every day to choose from. It was huge. But it was huge everywhere. I can’t think of a genre that was there, exploded in popularity and fell off a cliff like trance and prog house did.Someone who visited Ibiza in the 90s probably remembers when trance was the hottest thing? I've never been in the trance scene, but somehow I've understood that it was a big deal in Ibiza, like 2-3 seasons in the late 90s. Or am I completely lost with my understanding?![]()

You maybe right to an extent. Shine is a weekly event though. I think trance week was a response to the scene shrinking.I think trance week kinda killed trance in ibiza from the crowd being spread out over a season to every fan coming for a week in september. I know in northern ireland trance is massive still with club nights and events regularly. Strange how not bigger in ibiza as others have said european and american festivals seem to be massive
There has always been genre morphing.I think people get too hung up on rigid genres though that no longer really exist. they just evolve with new DJ tools and production tech. To my ears, 'prog' as it was just evolved into what they now call 'melodic'. What's the actual difference? It's the same functional bigroom formula that works and not meant to be analysed any more than the air conditioning. It serves a purpose. There's no artistry nor does it pretend o'wise. Romantics like me still cling to this idea that dance music is an art because that's what we grew up with: seminal records people talk about for years after but that died that moment every man and his dog decided to have a go. The thing is anyone on garageband can knock up something in minutes with a load of pads that cross all sorts of 'genres'. In the past you had these clear distinctions because different people were using different synths or drum machines aiming for different tempos, audiences, energy levels, creating distinct scenes for local crowds. But the software means anything can now be made anywhere incorporating anything, so urban kids will hear 4/4 next to rnb or vice versa, familiar vocals. Enter the Yanks. Or Guetta. At some point all this music will just weld into one because the bottom line is nobody gives a fk anymore provided there's somewhere to get battered in the sun. And as for trance, we're all too old. Who has the energy for er Energy 52 now. Seriously?
Cant get enough of his new sets last couple years. Selador and ajuna excellent stuff at the minuteYes I personally think that Anthony Pappa is on the rise
Arrive on the Monday for a week, looking forward to it.The first one was utterly insane...part 2 is already looking much bigger! Who's in?

Yeah i think that Retro week looks to have been cancelled, as you can't seem to be able to buy tickets for the event anymore ?I’ll be there with a gang.
Looks like the terrace line up has changed. Originally it was a Retro party with Blocko and Paul Taylor……wonder why???
Yes! I used to enjoy those, although when Hed Kandi would put local things on I’d give them the swerveWondering if the room with Ben Santiago and Lovely Laura will be some sort of old school Hed Kandi vibe.
Not very Kevin and Perry I know but I'll confess I did used to love a Saturday at Es Paradis when I first went to Ibiza![]()
